다양한 문자열영상의 개별문자분리 및 인식 알고리즘 (Character Segmentation and Recognition Algorithm for Various Text Region Images)

  • Character recognition system consists of four step; text localization, text segmentation, character segmentation, and recognition. The character segmentation is very important and difficult because of noise, illumination, and so on. For high recognition rates of the system, it is necessary to take good performance of character segmentation algorithm. Many algorithms for character segmentation have been developed up to now, and many people have been recently making researches in segmentation of touching or overlapping character. Most of algorithms cannot apply to the text regions of management number marked on the slab in steel image, because the text regions are irregular such as touching character by strong illumination and by trouble of nozzle in marking machine, and loss of character. It is difficult to gain high success rate in various cases. This paper describes a new algorithm of character segmentation to recognize slab management number marked on the slab in the steel image. It is very important that pre-processing step is to convert gray image to binary image without loss of character and touching character. In this binary image, non-touching characters are simply separated by using vertical projection profile. For separating touching characters, after we use combined profile to find candidate points of boundary, decide real character boundary by using method based on recognition. In recognition step, we remove noise of character images, then recognize respective character images. In this paper, the proposed algorithm is effective for character segmentation and recognition of various text regions on the slab in steel image.

캐릭터 디자인과 소비자 반응 (Character Design and Consumer Response)

  • 최근 들어 캐릭터에 대한 중요성이 커지고 있다. 캐릭터는 대표적인 디자인 상품이다. 그러나 아쉽게도 캐릭터 디자인에 대한 연구는 아직까지 충분하지 않다. 본 연구는 기존 제품 디자인에 대한 소비자 반응모형을 토대로 캐릭터 디자인의 구성요소들을 파악하고 구성요소들의 관계를 실증적으로 살펴보았다. 연구결과 캐릭터 디자인의 구성요소들은 캐릭터 외형, 캐릭터 이미지, 캐릭터 애착의 상위 차원과 각각의 하위차원들로 도출되었다. 이러한 결과들은 디자인의 범위가 이성과 감성, 그리고 메시지 측면에서 폭넓게 인식되어져야 한다는 것을 의미한다. 아울러 이들 구성요소들의 관계를 살펴본 결과 캐릭터 외형은 캐릭터 이미지를 유발하며, 캐릭터 이미지는 캐릭터 애착을 유발하고 있었다. 또한 캐릭터 이미지와 애착은 캐릭터에 대한 충성도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 캐릭터 디자인에 대한 소비자들의 반응경로의 이해는 캐릭터 디자인 전략을 수립하는데 좋은 지침이 될 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 이와 같은 연구결과들과 함께 캐릭터 디자인에 관한 이론적·실무적 시사점들이 논의된다.

  • This paper describes a normalization of character which is contained in the character recognition process. Line and dot density is computed on input character image and then image mapping is executed into destination. Also recognition is processed using overlap-partitioning of character image and extraction of 4 directional feature primitives. The validity of proposed nonlinear normalization algorithm could be verified by increment of recognition rate.

License Plate Recognition System Using Artificial Neural Networks

  • A high performance license plate recognition system (LPRS) is proposed in this work. The proposed LPRS is composed of the following three main stages: (i) plate region determination, (ii) character segmentation, and (iii) character recognition. During the plate region determination stage, the image is enhanced by image processing algorithms to increase system performance. The rectangular license plate region is obtained using edge-based image processing methods on the binarized image. With the help of skew correction, the plate region is prepared for the character segmentation stage. Characters are separated from each other using vertical projections on the plate region. Segmented characters are prepared for the character recognition stage by a thinning process. At the character recognition stage, a three-layer feedforward artificial neural network using a backpropagation learning algorithm is constructed and the characters are determined.

  • In order to develop a character recognition system, it is an essential preceding work that gathers an image data of the standard. On this purpose a data of the digitized images of a handwritten characters was collected. The types of a gathered image data are Korean character, Chiness character, Numeral, English character, Special character, and so on. This paper deals with a handwritten character image data base, and the image data base different from the general storage structure of a lame capacity multimedia was designed and builded.

패션상품에 활용된 캐릭터의 이미지에 대한 분석 (An Analysis of Character Image Used to Fashion Commodity)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the preference according to the domestic fashion company use the character image of the inside and outside of the country, the recognition for the importance of the character by examining the purchasing behavior of high school girls and college women as the major consumer in the character fashion commodity (in the center of the clothe and accessory), and the aid for the self-development and the licensing of the character in the future. This study targeted 491 high school girls and college women in Daegu and Kyung-pook area. The character preference according to the character image applied the fashion commodity was used the scale of seven point modified the S D (Semantic Differential) method for Kim, Chun-Ae's image measure. The followings are the conclusions of this study; Both the group of high school girls and the group of college women almost represented the similar reaction result for the images of 9 characters. For the preference of the group of high school girls and the group of college women for 9 character, for characters Tweety, Bugs Bunny, the group of college women represented more preference than the group of high school girls. However, for characters of Hello Kitty, Pazama sister's and Dalki, the group of high school girls represented more preference than the group of college women.

  • This paper proposes a new image processing algorithm to recognize korean documents. It take out the region of syllable area from input character image, then it makes recognition of a consonant and a vowel in the character. A precision segmentation is very important to recognize the input character. The input image has 8-bit gray scaled resolution. Not only the shape but also vertical and horizontal lines dispersion graph are used for segmentation. Theresult shows a higher accuracy of character segmentation.

The Pattern Recognition System Using the Fractal Dimension of Chaos Theory

  • In this paper, we propose a method that extracts features from character patterns using the fractal dimension of chaos theory. The input character pattern image is converted into time-series data. Then, using the modified Henon system suggested in this paper, it determines the last features of the character pattern image after calculating the box-counting dimension, natural measure, information bit, and information (fractal) dimension. Finally, character pattern recognition is performed by statistically finding each information bit that shows the minimum difference compared with a normalized character pattern database.

  • With the progress of science and technology, animation is no longer about simply describing the nature. People's imagination is elevated to new stage, which not only improve the image in the reality, but also create the absent image in the reality. To analyze according to the existence, these characters have two basic elements. The one is the character existing in the reality, we process and design it according to the artistic technique, so as to make it service for the plot and film (hereafter called documentary character). The other is the character not existing in the reality (hereafter called conceptual character), which is called simulation image by Baudrillard.

  • 운송 컨테이너 영상에서 문자 영역 분할 오류는 컨테이너 자동화 처리를 위한 운송 컨테이너 식별자 인식시스템의 성능에 심각한 영향을 주는 요소 중의 하나이므로, 운송 컨테이너 식별자 인식 시스템의 성능을 향상시키기 위해서는 보다 정확한 문자 영역의 분할이 요구된다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 문자 영역으로 오인할 수 있는 운송 컨테이너 영상에 포함된 여러 가지 불필요한 영상들을 형태학적 연산에 의하여 제거하고 식별자 영역 즉, 문자열 영역만을 분리한다. 이렇게 분리된 문자열 영역의 임계값을 구하여 이진화 한 후에 개별 문자로 분할하는 방법을 제안한다. 또한, 제안한 방법으로 실험한 결과는 컨테이너 식별자의 각 문자들이 정확하게 분할되었음을 보여준다.
