Digital Image Quality Assessment Based on Standard Normal Deviation

  • We propose a new method that specifies objective image quality factors by evaluating an image quality measurement model using random images. In other words, No-Reference variables are used to evaluate the quality of an original image without using any reference for comparison. 1000 portrait images were collected from a web gallery with votes constituting over 30 recommendation values. The bottom-up data collecting process was used to calculate the following image quality factors: total range, average, standard deviation, normalized distribution, z-score, preference percentage. A final grade is awarded out of 100 points, and this method ranks and grades the final estimated image quality preference in terms of total image quality factors. The results of the proposed image quality evaluation model consist of the specific dynamic range, skin tone R, G, B, L, A, B, and RSC contrast. We can present the total for the expected preference points as the average of the objective image qualities. Our proposed image quality evaluation model can measure the preferences for an actual image using a statistical analysis. The results indicate that this is a practical image quality measurement model that can extract a subject's preferred image quality.

기술적인 화질 지표 조절양 최적화를 통한 감성 화질 향상 방안 (Methodologies to Improve Emotional Image Qualities by Optimizing Technological Image Quality Metrics)

  • 다양한 이미지 샘플의 Eye test를 바탕으로 기술적인 화질 지표 조절을 통하여 감성 화질을 최적화 시키는 방법이 소개된다. 여러 가지 이미지 콘텐츠의 다양한 이미지에 대하여, 콘트라스트, 명도, 채도 화질 지표 톤 커브를 사용하여 평가가 수행 되었다. 이미지 화질 향상에 기여하는 우선순위는 명암, 채도 및 밝기 순으로 분석 되었다. 이미지 감성 화질 측정치의 기술적인 화질 지표 변화에 따른 기울기의 공통점을 살펴본 결과, 거의 0, 중간 그리고 최대 기울기의 영역으로 구성된 함수 형태로 모델링을 할 경우, 기존의 역 U 형태의 성질 뿐 아니라 log 또는 포화 형태의 감성 화질 변화까지 분석 가능함을 알 수 있었다. 단일 및 복수의 화질 지표의 경우에 대하여도 화질 개선 방안이 모색되었으며, 기존 및 본 논문에서 분석된 결과를 위한 새로운 함수가 소개 되었다. 복수의 통합적 이미지 화질 지표를 통하여 향상 시킬 경우 오직 몇몇 한정된 지표 제어의 경우에만 실현 가능하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 화질 향상 방법은 영상 콘텐츠에 따라 크게 차이가 없음을 알 수 있었다.

  • This paper deals with image quality analysis considering the impact of psychological factors involved in assessment. The attributes of image quality requirement were partitioned according to the visual perception characteristics and the preference of image quality were obtained by the factor analysis method. The features of image quality which support the subjective preference were identified, The adequacy of image is evidenced to be the top requirement issues to the display image quality improvement.

Evaluation of Image Quality of Inkjet Printing on the Spun Polyester Fabrics

  • This paper addresses the factors hindering the image quality of lines in inkjet printed on polyester fabric as printing media. Lines were printed onto different types of polyester fabrics in warp and filling directions. Line image quality including line width, edge blurriness, and edge raggedness was assessed. The effect of capillary wicking on line image quality of printed spun polyester fabric is discussed. The factors on the image quality include printing position(top of the yam or between the yarn), printing direction(warp or filling), yarn structures(filament or spun), thread size(yam or fiber), finishing, and ink properties(evaporation rate). More than 30% differences in image quality results were observed by changing the printing location on the spun polyester fabric. The best results of the image quality were obtained with the printed plain and spun polyester fabrics. The fiber sizes may affect capillary size; therefore, the image quality can be dissimilar. Types of finishing materials and inks greatly improve the line image quality on spun polyester fabrics.

  • A novel quantified method based on requirement analysis of image quality to improve display image quality was proposed. Nowadays, the image quality was limited by the poor understanding of the image quality requirement, which led to the critical factors of image quality could not be controlled during display development. Our method was set up to resolve this problem by clarifying the relationship between the image quality level and the effect factors in image processing. Moreover, the subjective factors were eliminated extremely by the image quality quantification. The method was applied in the RPTV development life cycle and its efficiency was demonstrated.

Effects of Dessert Café Environmental Characteristics on Overall Quality, Brand Image and Loyalty

  • Purpose: Along with the trend increasing dining-out and enjoying variety of menu, dessert café has been introduced as a new type of food service provider and grown up rapidly. We need to verify structural relationship that dessert café environment influences overall quality and brand image and loyalty. Research design, data, and methodology: This study seeks to understand how in-café environment influence overall quality, brand image and loyalty directly and indirectly based on SOR theory. We examine detail effect of in-café environment on overall quality and brand image and subsequently loyalty. Sample data were collected from 563 online survey panels and analyzed by using SmartPLS 3.2.9. Result: The results indicates that all sub-dimensions of in-café environment influences positively overall quality. While, menu and atmosphere make positive impact on brand image. price, food and beverage quality, employee service do not affect significantly brand image. Further, overall quality influences positively brand image and both overall quality and brand image affect positively loyalty. In addition, overall quality plays full mediator role in relationship among price, food and beverage quality, employee service and brand image. Conclusions: Dessert café should differentiate itself from competitors through physical and non-physical environments which are likely to influence overall quality. As overall quality mediates between environment and brand image and influences loyalty, dessert café is required to communicate strength of functional quality and service quality aggressively. Additionally, favorable brand image affecting loyalty is required to be dominated in advance as the market is likely to be segmented along with its growth.

지향적 삶의 질 유형에 따른 패션이미지 관계성 연구 (A Study on the Relation of Fashion Image to the Types of Orientated Quality of Life)

  • This study aimed to investigate the relationship between oriented quality of life and fashion image with a focus on their futures. The results of this study are as follows. First, oriented quality of life was sampled as six factors such as information preference, job preference, self-preference, leisure preference, health preference, and self-defense preference, whereas an oriented fashion image was drawn as three factors such as urban image, individual image, and feminine image. Second, the self-defense preference had a significant effect on modern image and individual image as in Photo 1, while leisure preference and self-defense preference exerted a significant influence on feminine image in Photo 2. In Photo 3, leisure preference and self-defense preference affected urban image significantly, and health preference and self-defense preference respectively influenced individual image and feminine image. Third, as a result of investigating the difference between oriented quality of life and the sub-element of oriented fashion image according to the type of oriented quality of life, six groups of oriented quality of life (self-preference, job preference, self-defense preference, information preference, leisure preference, and health preference group) displayed significant differences only in individual image as presented in Photo 2. Fourth, in consequence of examining differences in the factor of an oriented fashion image according to the type oriented quality of life, six groups according to the type of oriented quality of life presented significant differences in the individual, splendor, elegant, refined, youthful, feminine, and modern image among the factor of oriented fashion image.

A Study on Linking Korean Wave and Corporate Image on Country Image, Perceived Quality: A Study of China

  • This study examines the linkage between Korean wave, corporate image and country image, perceived quality of products made in the country. To close a gap lacking empirical studies on impacts of corporate image to country image and to further understand impacts of Korean wave, this study conducts survey over Chinese consumers to test the effects of corporate image, Korean wave to the country image, and verify on its effects to perceived quality of the products made in the country. The results show that both corporate image and Korean wave influences to form positive country image of Korea, and perceived quality of Korean made products. The size of effects varies upon products type and stimuli. This study could provide policy makers insights how to promote country image as well as support SMEs for developing overseas markets. Also, it could give marketers valuable implications to develop effective global marketing strategies using cultural assets, country image and salient corporate image.

객관적인 화질 평가 방법에 관한 연구 : 동적 폭, 노이즈, 해상도, 색재현성, 선호도 (Objective Image Quality Measurement Model : Focus on Dynamic Range, Noise, Resolution, Color Reproduction, and Preference)

  • 본 연구는 객관적인 화질 평가 요소들과 선호도를 기반으로 한 주관적 화질 평가 모형을 구축하여 감상자들의 화질에 대한 선호도를 객관적 요소들로 분석할 수 있도록 하였다. 즉 제조사들이 이해하기 쉬운 객관적 화질 평가 요소들을 선정하고, 이와 같은 요소들을 질문하는 문항을 기반으로 하여 사진의 품질을 평가하는 방식으로 주관적 화질 평가 모형을 구축하였다. 또한 화질 평가에 사용되는 실제 사진을 일반인들이 주로 촬영하는 장면인 인물사진으로 선택하여 실험결과의 일반화와 타당성을 추구하였다. 본 실험의 주관적 화질 평가 모형을 통하여 감상자들이 선호하는 화질을 평가하고 그 결과가 최종적인 사진의 선호도에 어떠한 상관관계를 갖으며 영향을 미치는지 분석하였다. 이와 같은 상관관계 분석을 통하여 감상자가 선호하는 화질에 대해 파악하고 화질을 향상시키는 요소를 분석할 수 있었다. 그 결과 선호도와 가장 상관관계가 높은 변수는 색재현력, 다이내믹 레인지, 노이즈, 해상도 순이었으며, 인물 사진 자극의 특성상 색재현력과 선호도가 가장 높은 수준의 상관관계를 보였다. 이러한 결과는 단순 수치화된 객관적 화질 평가 요소들을 언어로 확장시켜, 선호도에 기반을 둔 주관적 화질 평가 모형을 제시함으로써 일반 사용자와 제조사 모두가 쉽게 이해할 수 있는 새로운 방식의 접근이라고 할 수 있다.

  • The fingerprint image quality relies on the clearness of separated ridges by valleys and the uniformity of the separation. The condition of skin still dominate the overall quality of the fingerprint. However, the identification performance of such system is very sensitive to the quality of the captured fingerprint image. Fingerprint image quality analysis and enhancement are useful in improving the performance of fingerprint identification systems. A fuzzy technique is introduced in this paper for both fingerprint image quality analysis and enhancement. First, the quality analysis is performed by extracting four features from a fingerprint image which are the local clarity score (LCS), global clarity score (GCS), ridge_valley thickness ratio (RVTR), and the Global Contrast Factor (GCF). A fuzzy logic technique that uses Mamdani fuzzy rule model is designed. The fuzzy inference system is able to analyse and determinate the fingerprint image type (oily, dry or neutral) based on the extracted feature values and the fuzzy inference rules. The percentages of the test fuzzy inference system for each type is as follow: For dry fingerprint the percentage is 81.33, for oily the percentage is 54.75, and for neutral the percentage is 68.48. Secondly, a fuzzy morphology is applied to enhance the dry and oily fingerprint images. The fuzzy morphology method improves the quality of a fingerprint image, thus improving the performance of the fingerprint identification system significantly. All experimental work which was done for both quality analysis and image enhancement was done using the DB_ITS_2009 database which is a private database collected by the department of electrical engineering, institute of technology Sepuluh Nopember Surabaya, Indonesia. The performance evaluation was done using the Feature Similarity index (FSIM). Where the FSIM is an image quality assessment (IQA) metric, which uses computational models to measure the image quality consistently with subjective evaluations. The new proposed system outperformed the classical system by 900% for the dry fingerprint images and 14% for the oily fingerprint images.
