  • This study is about an efficient synthesis of $360^{\circ}$ video and 3D graphics. First, the video image filmed by a binocular integral type $360^{\circ}$ camera was stitched, and location values of the camera and objects were extracted. And the data of extracted location values were moved to the 3D program to create 3D objects, and the methods for natural compositing was researched. As a result, as the method for natural compositing of $360^{\circ}$ video image and 3D graphics, rendering factors and rendering method were derived. First, as for rendering factors, there were 3D objects' location and quality of material, lighting and shadow. Second, as for rendering method, actual video based rendering method's necessity was found. Providing the method for natural compositing of $360^{\circ}$ video image and 3D graphics through this study process and results is expected to be helpful for research and production of $360^{\circ}$ video image and VR video contents.

  • Inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) image is a powerful tool to show the major scattering regions (scatterer points) on the target. It is normally used to identify and classify targets. Finding information for the scatter points of ISAR image plays an important role in modeling the features of targets. In this paper, we propose a modeling method to extract some information about the scatterer points by minimizing approximating error. Here, the extracted information include not only the location of scatterer points but also some statistical data about the error of the their location. These extracted data can be used to implement the randomness of the location of the scatterer points. Furthermore, we reconstruct an image from the extracted data for scatterer points obtained by our proposed method. And we show that the reconstructed ISAR image is well approximated to the original ISAR image in order to justify our proposed modeling method.

  • In recent years, In recent years, research on geo-tagged image contents has defined a view frustum based on filming location and direction data and has studied indexes and various query search techniques for efficient search. The existing view frustum model has a limit of using the static visible distance and provides a simple service that displays the huge image contents on the digital map. We show a method to acquire filming location and attitude data and propose a view frustum model that can change the visible distance using geospatial object data. In addition, we describe the augmented reality service that combines the image matching technique so that it can be mapped in the scene where the image contents are captured.

  • The LEOP Cal/Val (Launch and Early Operation Phase Calibration/Validation) was carried out during 6 months after KOMPSAT-3A (KOMPSAT-3A Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-3A) was launched in March 2015. After LEOP Cal/Val was successfully completed, high resolution KOMPSAT-3A has been successfully distributing to users over the past 8 years. The sub-meter high-resolution satellite image data obtained from KOMPSAT-3A is used as basic data for qualitative and quantitative information extraction in various fields such as mapping, GIS (Geographic Information System), and national land management, etc. The KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute) periodically checks and manages the quality of KOMPSAT-3A's product and the characteristics of satellite hardware to ensure the accuracy and reliability of information extracted from satellite data of KOMPSAT-3A. To minimize the deterioration of image quality due to aging of satellite hardware, payload and attitude sensors of KOMPSAT-3A, continuous improvement of image quality has been carried out. In this paper, the Cal/Val work-flow defined in the KOMPSAT-3A development phase was illustrated for the period of before and after the launch. The MTF, SNR, and location accuracy are the key parameters to estimate image quality and the methods of the measurements of each parameter are also described in this work. On the basis of defined quality parameters, the performance was evaluated and measured during the period of after LEOP Cal/Val. The current status and characteristics of MTF, SNR, and location accuracy of KOMPSAT-3A from 2016 to May 2020 were described as well.

  • Although huge progress has been made in current image segmentation work, there are still no efficient segmentation strategies for tree image which is taken from natural environment and contains complex background. To improve those problems, we propose a method for tree image segmentation combining adaptive mean shifting with image abstraction. Our approach perform better than others because it focuses mainly on the background of image and characteristics of the tree itself. First, we abstract the original tree image using bilateral filtering and image pyramid from multiple perspectives, which can reduce the influence of the background and tree canopy gaps on clustering. Spatial location and gray scale features are obtained by step detection and the insertion rule method, respectively. Bandwidths calculated by spatial location and gray scale features are then used to determine the size of the Gaussian kernel function and in the mean shift clustering. Furthermore, the flood fill method is employed to fill the results of clustering and highlight the region of interest. To prove the effectiveness of tree image abstractions on image clustering, we compared different abstraction levels and achieved the optimal clustering results. For our algorithm, the average segmentation accuracy (SA), over-segmentation rate (OR), and under-segmentation rate (UR) of the crown are 91.21%, 3.54%, and 9.85%, respectively. The average values of the trunk are 92.78%, 8.16%, and 7.93%, respectively. Comparing the results of our method experimentally with other popular tree image segmentation methods, our segmentation method get rid of human interaction and shows higher SA. Meanwhile, this work shows a promising application prospect on visual reconstruction and factors measurement of tree.

  • An image retrieval method combining shape information of 2-dimension color histograms with color information of HSI color histograms is proposed in this paper. In addition, the proposed method can find location information of image through the comparison of similarity among subimages. The suggested retrieval method applies the location information to shape and color information and can retrieve region information which is hard to distinguish in the binary image. Some simulation results show that it works very well in the behalf of precision/recall graph compare with conventional method which uses color histogram. Especially, the proposed method brought well effects such as rotations and transitions of the objects in an image was found.

  • As one of the most interesting scenes, landmarks constitute a large percentage of the vast amount of scene images available on the web. On the other hand, a specific "landmark" usually has some characteristics that distinguish it from surrounding scenes and other landmarks. These two observations make the task of accurately estimating geographic information from a landmark image necessary and feasible. In this paper, we propose a method to identify landmark location by means of landmark recognition in view of significant viewpoint, illumination and temporal variations. We use GPS-based clustering to form groups for different landmarks in the image dataset. The images in each group rather fully express the possible views of the corresponding landmark. We then use a combination of edge and color histogram to match query to database images. Initial experiments with Zubud database and our collected landmark images show that is feasible.

  • This study proposes a novel video traffic flow detection method based on machine vision technology. The three-frame difference method, which is one kind of a motion evaluation method, is used to establish initial background image, and then a statistical scoring strategy is chosen to update background image in real time. Finally, the background difference method is used for detecting the moving objects. Meanwhile, a simple but effective shadow elimination method is introduced to improve the accuracy of the detection for moving objects. Furthermore, the study also proposes a vehicle matching and tracking strategy by combining characteristics, such as vehicle's location information, color information and fractal dimension information. Experimental results show that this detection method could quickly and effectively detect various traffic flow parameters, laying a solid foundation for enhancing the degree of automation for traffic management.

  • An image processing algorithm is developed in order to recognize the type of cars, the position of a number plate and the characters on the plate. to recognize the type of cars, comparison of two images is used. One has a car image, the other is just a background image without car. After that recognition, a vertical line filter is used to find the location of the plate. Finally the simularity mehod is used to recognize the numbers on plates.
