  • With the recent development of IT technology, medical image processing technology is also widely used in the dental field, and the treatment effect is enhanced by using 3D data such as CT. In this paper, open source libraries such as ITK and VTK are introduced to develop dental medical image processing software, and how to use them to develop dental medical image processing software centering on 3D CBCT. In ITK, basic algorithms for medical image processing are implemented, so the image processing pipeline can be quickly implemented, and the desired algorithm can be easily implemented as a filter by the developer. The developed algorithm is linked with VTK to implement the visualization function. The developed SW can be used for dental diagnosis and treatment that overcomes the limitations of 2D images..

  • In this paper, we propose a compressed sensing (CS) based Wyner-Ziv (WZ) codec using motion-aligned auto regressive model (MAAR) based side information (SI) extrapolation to improve the compression performance of low-delay distributed video coding (DVC). In the CS based WZ codec, the WZ frame is divided into small blocks and CS measurements of each block are acquired at the encoder, and a specific CS reconstruction algorithm is proposed to correct errors in the SI using CS measurements at the decoder. In order to generate high quality SI, a MAAR model is introduced to improve the inaccurate motion field in auto regressive (AR) model, and the Tikhonov regularization on MAAR coefficients and overlapped block based interpolation are performed to reduce block effects and errors from over-fitting. Simulation experiments show that our proposed CS based WZ codec associated with MAAR based SI generation achieves better results compared to other SI extrapolation methods.

  • In the past, the Image processing system is independently implemented and has a limit in its application to a degree of simple display. The scope of present image processing system is diversely extended in its application owing to the development of image processing IC chips. In this paper, we implement the image processing system operated independently without PC by converting analogue image signals into digital signals. In the proposed image processing system, we extract the motion parameters from analogue image signals and generate the virtual movement to Simulator and operate Simulator by extracting motion parameters.

  • We developed a high-throughput microscopy (HTM) method which enabled us to replace a conventional phase contrast microscopy (PCM) method that has been used as a standard analytical method for airborne asbestos. We could obtain the concentration of airborne asbestos fibers under detection limit by automated image processing and analysis using HTM method. Here we propose an improved image processing algorithm with variable parameters to enhance the accuracy of the HTM analysis. Since the variable parameters that compensate the difference of the brightness are applied to the individual images in our new image processing method, it is possible to enhance the accuracy of the automatic image analysis method for sample slides with low asbestos concentration that caused errors in binary image processing. We demonstrated that enumeration of fibers by improved image processing algorithm remarkably enhanced the accuracy of HTM analysis in comparison with PCM. The improved HTM method can be a potential alternative to conventional PCM.

  • In this paper a new approach of digitalized ‘Takbon’ is introduced. By image signal processing, the letters which were written on stones can be deciphered. Epigraphic letter is detected by digital image device, digital camera. The two dimensional digital image is preprocessed because of sensor noise and detective turbulence. Color image is transformed into grey level. The letter image is analyzed in time/frequency domain. By the resultant analysis data decisive functions are calculated. Signal Processing techniques, such as scaling, clipping, digital negative, high/low filter, morphology and so on, provide algorithms that can extract letter from stones.

  • This paper presents an image processing method which emphasizes a certain perception feeling on a color image. A series of fuzzy image processing schemes are proposed, which transform an color image represented in the LCH coordinate system to the image with a certain perception feeling based on the rules and fuzzy inference. To obtain the rules, results of the sensory perception tests are applied to the quantification theory. The proposed schemes can be effectively utilized in the color copy system, since printed outputs possibly look better than originals.

  • This study was conducted to find out the coefficient relationships between intensity values image processing and pollution density of slurries. Slurry images were obtained from the image processing system using personnel computer and CCD-camera. Software, written in Visual $c^{++}$, combined the functions of the image capture, image processing and image analysis. The data of image processing for slurries were analyzed by the method of regression analysis. The results are as follows. 1. Red(R)-values among image processing data were obtained the highest correlation coefficient 0.9213 for detecting COD. Also, green(G)-value were obtained the highest correlation coefficient 0.9019 fur detecting BOD. Blue(B)-value could not find significant values to detect the pollution resources density. 2. Hue(H)-values among image processing data were obtained the highest correlation coefficient 0.9466 for detecting BOD. This fact could be used in detecting BOD 3. Green(G)-value, GRAY-value, Hue(H)-value, Saturation(5)-value and Intensity(I)-value were the correlation coefficient more than 0.8 for BOD. Hue(H)-value was higher correlation coefficient than any other value. It was possible to detect pollution density of slurries by using the image processing system. 4. Red(R)-value, GRAY-value and Saturation(5)-value were obtained the correlation coefficient more than 0.8 for detecting COD. a-value had the highest correlation coefficient Among these values. It was possible to detect density indirectly by using the image processing system. 5. SS-density were obtained the correlation coefficient less than 0.8 by using the image processing system. The density of $NH_4$-N and $NO_3$-N were obtained correlation coefficient less than 0.2.

  • There are numerous image processing systems these are usually depend on high performance processors. However, systems using high performance processors might not be proper to mobile applications or low-power systems. Therefore, more efficient methodology for image processing is required for variable applications. This paper proposed pre-processing method using intra prediction concept in order to reduce processing range in a image picture(frame) and entire processing time. Also, the system configuration based on intra prediction hardware core and implementation result of the hardware core are presented in this paper.

  • This paper is concerned with the measurement of static and dynamic displacement by image processing(IP) and study for prediction method of velocity and acceleration. To measure the displacement visually, the measurement system consists of a telephoto zoom camera, ccd image device and a computer. The specific target on the white board is used to calculate the displacement of the structure. The captured image is then converted into a pixel-based data and then analyzed numerically. The limitation of the system depends on the image capturing speed and the pixel-size of image. In this paper, we developed for the displacement measurement using the image processing method. The proposed method enables us to measure the vibration measurement, velocity and acceleration directly without any contact. The current resolution of the displacement measurement is limited to 1/100 millimeter scale.

  • This study was one of a series of studies on application of machine vision and image processing to extract the geometrical features of plants and to analyze plant growth. Several algorithms were developed to measure morphological properties of plants and describing the growth development of in-situ lettuce(Lactuca sativa L.). Canopy, centroid, leaf density and fractal dimension of plant were measured from a top viewed binary image. It was capable of identifying plants by a thinning top viewed image. Overlapping the thinning side viewed image with a side viewed binary image of plant was very effective to auto-detect meaningful nodes associated with canopy components such as stem, branch, petiole and leaf. And, plant height, stem diameter, number and angle of branches, and internode length and so on were analyzed by using meaningful nodes extracted from overlapped side viewed images. Canopy, leaf density and fractal dimension showed high relation with fresh weight or growth pattern of in-situ lettuces. It was concluded that machine vision system and image processing techniques are very useful in extracting geometrical features and monitoring plant growth, although interactive methods, for some applications, were required.
