Analysis on the Domestic and International Illumination Research Trends in 2012 and Further Study Suggestion (2012년 국내외 조명 연구 동향 분석을 통한 연구 방향 제시)

  • This paper focuses on the domestic illumination research trends in 2012 based on reviewing the published papers in the Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers. It classifies and resumes the papers in five themes including exterior lighting, interior lighting, LED/OLED, optical device and optical fiber, and lighting industry. By comparatively studying a large number of papers published in Japan, North America, and China in the same year, the international illumination research trends are also figured out and further academic research topics are suggested.

  • As face recognition (FR) has been well studied over the past decades, FR technology has been applied to many real-world applications such as surveillance and biometric systems. However, in the real-world scenarios, FR performances have been known to be significantly degraded owing to variations in face images, such as the pose, illumination, and low-resolution. Recently, visual intelligence technology has been rapidly growing owing to advances in deep learning, which has also improved the FR performance. Furthermore, the FR performance based on deep learning has been reported to surpass the performance level of human perception. In this article, we discuss deep-learning based high-performance FR technologies in terms of representative deep-learning based FR architectures and recent FR algorithms robust to face image variations (i.e., pose-robust FR, illumination-robust FR, and video FR). In addition, we investigate big face image datasets widely adopted for performance evaluations of the most recent deep-learning based FR algorithms.

  • Phase-shifting masks (PSM), optical proximity correction (OPC), off-axis illumination (OAI), annular illumination (AI)의 리소그래피 분해능 향상 기법과 deep ultraviolet photoresist의 개발 및 리소그래피의 최근 기술 동향을 요약 소개한다. DUV 리소그래피의 대안으로 관심을 끌고 있는 scattering with angular limitation projection electron-beam lithography (SCALPEL), extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUVL), X-ray lithography (XRL), ion projection lithography (IPL) 등의 새로운 리소그래피 기술들의 기본 원리와 최근 기술 동향도 소개하였다. 리소그래피는 반도체 공정에 있어서 가장 중요한 부분을 차지하기 때문에 리소그래피의 최근 기술 동향을 검토해 봄으로써 국내 리소그래피 장비 산업의 기술 개발을 위한 방향 설정에 도움이 될 것으로 생각한다.

Lighting Environment Design Research for Well-Being of Elderly People (고령자의 삶의 질 향상을 위한 조명환경 디자인 연구)

  • It is necessary to conduct a basic research on fusion of ighting design or lighting environment to improve the health and quality of life of elderly people. The purpose of this study is to analyze the lighting situation of elderly people 's residential facilities in terms of space environment design plan and to analyze the trends in smart home, design and technology. It is to provide basic data for the prototype of lighting fixtures for elderly people living facilities considering functional, physiological and emotional characteristics. For the study, the target sites were selected and the results of the illumination survey of the target facilities were divided into two types of spaces, residential and other public spaces, and their location, lighting fixtures' type, color temperature, illuminance. The results of the survey showed that the overall physical illumination compared to the recommended illuminance for the elderly satisfied the recommended range and provided the appropriate brightness for the elderly. However, in the application layout of the lighting fixtures, a monotonous arrangement and a lighting fixtures type consisting entirely of simple square type fixtures and downlight types were applied. It would be desirable to use different types of lighting fixtures in the design for various functions, such as making the environment more comfortable. Future research will propose a prototype for the design direction of the subdivided lighting fixtures that classify the space according to functions and understand the vision problem of the elderly while aesthetically.

  • 본 고에서는 LED 조명을 이용한 가시광 무선통신 기술이 조명과 무선통신의 융합기술로서 충족해야 하는 요구사항들과 이를 충족시키기 위해 IEEE 802.15.7 국제 표준에서 논의하고 있는 다양한 기술들을 살펴본다. 상기의 기술들은 크게 플리커 방지 기술과 조명의 밝기 조절 관련 기술들로 구분되는데, 특히 플리커 방지는 조명으로서 갖추어야 할 필수 가능으로서 본 고에서는 가시광 무선통신에서 플리커가 발생하는 원인을 알아보고 이를 극복하기 위해 제안된 기술들의 특정들을 살펴본다. 또한, 조명으로서의 최대 밝기 제공, LED 광원의 보호 및 광원의 색 변이 방지 등의 요구사항들이 광원의 밝기 조절 기능과 어떤 연관성을 가지고 있는지를 살펴보고, 가시광 무선통신에서 광원의 밟기를 조절하기 위해 제안된 기술들의 주요 특정들을 소개한다.

  • Optical character recognition is a primary technology required in different fields, including digitizing archival documents, industrial automation, automatic driving, video analytics, medicine, and financial institution, among others. It was created in 1928 using pattern matching, but with the advent of artificial intelligence, it has since evolved into a high-performance character recognition technology. Recently, methods for detecting curved text and characters existing in a complicated background are being studied. Additionally, deep learning models are being developed in a way to recognize texts in various orientations and resolutions, perspective distortion, illumination reflection and partially occluded text, complex font characters, and special characters and artistic text among others. This report reviews the recent deep learning-based text detection and recognition methods and their various applications.

Research on the optimization of off-axis illumination condition and sub-resolution pattern size for the $0.1{\mu}m$ rule dense pattern formation ($0.1{\mu}m$급 dense 패턴 형성을 위한 사입사 조명 조건과 OPC 보조 패턴 크기의 최적 조건에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we have researched the depth of focus (DOF) and cutoff intensity of the $0.1{\mu}m$rule dense line'||'&'||'space pattern according to the various off-axis illumination (OAl) conditions in the optical system of 0.65 NA using ArF excimer laser (193 nm). We have also studied the variation of the DOF and cutoff intensity according to the sub-resolution pattern (hammer head type) size for optical proximity correction (OPC) applied to the capacitor pattern and the various OAl conditions in the same optical system. As a result, it is revealed that the cross type quadrupole or annular illumination is preferred to the conventional X type quadrupole for printing the $0.1{\mu}m$ rule dense pattern. Also, we can investigate the optimal illumination condition and the size of ope sub-resolution pattern to keep a consistent DGF and cutoff intensity trends.

An Analysis of Domestic Research Trends on Museum Lighting (박물관 조명에 관한 국내 연구 동향 분석)

  • In this study, research trends were investigated by examining important academic research on museum lighting that has been carried out in Korea over the past 30 years. The aim was to highlight important studies conducted in Korea on material deterioration caused by museum lighting and to examine the current status of research on LED light sources to provide direction for future research. The ultimate goal of studies on museum lighting is to improve the long-term conservation effects, and this study examined the latest light sources of each era. Prior to the 1990s, the effects of light sources on relics were assessed by investigating incandescent light bulbs and fluorescent lamps, the first museum exhibition lighting. Then in the 1990s, the introduction of halogen lamps and HID lamps led to the analysis of the characteristics of a light source itself and the introduction of illumination standards. In the 2000s, the lighting environment of museums was investigated based on the characteristics of the light sources that had been studied, and in terms of preservation, research was conducted not only to improve the conservation of relics but also to improve the sentiments of visitors. After 2010, LED lamps were introduced; therefore, material deterioration studies on LED lamps were expanded. During this period, enhancements to LED light sources were made, such as reducing the blue spike area and increasing color rendering. With the development of lighting used in museums and art galleries, the direction of the display preservation criteria has led to the need to prepare advanced standards, covering all aspects from the center of illumination to the consideration of the color of an object and the speed of radiation from the light source. Regular studies of museum lighting in a long-term perspective should be planned to standardize the more advanced conditions of material discoloration.

  • LED는 빛을 내는 반도체이다. LED는 백열전등에 비하여 전기 절감 효과가 높고, 형광 등에 비하여 수은을 사용하지 않아 친환경적이기 때문에 녹색성장의 대표주자 중 하나이다. 메모리 반도체와 전자통신 기기가 융합하여 지난 20년간 발전하여 왔듯이, 앞으로는 LED와 전자통신이 융합하여 새로운 형태의 융합 기술이 발전할 것이다. 현재 예상 가능한 LED 전자통신 융합 기술은 LED 조명과 동시에 통신을 할 수 있는 가시광 무선통신 기술과 감성 및 전기 절감을 실현할 수 있는 LED 조명 모듈간 유선 네트워킹 기술이다. 본 고에서는 LED 조명과 녹색성장이 연계된 배경, 가시광 무선통신의 국내 및 국제 표준 동향, LED 조명 네트워킹 기술을 설명한다. LED 융합 기술에 의하여 인간중심의 편리 시설을 제공하면서도 전기 절감 및 저탄소를 실현할 수 있다.

  • 본 연구는 한국 조명전기설비학회에 게재된 학술논문 및 DBPIA에서 검색된 조명관련 학술논문을 대상으로 조명 분야의 연구동향을 살펴본 것이다. 그 결과, 한국 조명전기설비학회지에 발표된 전체 논문 수는 꾸준히 상승하고 있었으나 조명분야의 논문 수와 저자 수는 매우 열악함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 다른 학회에서 조명분야를 연구하는 동향을 살펴본 결과, 건축분야에서 가장 많은 연구가 이루어짐을 알 수 있었으며, 우리나라 조명학 연구자 Pool은 2004년 기준 276명으로 파악되었다.
