나무구조 벡터양자화 기반의 차분 인덱스 할당기법 (A Differential Index Assignment Scheme for Tree-Structured Vector Quantization)

  • 가변길이 나무구조 벡터양자화기(VLTSVQ : variable-length tree-structured vector quantizer)를 기반으로 하는 영상 부호화 방식인 차분 인덱스(DI : Differential index) 할당기법을 제안하였다. 각 소스벡터는 VLTSVQ의 단말 노드로 양자화가 되어지고, 각 단말 노드는 유일한 이진 벡터로 표현된다. 제안한 방법은 영상의 화질은 유지하면서 압축률을 개선하기 위해 이웃하는 영상 블록들간의 상관성을 이용하였다. 모의실험을 통하여 제안한 방법이 기존 방법들에 비해 매우 높은 압축률을 보였으며, 화소간의 상관성이 높은 영상에 대해서는 63.2%의 발생 비트율 감소를 확인하였다. 그리고 영상내의 이웃블록들간 상관성이 커질수록 더 큰 비트율이 감소됨을 보였다. 제안한 부호화 기법은 일반적으로 이웃된 화소들간에 높은 상관성을 가진 MR(magnetic resonance)영상 부호화에 효율적으로 사용될 수 있다.

항공 영상 융합의 성능 향상을 위한 적응 가이디드 필터 (An Adaptive Guided Filter for Performance Improvement of Aviation Image Fusion)

  • 본 논문에서는 최적의 항공 영상 융합을 위하여 적응 가이디드 필터 기반 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 제안한 적응 가이디드 필터는 가이디드 필터 설계 요소 중에서 정규화 파라미터 값을 입력된 영상 특성에 따라서 조절하고 PSNR (peak signal to noise ratio)을 미리 정해둔 값으로 유지한다. 제안한 방법은 입력 영상의 특성에 관계없이 미리 정한 PSNR을 유지하는 범위 내에서 잡음을 제거하므로 최적의 영상 융합 성능의 결과를 가져올 수 있다. 필터 성능은 시뮬레이션을 통해 검증하였고, 기존에 많이 사용되고 있는 영상융합 품질 파라미터를 이용하여 분석하였다.

모멘트 변화와 객체 크기 비율을 이용한 객체 행동 및 위험상황 인식 (Object-Action and Risk-Situation Recognition Using Moment Change and Object Size's Ratio)

  • This paper proposes a method to track object of real-time video transferred through single web-camera and to recognize risk-situation and human actions. The proposed method recognizes human basic actions that human can do in daily life and finds risk-situation such as faint and falling down to classify usual action and risk-situation. The proposed method models the background, obtains the difference image between input image and the modeled background image, extracts human object from input image, tracts object's motion and recognizes human actions. Tracking object uses the moment information of extracting object and the characteristic of object's recognition is moment's change and ratio of object's size between frames. Actions classified are four actions of walking, waling diagonally, sitting down, standing up among the most actions human do in daily life and suddenly falling down is classified into risk-situation. To test the proposed method, we applied it for eight participants from a video of a web-cam, classify human action and recognize risk-situation. The test result showed more than 97 percent recognition rate for each action and 100 percent recognition rate for risk-situation by the proposed method.

인접 픽셀 값과의 기울기 정보를 이용한 확대 영상의 화질 개선 기법 (Quality improvement scheme of magnified image by using gradient information between adjacent pixel values)

  • 본 논문에서는 실제 영상에 일반적으로 존재하는 지역성과 실제 영상에 존재하는 단순 볼록 곡면 특성과 단순 오목 곡면의 특성을 충실히 반영하도록 확대 영상의 보간 픽셀 값들을 추정하기 위하여 인접 픽셀 값과의 기울기 정보를 이용하는 효율적인 보간 기법을 제안하였다. 제안된 기법을 적용하여 확대한 영상의 화질 향상을 측정하기 위하여 PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio)을 사용하였다. 제안된 기법을 적용하여 확대한 다양한 영상들의 PSNR 값들이 기존의 보간 기법들을 적용하여 확대한 영상들의 PSNR 값보다 큰 것을 확인하였다.

An Automatic Strabismus Screening Method with Corneal Light Reflex based on Image Processing

  • Strabismus is one of the most common disease that might be associated with vision impairment. Especially in infants and children, it is critical to detect strabismus at an early age because uncorrected strabismus may go on to develop amblyopia. To this end, ophthalmologists usually perform the Hirschberg test, which observes corneal light reflex (CLR) to determine the presence and type of strabismus. However, this test is usually done manually in a hospital, which might be difficult for patients who live in a remote area with poor medical access. To address this issue, we propose an automatic strabismus screening method that calculates the CLR ratio to determine the presence of strabismus based on image processing. In particular, the method first employs a pre-trained face detection model and a 68 facial landmarks detector to extract the eye region image. The data points located in the limbus are then collected, and the least square method is applied to obtain the center coordinates of the iris. Finally, the coordinate of the reflective light point center within the iris is extracted and used to calculate the CLR ratio with the coordinate of iris edges. Experimental results with several images demonstrate that the proposed method can be a promising solution to provide strabismus screening for patients who cannot visit hospitals.

Tongue Indices with Upper Respiratory Tract Infection for Application in Diagnostic Systems Without Face-to-face Visits

  • Although upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) are common diseases, there have been no studies of their relationship with the indices obtained from tongue image analyses. The purpose of this study was to identify a tongue index through an analysis of tongue images (TIs) showing significant changes before and after treatment in patients with URTIs. A computerized tongue image acquisition system was developed to acquire TIs from subjects in the same environment. An image was taken from each of 39 URTI patients and 39 healthy controls. For the patients, images were acquired before and after treatment to identify changes. The tongue area was classified into a tongue body and a tongue coating, and the coating ratio between the two areas, the average value of the colour of each area, and teeth marks were calculated. No significant difference was observed in age or sex between the URTI patients and control participants. Heart rates were slightly different. The analysis of TIs showed that the luminance of the tongue coating and the coating area ratio were decreased, while the reddish value of the tongue body at the centre area increased as the treatment progressed. Tongue coating and body in URTIs had different colour and shape from those in the normal. It is expected that this result will contribute not only to the objectification of traditional Chinese medicine but also to diagnostic methods that do not involve face-to-face physician visit during the pandemic.

Underwater Optical Image Data Transmission in the Presence of Turbulence and Attenuation

  • Underwater images carry information that is useful in the fields of aquaculture, underwater military security, navigation, transportation, and so on. In this research, we transmitted an underwater image through various underwater mediums in the presence of underwater turbulence and beam attenuation effects using a high-speed visible optical carrier signal. The optical beam undergoes scintillation because of the turbulence and attenuation effects; therefore, distorted images were observed at the receiver end. To understand the behavior of the communication media, we obtained the bit error rate (BER) performance of the system with respect to the average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Also, the structural similarity index (SSI) and peak SNR (PSNR) metrics of the received image were evaluated. Based on the received images, we employed suitable nonlinear filters to recover the distorted images and enhance them further. The BER, SSI, and PSNR metrics of the specific nonlinear filters were also evaluated and compared with the unfiltered metrics. These metrics were evaluated using the on-off keying and binary phase-shift keying modulation techniques for the 50-m and 100-m links for beam attenuation resulting from pure seawater, clear ocean water, and coastal ocean water mediums.

  • This paper describes image-rejection down conversion mixer for bluetooth application using 0.35u CMOS process. the proposed architecture is composed of LO phase shifter, mixer core, IF buffer, and IF phase shifter. IF phase shifter is designed using polyphase fillet. Simulation results show conversion gain = l0㏈, input 1㏈ compression point = -15.7㏈m. input third-order intercept point(IIP3) = -4.4㏈m, and image-rejection ratio = 37.8㏈, respectively, at 3V supply voltage, and 15.7㎃ current.

  • In this paper, an image enhancement method by saturation and contrast improvement is proposed. Histogram equalization with color difference makes higher contrast. By generating saturation amplification ratio with color difference, the saturation improves effectively. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has higher contrast and more natural - look than the conventional methods.

  • Photoconductive target was fabricated to make vidicon available. In order for a vidicon to operate well, it is essential that the target have high photosensitivity, low image lag, and high resolution. In the vidicon mode analysis, photosensitivity of 0.8, image lag of 30%, resolution of 300 TV lines, and the S/N ratio of 30 dB at 10 lux illumination were measured.
