  • Patients' privacy protection is a heated issue in medical business, as medical information in digital format transmit everywhere through networks without any limitation. A current protection method for brain images is to deface from the brain image for patient's privacy. However, the defacing process often removes important brain voxels so that the defaced brain image is damaged for medical analysis. An ad-hoc method is proposed to conceal patient's identification by adding cylindrical mask, while the brain keep all important brain voxels. The proposed lossless deformation of brain image is verified not to loose any important voxels. Futhermore, the masked brain image is proved not to be recognized by others.

  • This paper introduces a virtual dress up system, according to user's input model and garment image. At first step, we deform the garment image by using skeleton structures and ARAP method. Next step, sampling the boundary points and find their matching vertices which are used for optimizing the boundary fitting. In 2D rendering of the dress up, they have some unrealistic results, so we reconstruct the garment mesh to the 3D mesh. Rendering from the reconstructed 3D mesh, we can get the final dress up result. We present that our system produce a visually plausible and well-fitted virtual dress up results.

  • In this paper, knowledge based text to facial sequence image system for interaction of lecturer and learner in cyber universities is studied. The system is defined by the synthesis of facial sequence image which is synchronized the lip according to the text information based on grammatical characteristic of hangul. For the implementation of the system, the transformation method that the text information is transformed into the phoneme code, the deformation rules of mouse shape which can be changed according to the code of phonemes, and the synthesis method of facial sequence image by using deformation rules of mouse shape are proposed. In the proposed method, all syllables of hangul are represented 10 principal mouse shape and 78 compound mouse shape according to the pronunciation characteristics of the basic consonants and vowels, and the characteristics of the articulation rules, respectively. To synthesize the real time facial sequence image able to realize the PC, the 88 mouth shape stored data base are used without the synthesis of mouse shape in each frame. To verify the validity of the proposed method the various synthesis of facial sequence image transformed from the text information is accomplished, and the system that can be applied the PC is implemented using the proposed method.

  • A field theoretical approach to deformation and fracture of solid-state material is outlined, and its application to diagnosis of deformational status of metal specimens is discussed. Being based on a fundamental physical principle known as local symmetry, this approach is intrinsically scale independent, and capable of describing all stages of deformation on the same theoretical foundation. This capability enables us to derive criteria that can be used to diagnose transitions from the elastic to plastic regime, and the plastic to fracturing regime. For practical applications of these criteria, an optical interferometric technique known as electronic speckle-pattern interferometry is proved to be quite powerful; it is able to visualize the criteria as a whole image of the object on a real-time basis without numerical processing. It is demonstrated that this method is able to reveal loading hysteresis as well.

  • The concern study, present the results of experimental study on the performance of deep excavation by using image processing technique particle image velocimetry (PIV). The purpose of present study is to check the application of PIV for the successive ground deformation during deep excavation. To meet the objectives of concern study, a series of reduce scale model test box experiments are performed by considering the wall stiffness, ground water table effect and ground relative density. The results are presented in form of contour and vector plots and further based on PIV analysis wall and ground displacement profile are drawn. The results of present study, indicate that, the PIV technique is useful to demonstrate the ground deformation zone during the successive ground excavation as the degree of accuracy in PIV analysis and measured results with LVDT are within 1%. Further the vector and contours plot effectively demonstrate the ground behavior under different conditions and the PIV analysis results fully support the measured results.

  • One of the representative methods of optical flow is a gradient method which estimates the movement of an object based on the differential of image brightness. However, the method is ineffective for large displacement of the object and many improved methods have been proposed to copy with such limitations. One of these improved techniques is the multigrid processing, which is used in many optical flow algorithms. As an alternative novel technique we have been proposing an orthogonal functional expansion method, where whole displacements are expanded from low frequency terms. This method is expected to be applicable to flow estimation with large displacement and deformation including expansion and contraction, which are difficult to cope with by conventional optical flow methods. In the orthogonal functional expansion method, the apparent displacement field is calculated iteratively by a projection method which utilizes derivatives of the invariant constraint equations of brightness constancy. One feature of this method is that differentiation of the input image is not necessary, thereby reducing sensitivity to noise. In this paper, we apply our method to several real images in which the objects undergo large displacement and/or deformation including expansion. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the orthogonal functional expansion method by comparing with conventional methods including our optimally scaled multigrid optical flow algorithm.

  • When constructing a cylindrical vertical shaft through the open-cut method, the walls are generally designed to be temporary flexible walls that allow a certain level of displacement. The earth pressure applied to the flexible walls acts as an external force and its accurate estimation is essential for reasonable and economical structure design. The earth pressure applied to the flexible wall is closely interrelated to the plastic deformation of the surrounding ground. This study simulated a stepwise excavation for constructing a cylindrical vertical shaft through a centrifugal model test and evaluated the continuous deformation behaviors of the surrounding ground through digital image analysis.

  • Direct shear tests were on ducted in a laboratory setting in order to investigate the shear strength and deformation behavior of rock joints. Also, the characteristics of acoustic emissions (AE) during shearing of rock joints were studied. The artificial rock joints were created by splitting the intact blocks of Hwangdeung granites and Iksan marbles. Joint roughness profiles were measured by a profile gage and then digitized by Image analyzer. Roughness profile indices(Rp) of the joints were calculated with these digitized data. Peak shear strength, residual shear strength, shear stiffness and maximum acoustic emission(AE) rate were investigated with joint roughness. The peak shear strenght, the residual shear strength and the shear stiffness were increased as roughness popfile index or normal stress increased in the shear tests of granites. In the tests of marble samples, the shear deformation characteristics were not directly affected by joint roughness. As the result of two directional shear tests, the shear characteristics were varied with shear direction. AE count rates were measured during the shear deformation and the AE signals in several stages of the deformation were analyzed in a frequency domain. The AE rate peaks coincided with the stress drops during the shear deformation of joint. The dominant frequencies of the AE signals were in the vicinity of 100 kHz fo rgranite sample and 900 kHz for marble samples. The distribution of amplitude was dispersed with increasing normal stress.
