  • This paper describes new on-line small signal stability assessment and its application using the time series simulated phasor measurement data. Using FFT technique and optimization method, the suggested method can effectively identify all of mode frequencies involved in measured data and calculate the damping ratio with accuracy.

  • The efficacy and its degradation of light emitting diode(LED) are related to its PN junction's temperature(Tj). Currently efficacy in certain temperature and thermo-resistant are defined for the depending. However, the definitions are quite inconvenient for lighting application.   • A simple model for RAM (Reliability, Availability and Maintainability) analysis and its computer code are developed for application to DUPIC fuel fabrication system. The approach is obtained by linking the allocation model (top-down method) to bottom-up method for RAM analysis. As a result, the availability requirement of subsystem, as well as the buffer storage requirement between processes, are evaluated for the DUPIC facility..

  • PMDSPH is a combined 3D particle-mesh and SPH code aimed to simulate the self-consistent dynamical evolution of spiral galaxies including live stellar and collisionless dark matter components, as well as an isothermal gas component. This paper describes some aspects of this code and shows how its application to the Milky Way helps to recover the gas flow within the Galactic bar region from the observed HI and CO longitude-velocity distributions.

  • A method of improving rudder effectiveness by applying a rotating cylinder to a rudder(so called "rotating-cylinder rudder") has been experimentally studied. Also, the improvements in ship's maneuvering characteristics with its application has been analytically evaluated. It has been shown that this improvement is significant.

  • Consumers require various quality characteristics including safety. The reduction of risk concerned on product safety becomes urgent issue in leading companies. The strategy for customer satisfaction by choosing attractive quality characteristic is not enough for risk reduction in view of producer. This paper presents a method for choosing quality characteristics and risk characteristics by integrating QFD based on quality requirements and AHP based on safety requirements, also shows its application for complex equipment.

  • RFID has been used as an identification tool substituting bar-code and its application areas are increasing due to its suitability in ubiquitous environment. This paper reviews RFID applications in some areas in which a serious amount of applications were reported such as material handling, physical distribution, and supply chain management of perishable products. The authors try to suggest research issues along with the limitations of RFID.

  • MIG or TIG welding has been the most popular welding process for joining aluminum alloy structures. However, porosity, hot crack and distortion were serious problems in inert gas fusion welding. Since FSW(Friction Stir Welding) was invented by TWI in 1991, it has been the powerful candidate for solving the problems of inert gas welding. In this paper, the principle and characteristics of FSW is introduced and its application to rolling stocks is presented to make basis for future development in production technology of aluminum rolling Stocks.
