Diaspora and National policy - Focusing on Russian Diaspora and chinese Diaspora (디아스포라와 국가정책 - 러시안 디아스포라와 차이니즈 디아스포라를 중심으로)

  • In the modern society in which globalization and localization proceed simultaneously, diversified and rapid migration of diaspora makes a new from of boundary off the frame of the state and the nation. This new border accompanies cultural change and racial mixture; retains ethnic conflict, the gap between rich and poor, alienation and discrimination, as well as power conflict; and extends its influence. Nowadays, the countries all over the world including Korea face problem of Diaspora in numerous forms. And each country takes an approach to the problem of the diaspora in the aspects of their society, culture and political technology. This implies that most countries, without understanding the new form of border which is alive and dynamic, define and conceptualize the diaspora in the frame of one state and one nation to carry forward the policies accordingly, resulting in inequal, incomplete and awkward homogenization. This study aimed to explore the identity of the diaspora, the core for the problem solving. Of course, studies about the identity of the diaspora have been continued until today and many great outcomes have been achieved. Nevertheless, this study aimed to explore the identity of the diaspora and the national policies which have a close interrelationship with it. It is because the study ultimately aimed to highlight the interrelationship between the destination countries, Russia and China, and the diaspora, through the definition and the classification of Russian diaspora and Chinese diaspora and the analysis of the national policies about that. However, the intention was not to distinguish superiority through the comparison of the polices about the diaspora between two countries, but to focus on the diversity of the identity of the diaspora through defining each different diaspora and paralleling the policies. Second, the reason for looking into the diaspora policies of these two countries is because it is judged the changes in the diaspora policies of each country is one of the active factors for the changes in the identify of the diaspora of each country and it is the basic research for the study on the identity of the diaspora. New migration of diaspora changes the identity of the state, and the state makes the policies and enforce the policies, resulting in the influence on the diaspora. This interaction acts as the growth factor for the new boundary. The causes of Russian diaspora and Chinese diaspora show apparent 'differences'. In parallel with this, the policies about the diaspora in Russia and China arouse 'differences' to the diaspora. The variation of the identity of the diaspora made by these differences will suggest other viewpoints on the diaspora, and these viewpoints will become the foundation for solving the problem of the diaspora in the present times.

  • Recently, the field of university PR(public relations) and UI(university identity) come to be emphasized as a remarkable one because the applicants to the universities are consistently reduced in Korea. The purpose of this thesis is to present a souvenir for university PR which is designed in a clothing commodity, easily accessible to visitors, helping students and university officials to keep a pride to our university. We have designed four kinds of clothing, ie T-shirts, polo-shirts, trousers, and hats, after scrutinizing those of other universities. By making change the length of sleeves and slacks, the four kinds were transformed into eight kinds of clothing commodities. The basic trend of this design is on the trompe l'oeil, with the colors being white, grey and black ones, which are of 100% cotton.

  • This study explores the grandchild-rearing experience of grandmothers whose children are part of dual-earner couples. Twelve participants provided in-depth interview data that were analysed according to Spradely's ethnographic method. We present three main themes in our research, as well as ten smaller themes: (i) the grandchild-rearing motive (from the perspective of the adult, the child, the grandchild, and the grandmother); (ii) the mode of grandchild-rearing support (residential, total weight of childrearing support, availability of a daycare center); (iii) the change in the grandmother's way of life (positive changes and negative changes). Finally, this study examines the integrity of the grandmother's identity as their productivity increases through providing grandchild-rearing support. It also looks at the importance of governmental policies that support their burdens according to the level support they provide.

The Portrayal of the Image of Women in Cosmetic Advertisements

  • The purpose of this study is (1) to investigate how women's visual images in cosmetic magazine advertisements have changed over time and (2) to examine whether women's images in advertisements have changed in regards to the symbolic ambiguity of dress and appearance styles according to the time period. Social identity theory was used as the theoretical framework to understand the change of gender identity and physical appearance. The two magazines of Vogue and Working Woman were selected for the years of 1981, 1991, and 2001. The findings of the study showed that women's make-up colors portrayed in cosmetics magazine advertisements changed from artificial to natural over 20 years and messages in cosmetics magazine advertisement changed from a focus on attractiveness to a focus on skin-care and health. However, appearance styles of women in the advertisements analyzed were predominantly more feminine than masculine for the entire time period studied.

  • The purpose of voice color conversion is to change the speaker identity perceived from the speech signal. In this paper, we propose a new voice color conversion algorithm through the formant shifting and the spectrum-tilt modification in the frequency domain. The basic idea of this technique is to convert the positions of source formants into those of target speaker's formants through interpolation and decimation and to modify the spectrum-tilt by utilizing the information of both speakers' spectrum envelops. The LPC spectrum is adopted to evaluate the position of formant and the information of spectrum-tilt. Our algorithm enables us to convert the speaker identity rather successfully while maintaining good speech quality, since it modifies speech waveforms directly in the frequency domain.

Cloning of Melanin Concentrating Hormone cDNA Gene from Olive Flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) (넙치 (Paralichthys olivaceus)에서 멜라닌 농축 호르몬 cDHA 유전자의 클로닝)

  • Melanin concentrating hormone (MCH) regulating color change of fish skin was identified from brain cDNA library of Olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) during the analysis of Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs). Olive flounder MCH gene consisted of 598 nucleotides encoding 150 amino acids. Olive flounder MCH protein revealed to contain signal peptide of 19 amino acid residues, pro-MCH of 131 amino acids being processed to biologically active and mature form of hormone with 25 amino acid residues at the carboxyl terminus. A comparative structural analysis revealed that Olive flounder MCH precursor had low sequence identity with other fish species and mammalian counterparts, while the amino acid sequences of mature hormone had a relatively high identity and more conserved. RT-PCR analysis revealed that olive flounder MCH precersor gene was expressed spectically only in the brain and not in other tissues.

Hybridization in Digital Geometry (디지털 조형의 혼성적 특성연구)

  • The objective of this research is to suggest new geometric possibilities in digital architecture by investigating the characteristics of hybridization in digital geometry. The research begins with theoretical background research such as defining hybridization, investigating hybrid thinking, and studying the theory of digital geometry, along with the four conceptual characteristics of hybridization that could be drawn, such as temporality, liquidity, complexity, and connectivity. Based on these characteristics, the generative method of hybrid digital geometric languages such as Blob, Particle, Morph, Loft, and Boolean was analyzed with case research in contemporary digital architecture. As a result, diverse hybrid geometric keywords were extracted; these keywords suggest potential meanings of hybridization such as accidentality, mobility, diversity, and identity. Different elements represent the "mobility" in time by the force and wave, and they are "accidentally" combined in gradual change. The united species in "diverse" characters are seamlessly connected and emerge as a new "identity." The research maximizes the generative possibilities in digital geometry and provides a theoretical basis to apply the digital hybrid methods to architectural design by suggesting the potential meanings and possibilities in hybridization.

  • File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a protocol for transferring files between computers, FTPS with TLS, and SFTP based on similar SSH. The keynote to apply one-time password (OTP) has been diffused to resolve identity and password theft cases. In this paper, it has been confirmed that both data transmission and identity authentication using OTP at TLS level are possible without significant change in user client.

  • These days, universities are establishing new image; UI(University Identity) for them because of rapid change of education environment in 21st century, The objective of UI is expressing university's image externally and unifying members internally. In the process of establishing university's image, Symbol mark plays a key role in differentiating other universities because of its visual effect as well as enhancing self-confidence. In this study, I suggest that symbol mark is an important brand asset in point of differentiation and identification and analyze 36 domestic universities' symbol mark designs. In the way of this analysis, I classified these symbol marks in the aspect of shapes and colors and studied current design along with character of each symbol marks by examining usage of emblem. Therefore this paper will be used as a basic reference to understand domestic universities' symbol mark trend and to establishing differentiating strategy in the future.

The Typology of Gender Role Identity in Middle-aged Women using Q Methodology (중년기 여성의 성역할정체감에 대한 인식: Q방법론적 접근)

  • This study aims to contribute to our knowledge on gender role identity of middle-aged women within the Korean context. This research adapting Q methodology created a sampling distribution of P with 40 middle-aged women between 40-60 years old. We put each of 40 Q samples to become a forced distribution into 9 scales. And then we conducted a secondary analysis of the results from the principal component factor analysis by the PC QUANL program. Gender role identities of middle aged women were classified as four types: "affectionate-sensitive type", "affectionate-confident type", "assertive-confident type", and "sensitive-dominant type". Most of the middle-aged women in Korea tend to keep their original gender role identities. Some of women, however, experience the gender role identity change over time that their traits of traditional caring become more prominent than their affectionate character.
