The filter technique was applied to noise images, as noise is the significant factor that cause poor image quality due to lower photon counting. The purpose of this study is to confirm that image quality can be improved using the median modified Wiener filter (MMWF) technique; this is achieved via a National Electrical Manufacturers Association International Electrotechnical Commission body phantom with four large spheres that are filled with the 99mTc radioisotope when evaluating the image quality. Conventional filters such as Wiener, Gaussian, and median filters were designed, and signal to noise ratio, coefficient of variation, and contrast to noise ratio were used as the evaluation parameters. The improvement in the image quality was in the following order, from the least to the highest improvement, in all cases: Wiener filter, Gaussian filter, median filter, and the MMWF technique. The results show that the image quality was improved from 20.6 to 65.5%, 7.4-40.3%, and 12.7-44.7% for the SNR, COV, and CNR values, respectively, when using the MMWF technique, compared with the use of conventional filters. In conclusion, our results demonstrated that the MMWF technique is useful for reducing the noise distribution in gamma camera images.

In this study, we analyzed the sharpness of UAV-images using the gradient formula and produced a MATLAB GUI (Graphical User Interface)-based sharpness analysis tool for easy use. In order to verify the reliability of the proposed sharpness analysis method, sharpness values of the UAV-images measured by the proposed method were compared with those by measured the commercial software Metashape of the Agisoft. As a result of measuring the sharpness with both tools on 10 UAV-images, sharpness values themselves were different from each other for the same image. However, there was constant bias of 011 ~ 0.20 between two results, and then the same sharpness was obtained by eliminating this bias. This fact proved the reliability of the proposed sharpness analysis method in this study. In addition, in order to verify the practicality of the proposed sharpness analysis method, unsharp images were classified as low quality ones, and the quality of orthoimages was compared each other, which were generated included low quality images and excluded them. As a result, the quality of orthoimage including low quality images could not be analyzed due to blurring of the resolution target. However, the GSD (Ground Sample Distance) of orthoimage excluding low quality images was 3.2cm with a Bar target and 4.0cm with a Siemens star thanks to the clear resolution targets. It therefore demonstrates the practicality of the proposed sharpness analysis method in this study.

Objective: To compare the quality of various polychromatic and monochromatic images with or without using an iterative metal artifact reduction algorithm (iMAR) obtained from a dual-energy computed tomography (CT) to evaluate total knee arthroplasty. Materials and Methods: We included 58 patients (28 male and 30 female; mean age [range], 71.4 [61-83] years) who underwent 74 knee examinations after total knee arthroplasty using dual-energy CT. CT image sets consisted of polychromatic image sets that linearly blended 80 kVp and tin-filtered 140 kVp using weighting factors of 0.4, 0, and -0.3, and monochromatic images at 130, 150, 170, and 190 keV. These image sets were obtained with and without applying iMAR, creating a total of 14 image sets. Two readers qualitatively ranked the image quality (1 [lowest quality] through 14 [highest quality]). Volumes of high- and low-density artifacts and contrast-to-noise ratios (CNRs) between the bone and fat tissue were quantitatively measured in a subset of 25 knees unaffected by metal artifacts. Results: iMAR-applied, polychromatic images using weighting factors of -0.3 and 0.0 (P-0.3i and P0.0i, respectively) showed the highest image-quality rank scores (median of 14 for both by one reader and 13 and 14, respectively, by the other reader; p < 0.001). All iMAR-applied image series showed higher rank scores than the iMAR-unapplied ones. The smallest volumes of low-density artifacts were found in P-0.3i, P0.0i, and iMAR-applied monochromatic images at 130 keV. The smallest volumes of high-density artifacts were noted in P-0.3i. The CNRs were best in polychromatic images using a weighting factor of 0.4 with or without iMAR application, followed by polychromatic images using a weighting factor of 0.0 with or without iMAR application. Conclusion: Polychromatic images combined with iMAR application, P-0.3i and P0.0i, provided better image qualities and substantial metal artifact reduction compared with other image sets.
The objectives of this study are to develope sensibility image scales for Korean traditional motifs by quantitatively measuring their images and preference and to classify them into clusters. Data were collected via a questionnaire from seven hundred twenty five Korean undergraduate students. Re experimental materials were forty eight stimuli of Korean traditional motifs with different categories, interpretation types, composition types, and application objects. The instruments consisted of 7-point polar semantic differential scales of twenty three bipolar adjectives including preference. Data were analyzed by correspondence analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test. Re major results are as follows; image scales for textile patterns and dress designs using Korean traditional motifs were constructed. The axes of sensibility image scales for both textile patterns and dress designs were defined by quality level and degree of simplicity. Second, four clusters on the scale of textile patterns and two clusters on the scale dress designs were identified. Third, in the case of textile Patterns, the preferred cluster had high-quality and classical images, while the cluster that was not preferred had a complex image. In the case of dress designs, the preferred cluster had simple and high-quality images, while the cluster that was not preferred had complex and low-quality images.
Underwater color images suffer from low visibility and color cast effects caused by light attenuation by water and floating particles. This study applied single image enhancement techniques to enhance the quality of underwater images and compared their performance with real underwater images taken in Korean waters. Dark channel prior (DCP), gradient transform, image fusion, and generative adversarial networks (GAN), such as cycleGAN and underwater GAN (UGAN), were considered for single image enhancement. Their performance was evaluated in terms of underwater image quality measure, underwater color image quality evaluation, gray-world assumption, and blur metric. The DCP saturated the underwater images to a specific greenish or bluish color tone and reduced the brightness of the background signal. The gradient transform method with two transmission maps were sensitive to the light source and highlighted the region exposed to light. Although image fusion enabled reasonable color correction, the object details were lost due to the last fusion step. CycleGAN corrected overall color tone relatively well but generated artifacts in the background. UGAN showed good visual quality and obtained the highest scores against all figures of merit (FOMs) by compensating for the colors and visibility compared to the other single enhancement methods.
We evaluated the performance of an improved hybrid median filter (IHMF) applied to X-ray computed tomography (CT) images obtained using a high-resolution photon-counting cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) detector. To study how the proposed approach improves the image quality, we measured the noise levels and the overall CT-image quality. We established a CZT imaging system with a detector length of 5.12 cm and thickness of 0.3 cm and acquired phantom images. To evaluate the efficacy of the proposed filter, we first modeled two conventional median filters. Subsequently, we were able to achieve a normalized noise power spectrum result of ~10-8 mm2, and furthermore, the proposed method improved the contrast-to-noise ratio by a factor of ~1.51 and the coefficient of variation by 1.55 relative to the counterpart values of the no-filter image. In addition, the IHMF exhibited the best performance among the three filters considered as regards the peak signal-to-noise ratio and no-reference-based image-quality evaluation parameters. Thus, our results demonstrate that the IHMF approach provides a superior image performance over conventional median filtering methods when applied to actual CZT X-ray CT images.

In order to obtain practical and high-quality satellite images containing high-frequency components, a large aperture optical system is required, which has a limitation in that it greatly increases the payload weight. As an attempt to overcome the problem, many multi-aperture optical systems have been proposed, but in many cases, these optical systems do not include high-frequency components in all directions, and making such an high-quality image is an ill-posed problem. In this paper, we use deep learning to overcome the limitation. A deep learning model receives low-quality images as input, estimates the Point Spread Function, PSF, and combines them to output a single high-quality image. We model images obtained from three rectangular apertures arranged in a regular polygon shape. We also propose the Modulation Transfer Function Loss, MTF Loss, which can capture the high-frequency components of the images. We present qualitative and quantitative results obtained through experiments.
As a basic research for the development of the automatic grading and sorting system for dried oak mushrooms, the device to acquire both cap and gill side images of mushroom has been developed and neural network based side recognition and quality grading has been proposed via inputting both side images. 20 quality grades have been selected considering the requirement of grade classifications imposed by the mushroom company. Developed DC motor driven‘V’type reversing device for the image acquisition of both side images of mushroom showed more than 95% success. Most error was caused by very small size mushrooms with a radius of around 1cm. However, it required a further research to reduce the reversing time. Grading and side recognition were performed via inputting normalized size factors and average gray levels of $8{\times}8$ grids converted from the raw images of both surfaces to the multi-layer back propagation(BP) network. Accuracy of the grading showed about 88.5% and the total grading time including reversing operation was around 2 seconds.

JPEG is good for full color representation but is poor in quality of image because of the small size and the losing compression ways. GIF is a kind of format style made for image - transmission in Compuserve which is a method of PC communication in U. S. A and now is used in world wide web owing to the efficiency of file compression and transmission. But GIF only is used 256 colors, so the images in web has a poorer quality of colors effect to be compared with those of printed catalogues. Also there can be licence problems when the images is used for commercial uses because the possession is Compuserve. The PNG is a way that the total advantages of JPEG and GIF. PNG image file is a more skillful (bitmap display unit), shows a high quality image like TIFF image about, gives superior compression , a 10% to 30% represents full color, 256 color, gray like JPEG. GIF file which uses LZW compression file is a thing which pays licence, In other hands, PNG is free from licence and more skillful image processing method against image error, and it is possible to conserve the color information. Therefore, this treatise is about how various images which are utilized for commercial printings in web, can be made into PNG files about the compression file. And the representation of image by compared the G]U images with JPEG images as well as compression file and the representation of image the superiority of color representation. In addition, 1 check out how much ranges the PNG files are available for electronic publish printing.

The objective of this study was to investigate images of Korean traditional patterns. The subjects consisted of 369 male and 356 female undergraduate students. The experimental materials used in this study were 48 stimuli and questionnaires, composed of 7-point semantic differential scales of 23 bipolar adjectives. Twelve motifs selected from 3 groups of Korean patterns were used as motif stimuli. Twelve repeated patterns were constructed from them to be applied on a CAD-simulated dress. The data was analyzed by factor analysis, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test. The major findings were as follows: 1. Four dimensions were emerged accounting for the dimensional structure of the images of Korean traditional patterns. These dimensions were 'simplicity', 'quality', 'interest', and 'modernity' dimension. Among them, 'simplicity' and 'quality' were the major dimensions. 2. Category, interpretation type, composition type, and application object of motif had significant effects on the images of above-mentioned dimensions. The application object had a significant effect on 'simplicity' and 'modernity' image, and the composition type on 'quality' and 'interest' image.
