The objective of this paper is performance analysis of the digital document image decimation algorithm which generates a value of decimated element by an average of a target pixel value and a value of neighbor intelligible element to adaptively reflect the merits of ZOD method and FOD method on the decimated image. First, a target pixel located at the center of sliding window is selected, then the gradient amplitudes of its right neighbor pixel and its lower neighbor pixel are calculated using first order derivative operator respectively. Secondly, each gradient amplitude is divided by the summation result of two gradient amplitudes to generate each local intelligible weight. Next, a value of neighbor intelligible element is obtained by adding a value of the right neighbor pixel times its local intelligible weight to a value of the lower neighbor pixel times its intelligible weight. The decimated image can be acquired by applying the process repetitively to all pixels in input image which generates the value of decimated element by calculating the average of the target pixel value and the value of neighbor intelligible element. In this paper, the performance comparison of proposed method and conventional methods in terms of subjective performance and hardware complexity is analyzed and the preferable approach for developing the decimation algorithm of the digital document image on the basis of this analysis result has been reviewed.
Image magnification is the estimation of a few pixel in images with high quality from a pixel of an image with low resolution and there have been studied many techniques to make images with high quality. In this paper, we propose an image interpolation method using median filter and spatial information. The proposed method makes an interpolating pixel using an average value of a median filtered value and an average value of two pixels correlated with an interpolating pixel tightly. Also we make the magnified image with improved quality to add the directional information of surrounding pixels and the characteristic of ones using average value and max value of spatial variation. We evaluate the performance using PSNR in the quality of enlarged image comparing the proposed method with existing methods. The results show the proposed method improves PSNR than the existing methods and make images preserving the characteristic of original imges.
Computed tomography, which obtains section images from reconstruction process using projection images, has been applied to various fields. The spatial resolution of the reconstructed image depends on the device used in CT system, the object, and the reconstruction process. In this paper, we investigates the effect of the number of projection images and the pixel size of the detector on the spatial resolution of the reconstructed image under the parallel beam geometry. The reconstruction program was written in Visual C++, and the matrix size of the reconstructed image was $512{\times}512$. The numerical bar phantom was constructed and the Min-Max method was introduced to evaluate the spatial resolution on the reconstructed image. When the number of projections used in reconstruction process was small, artifact like streak appeared and Min-Max was also low. The Min-Max showed upper saturation when the number of projections is increased. If the pixel size of the detector is reduced to 50% of the pixel size of the reconstructed image, the reconstructed image was perfectly recovered as the original phantom and the Min-Max decreased as increasing the detector pixel size. This study will be useful in determining the detector and the accuracy of rotation stage needed to achieve the spatial resolution required in the CT system.
This study aims to understand the concept of pixel, the most important factor in constituting a digital image, draw the formative characteristics of pixelation image expressed through non-digital media, and develop fashion design reflecting the characteristics. As a research method, the literature review was conducted in the present study by involving domestic and foreign publications, related academic journals, and theses and dissertations on the pixel and pixelation image based on a qualitative research process. In addition, through an analysis of the cases that borrowed pixelation images in non-digital media like contemporary art and design, etc., an attempt was made to draw the formative characteristics of the pixelation image. Apparently, six fashion design looks are presented in the present study. The formative characteristics of the pixelation image include: first, the repeatability that repeats the minimum unit; second, the incompleteness of the shape appearing through the phenomenon of aliasing due to the characteristics of the pixel; and third, the combination that completes the shape through the combination of individual independent pixels. The results of the expression through reflecting them in fashion design are as follows: first, this study chose one small geometric formative element and presented repeatability by repetitively expressing that element in a textile pattern; second, for incompleteness, this study expressed an incomplete form, handling the edge part of the shape with the method of disentangling the strand; and third, the combination by completing a single look through overlapping of independent textiles and the combination of different independent individuals is expressed.
In this paper, a wide dynamic range complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor with the adjustable sensitivity by using cascode metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) and inverter is proposed. The characteristics of the CMOS image sensor were analyzed through experimental results. The proposed active pixel sensor consists of eight transistors operated under various light intensity conditions. The cascode MOSFET is operated as the constant current source. The current generated from the cascode MOSFET varies with the light intensity. The proposed CMOS image sensor has wide dynamic range under the high illumination owing to logarithmic response to the light intensity. In the proposed active pixel sensor, a CMOS inverter is added. The role of the CMOS inverter is to determine either the conventional mode or the wide dynamic range mode. The cascode MOSFET let the current flow the current if the CMOS inverter is turned on. The number of pixels is $140(H){\times}180(V)$ and the CMOS image sensor architecture is composed of a pixel array, multiplexer (MUX), shift registers, and biasing circuits. The sensor was fabricated using $0.35{\mu}m$ 2-poly 4-metal CMOS standard process.
This paper proposes new block fragile watermarking for image authentication and integrity by using the existing pixel-based scheme and block-based scheme. The proposed scheme is performed as fellows. First, we choose LUT(Look Up Table) from each pixel of original image and information of the corresponding block. Next, we insert a watermark, modifying original image with values to compare binary original image with the watermark to be embedded. As a result, we provide the means to overcome some weakness of the existing scheme. Binary logo as watermark can be detected from watermarked image and altered location can also be detected by the unit of pixel or that of block in our scheme.

In this paper, we propose a modified smart pixel mapping (SPM) to visualize occluded three-dimensional (3D) objects in real image fields. In integral imaging, orthoscopic real 3D images cannot be displayed because of lenslets and the converging light field from elemental images. Thus, pseudoscopic-to-orthoscopic conversion which rotates each elemental image by 180 degree, has been proposed so that the orthoscopic virtual 3D image can be displayed. However, the orthoscopic real 3D image cannot be displayed. Hence, a conventional SPM that recaptures elemental images for the orthoscopic real 3D image using virtual pinhole array has been reported. However, it has a critical limitation in that the number of pixels for each elemental image is equal to the number of elemental images. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a modified SPM that can solve this critical limitation in a conventional SPM and can also visualize the occluded objects efficiently.

To detect electrical faults of a TFT (Thin Film Transistor) panel for the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display), techniques of converting electric field to an image are used One of them is the PDLC (polymer-dispersed liquid crystal) modulator which changes light transmittance under electric field. The advantage of PDLC modulator in the electric field detection is that it can be used without physically contacting the TFT panel surface. Specific pattern signals are applied to the data and gate electrodes of the panel to charge the pixel electrodes and the image sensor detects the change of transmittance of PDLC positioned in proximity distance above the pixel electrodes. The image represents the status of electric field reflected on the PDLC so that the characteristic of the PDLC itself plays an important role to accurately quantify the defects of TFT panel. In this paper, the image of the PDLC modulator caused by the change of electric field of the pixel electrodes on the TFT panel is acquired and how the characteristics of PDLC reflect the change of electric field to the image is analyzed. When the holding time of PDLC is short, better contrast of electric field image can be obtained by changing the instance of applying the driving voltage to the PDLC.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has developed a tomographic imaging system for accomplishing the total fuel rod-by-rod verification time of fuel assemblies within the order of 1-2 h, however, there are still limitations for some fuel types. The aim of this study is to develop a deep learning-based denoising process resulting in increasing the tomographic image acquisition speed of fuel assembly compared to the conventional techniques. Convolutional AutoEncoder (CAE) was employed for denoising the low-quality images reconstructed by filtered back-projection (FBP) algorithm. The image data set was constructed by the Monte Carlo method with the FBP and ground truth (GT) images for 511 patterns of missing fuel rods. The de-noising performance of the CAE model was evaluated by comparing the pixel-by-pixel subtracted images between the GT and FBP images and the GT and CAE images; the average differences of the pixel values for the sample image 1, 2, and 3 were 7.7%, 28.0% and 44.7% for the FBP images, and 0.5%, 1.4% and 1.9% for the predicted image, respectively. Even for the FBP images not discriminable the source patterns, the CAE model could successfully estimate the patterns similarly with the GT image.
