  • In this paper, we propose a reversible watermarking algorithm where an original image can be recovered from the watermarked image. Most watermarking algorithms cause degradation of image quality in original digital contents in the process of embedding watermarks. In the proposed algorithm, the original image can be obtained when the degradation is removed from the watermarked image after extracting watermark information. In the proposed algorithm, we utilize a peak point of image histogram and the location map and modify pixel values slightly to embed data. Because the peak point of image histogram and the location map are employed in this algorithm, there is no need of extra information transmitted to the receiving side. As the locations watermark embedding are identified using the location map, the amount of watermark data can increase through recursive embedding.

  • In this paper, we will discuss techniques that can increase the resolution by 1.4 times without distortion or performance degradation of the original image, using diagonal information of the image. The applied method is to use the image information of 4 adjacent points without actual rotating the image by 45 degrees and enlarge and rearrange it according to the characteristics of the camera, so that the same physical concept as the actual 45 degrees can be applied. This is a concrete realization method that can improve the resolution by 1.4 times without deterioration of performance and a demonstration of this result.

  • Low-light image enhancement is a key technique to overcome the quality degradation of photos taken under scotopic vision illumination conditions. The degradation includes low brightness, low contrast, and outstanding noise, which would seriously affect the vision of the human eye recognition ability and subsequent image processing. In this paper, we propose an approach based on deep learning and Retinex theory to enhance the low-light image, which includes image decomposition, illumination prediction, image reconstruction, and image optimization. The first three parts can reconstruct the enhanced image that suffers from low-resolution. To reduce the noise of the enhanced image and improve the image quality, a super-resolution algorithm based on the Laplacian pyramid network is introduced to optimize the image. The Laplacian pyramid network can improve the resolution of the enhanced image through multiple feature extraction and deconvolution operations. Furthermore, a combination loss function is explored in the network training stage to improve the efficiency of the algorithm. Extensive experiments and comprehensive evaluations demonstrate the strength of the proposed method, the result is closer to the real-world scene in lightness, color, and details. Besides, experiments also demonstrate that the proposed method with the single low-light image can achieve the same effect as multi-exposure image fusion algorithm and no ghost is introduced.

  • Band-limited filtering will be applied to remove interference resulted from two neighbored channels in the transmission of KOMPSAT-5 X-Band image data. In that case, receiver in ground station should prepare righteous matched filter to avoid huge BER degradation depending on the matched filter of COTS receiver. As an effort to simulate the bandlimited filtering, test filter was designed and manufactured on the basis of main specification for output filter of KOMPSAT-5 satellite. Consequently, 1.8dB of BER degradation was measured at the output of test band-pass filter, but the degradation was downsized up to 0.4dB thanks to the adaptive matched filter of COTS receiver.

  • In TFT-LCDs, as the display size area becomes larger, and the resolution higher, we have to consider the image degradation effects due to the incorporation of the TFT-LCD parameters such as the data-line resistance, the common electrode resistance, the data-line to common parasitic capacitance, and the output characteristics of driver ICs. One of the degradation effects is crosstalk resulting from the coupling between the source bus-line and common electrode. Since a source signal which represents a large number of display data is supposed to vary frequently, the common signal level is affected through the coupling effect, resulting in the degradation of nearby pixel drive signals. Therefore, we proposed a method to compensate for this source-common electrode coupling effect, we also designed and experimented the feasibility of our crosstalk compensation circuit in the actual TFT-LCD. We saw that the newly designed compensation circuit greatly reduced the crosstalk in display pattern image.

  • In this paper, 'lifetime-temperature rise model' based on the 'lifetime-resistance model' is theoretically Proposed, in order to find out the evaluation method of degradation and the residual lifetime by use of infrared image camera for electric connections/contacts. Two assumptions have been builded up for the 'lifetime-temperature rise model': one is associated with the linear relationship between the temperature ism ΔK and contact resistance, and the other the functional relationship between the temperature of electric connections/contacts and the operating time presenting in the 'lifetime-resistance model'. To prove the proposed model, experiments have been performed for various electric connections/contacts. From the experimental results, measured values were quite similar to the calculated values, which proved the above-mentioned two assumptions. Therefore, by use of 'lifetime-temperature rise model', it is possible to estimate the trend of degradation and the residual lifetime for electric connections/contacts through the temperature measurements .

  • Image analyses for sheared joint specimens are performed to study asperity degradation characteristics with respect to the roughness mobilization of rock joints. Four different types of joint specimens, which are made of high-strength gypsum materials, are prepared by replicating the three-dimensional roughness of rock joints. About twenty jointed rock shear tests are performed at various normal stress levels. The characteristic and scale of asperity degradation on the sheared joint specimens are analyzed using the digital image analysis technique. The results show that the asperity degradation characteristic mainly depends on the normal stress level and can be defined by asperity failure and wear. The asperity degradation develops significantly around the peak shear displacement and the average amount of degraded asperities remains constant with further displacement because of new degradation of small scale asperities. The shear strength results using high-strength gypsum materials can not fully represent physical properties of each mineral particles of asperities on the natural rock joint surface. However the results of this quantitative estimation for the relationship between the peak shear displacement and the asperity degradation suggest that the characterization of asperity degradation provides an important insight into mechanical characteristics and shear models of rock joints.

  • We propose a spatially adaptive image interpolation algorithm, which can restore high frequency details in the original high resolution image. In order to apply the regularization approach to the interpolation procedure, we first present a two-dimensional separable image degradation model for a low resolution imaging system. According to the model, we propose a regularized spatially adaptive interpolation algorithm by using five different constraints. We also analyze convergence of the proposed algorithm, and provide some experimental results to compare the proposed algorithm with its nonadaptive version.

  • Digital image find own level core media in multimedia as image restoration technology fields, which remove degradation factor for image enhancement, have been growing. Linear space-invariant image restoration algorithm often introduce ringing artifacts near sharp intensity transition areas. This paper presents a new adaptive post-filtering algorithm for reducing ringing artifact. The proposed method extracts an edge map of the image using wavelet transform Based on the edge information, ringing artifacts are detected, and removed by an adaptive bilateral filter. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can efficiently remove ringing artifacts with edge preservation.

  • In this paper, It propose methods compressing BTC image utilizing data hiding technique. BTC is used to compress general digital image into binary image and applied into application such as printer. Additional information, transferred with binary image, is as big as the size of binary image. Therefore, we wish to reduce the total transmission bandwidth by decreasing the additional information with sustaining the small image degradation. Because typical BTC image doesn't have enough space for data hiding, we adopt Adaptive AMBTC (Absolute Moment BTC) algorithm to produce the binary image, and calculate virtual histogram from created binary image and modify this histogram for reducing the additional information. The proposed algorithm can reduce about 6-11 % of the image file size, compared with the existing BTC algorithm, without making perceptible image degradation.
