  • In this paper, a temporally adaptive layered image sequence coding technique employing H.261 is proposed. In the proposed technique, the frame rate of the base layer is adjusted according to the temporal activity measure based on the rate-distortion function. The base layer is encoded using the H.261. Then, the full frame-rate error image is formed by comparing the original image and the interpolated version of the reconstructed base layer image. The enhancement layer is algo encoded using H.261 but with leaky prdiction to provide robust error resilience. The simulation results show that the proposed technique provides better performance than the twin-H.261 with leaky prediction in both the fixed-rate and variable-rate systems.

  • Minimizing the residual impurity level on the MgO layer is the key factor for reducing temporal dark image sticking on bright screen. In this paper, to reduce the residual impurity level on the MgO layer of 50-in. full-HD ac-PDP with He (35%) - Xe (11%) contents, RF-plasma treatments on the MgO layer are adopted under various gases for plasma treatment. As a result of monitoring the difference in the display luminance between the before and after 5-min. sustain discharge with a square-type image at peak luminance, the Ar and Ar>$O_2$ plasma treatments can reduce the temporal dark image sticking on the bright screen in an ac-PDP.

  • In this paper, we perform Single Image Super Resolution(SISR) for acquired images of EOTS or IRST from naval combat system. In order to conduct super resolution, we use Generative Adversarial Networks(GANs), which consists of a generative model to create a super-resolution image from the given low-resolution image and a discriminative model to determine whether the generated super-resolution image is qualified as a high-resolution image by adjusting various learning parameters. The learning parameters consist of a crop size of input image, the depth of sub-pixel layer, and the types of training images. Regarding evaluation method, we apply not only general image quality metrics, but feature descriptor methods. As a result, a larger crop size, a deeper sub-pixel layer, and high-resolution training images yield good performance.

  • In this paper, we present a novel method for simultaneous detection and tracking of multiple objects using dual-layer particle filtering. The proposed dual-layer particle sampling (DLPS) algorithm consists of parent-particles (PP) in the first layer for detecting multiple objects and child-particles (CP) in the second layer for tracking objects. In the first layer, PPs detect persons using a classifier trained by the intersection kernel support vector machine (IKSVM) at each particle under a randomly selected scale. If a certain PP detects a person, it generates CPs, and makes an object model in the detected object region for tracking the detected object. While PPs that have detected objects generate CPs for tracking, the rest of PPs still move for detecting objects. Experimental results show that the proposed method can automatically detect and track multiple objects, and efficiently reduce the processing time using the sampled particles based on motion distribution in video sequences.

  • The oxide layer in samples taken from an irradiated Zr-2.5Nb pressure tube from a CANDU-PHWR reactor was analyzed using electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). The examined tube had been exposed to temperatures ranging from 264 to 306 ℃ and a neutron fluence of 8.9 × 1021 n/cm2 (E > 1 MeV) for the maximum 10 effective full-power years in a nuclear power plant. Measuring oxide layer thickness generally employs optical microscopy. However, in this study, analysis of the oxide layer from the irradiated pressure tube components was undertaken through X-ray image mapping obtained using EPMA. The oxide layer characteristics were analyzed by X-ray image mapping with 256 × 256 pixels using EPMA. In addition, the slope of the oxide layer was measured for each location. A particular advantage of this study was that backscattered electrons and X-ray image mapping were obtained at a magnification of 9,000 when 20 kV volts and 30 uA of current were applied to radiation-shielded EPMA. The results of this study should usefully contribute to the study of the oxide layer properties of various types of metallic materials irradiated by high radiation in nuclear power plants.

  • In this paper, we classify various attacks that may damage the embedded watermark signal into waveform attack and synchronization attack. And for the specialized defense against the two kinds of attacks we propose a new watermarking scheme named as two layer watermarking method. It consists of a synchronization layer to prepare for the geometrical attack such as rotation and shift and a marking layer 0 embed the watermark signal actually. Namely, the synchronization layer only determines the target region where the watermark signal will be embedded or extracted. And the marking layer spreads the watermark signal over the image as the conventional watermarking methods do. Using the layered structure, the proposed method overcomes the problem that the conventional watermarking methods that do not use the original image at the verification side are most vulnerable to geometrical attacks.

  • Purpose: This study proposes a new ball-type phantom for evaluation of the image layer of panoramic radiography. Materials and Methods: The arch shape of an acrylic resin phantom was derived from average data on the lower dental arch in Korean adult males. Metal balls with a 2-mm diameter were placed along the center line of the phantom at a 4-mm mesiodistal interval. Additional metal balls were placed along the 22 arch-shaped lines that ran parallel to the center line at 2-mm buccolingual intervals. The height of each ball in the horizontal plane was spaced by 2.5 mm, and consequently, the balls appeared oblique when viewed from the side. The resulting phantom was named the Panorama phantom. The distortion rate of the balls in the acquired image was measured by automatically calculating the difference between the vertical and horizontal length using $MATLAB^{(R)}$. Image layer boundaries were obtained by applying various distortion rate thresholds. Results: Most areas containing metal balls (91.5%) were included in the image layer with a 50% distortion rate threshold. When a 5% distortion rate threshold was applied, the image layer was formed with a small buccolingual width along the arch-shaped center line. However, it was medially located in the temporomandibular joint region. Conclusion: The Panorama phantom could be used to evaluate the image layer of panoramic radiography, including all mesiodistal areas with large buccolingual width.

  • Recently, artificial intelligence has been applied to various fields such as image recognition, image recognition speech recognition, and natural language processing, and interest in Deep Learning technology is increasing. Many researches on Convolutional Neural Network(CNN), which is one of the most representative algorithms among Deep Learning, have strong advantages in image recognition and classification and are widely used in various fields. In this paper, we propose a new network structure that transforms the general CNN structure. A typical CNN structure consists of a convolution layer, ReLU layer, and a pooling layer. Therefore in this paper, We intend to construct a new network by adding fully connected layer inside a general CNN structure. This modification is intended to increase the learning and accuracy of the convoluted image by including the generalization which is an advantage of the neural network.
