  • We introduce a new copolymer alignment film made by bridge-building structure. It is a better film to decrease the image-sticking level in LCD displays. It is noted that the image-sticking was decreased by preventing ion mixing between inter-layers through high hardness. We have investigated the electrical characteristics such as pretilt angle, Residual DC, VHR by changing cure temperature and process delay time conditions of the new alignment film. In this paper, we have investigated the solution for the deep-rooted image defect and incidentally got a contrast ratio improvement by high anchoring force and hardness elevation through the new copolymer alignment film.

  • Background: Mutations of the FMS-like tyrosine kinase-3 (FLT3) receptor gene may promote proliferation via activation of multiple signaling pathways. FLT3-internal tandem duplication (FLT3-ITD) is the most common gene alteration found in patients diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) and has been associated with poor prognosis. Materials and Methods: We performed mutational analysis of exons 14-15 and 20 of the FLT3 gene in 54 AML patients using PCR-CSGE (conformational sensitive gel electrophoresis) followed by sequencing analysis to characterise FLT3 mutations in adult patients diagnosed with AML at Hospital USM, Kelantan, Northeast Peninsular Malaysia. Results: FLT3 exon 14-15 mutations were identified in 7 of 54 patients (13%) whereas no mutation was found in FLT3 exon 20. Six ITDs and one non-ITD mutation were found in exon 14 of the juxtamembrane (JM) domain of FLT3. FLT3-ITD mutations were associated with a significantly higher blast percentage (p-value = 0.008) and white blood cell count (p-value = 0.023) but there was no significant difference in median overall survival time for FLT3-ITD+/FLT3-ITD- within 2 years (p-value = 0.374). Conclusions: The incidence of FLT3-ITD in AML patients in this particular region of Malaysia is low compared to the Western world and has a significant association with WBC and blast percentage.

  • To customize individual characteristics of HRTF, a spherical model has been used for structural modeling technique. A pseudo-code of prolate spheroidal HRTF caused by incident acoustic point source is already developed, and it can be used a head shadow filter for structural modeling of HRTF. In this research, to see the necessity and efficiency of spheroidal head modeling, ITD optimization is performed on CIPIC HRTF database. From given cost function, ITD-optimized spheroidal head model, whose ITD information is the most matched version of measured ITD information, is found by varying head parameters subject by subject. By comparing results of ITD-optimized spheroids and ITD-optimized spheres, we concluded that a spherical head model is more efficient way of generating head shadow effect than a spheroidal head model does.

  • Background: We evaluated a sensitive and quantitative method utilizing fragment analysis of the fms-like tyrosine kinase 3-internal tandem duplication (FLT3-ITD), simultaneously measuring mutant allele burden and length, and verified the analytical performance. Methods: The number and allelic burden of FLT3-ITD mutations was determined by fragment analysis. Serial mixtures of mutant and wild-type plasmid DNA were used to calculate the limit of detection of fragment analysis, conventional PCR, and Sanger sequencing. Specificity was evaluated using DNA samples derived from 50 normal donors. Results of fragment analysis were compared to those of conventional PCR, using 481 AML specimens. Results: Defined mixtures were consistently and accurately identified by fragment analysis at a 5% relative concentration of mutant to wild-type, and at 10% and 20% ratios by conventional PCR and direct sequencing, respectively. No false positivity was identified. Among 481 AML specimens, 40.1% (193/481) had FLT3-ITD mutations. The mutant allele burden (1.7-94.1%; median, 28.2%) and repeated length of the mutation (14-153 bp; median, 49 bp) were variable. The concordance rate between fragment analysis and conventional PCR was 97.7% (470/481). Fragment analysis was more sensitive than conventional PCR and detected 11 additional cases: seven had mutations below 10%, three cases represented conventional PCR failure, and one case showed false negativity because of short ITD length (14 bp). Conclusions: The new fragment analysis method proved to be sensitive and reliable for the detection and monitoring of FLT3-ITD in patients with AML. This could be used to simultaneously assess ITD mutant allele burden and length.

  • The human auditory system has been shown to posses remarkable abilities in the localization and tracking of sound sources. The localization is the result of processing two primary acoustics cues. These are the interaural time difference(ITD) cues and interaural intensity difference(IID) cues at the two ears. In this paper, we propose TEPILD(Time Energy Previous Integration Location Detector) model. TEPILD model is constructed with time function generator, energy function generator, previous location generator and azimuth detector. Time function generator is to process ITD and energy function generator is to process IID. Total average accuracy rate is 99.2%. These result are encouraging and show that proposed model can be applied to the sound source location detector.

  • The FLT3-ITD mutation is one of the most frequent genetic abnormalities in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) where it is associated with a poor prognosis. The FLT3-ITD mutation could, therefore, be a potential molecular prognostic marker important for risk-stratified treatment options. We amplified the FLT3 gene at exon 14 and 15 in 52 AML patients (aged between 2 months and 74 years) from 4 referral centers (a university hospital and 3 regional hospitals in Northeast Thailand), using a simple PCR method. FLT3-ITD mutations were found in 10 patients (19.2%), being more common in adults than in children (21.1% vs. 14.3%) and more prevalent in patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia (AML-M3) than AML-non M3 (4 of 10 AML-M3 vs. 6 of 42 AML-non M3 patients). Duplication sequences varied in size-between 27 and 171 nucleotides (median=63.5) and in their location. FLT3-ITD mutations with common duplication sequences accounted for a significant percentage in AML patients in northeastern Thailand. This simple PCR method is feasible for routine laboratory practice and these data could help tailor use of the national protocol for AML.

  • The mersurements of the inter outer canthal distance (IOCD), inter inner canthal distance(IICD), inter temporal distance (ITD), length palpebral fissure (LPF) and inter pupilly distance(PD) were followed in 852 healthy Korean from 7 to 13 years old. The change of average dimension was 6 mm in PD and 20 mm in ITD during primary school, and then grow up to the dimension of adult. The dimension of ITD and LPF in female was larger than male from 8 to 10 years old. The dimension of LPF increased by change of IOCD more than IICD.

  • In this paper, equalization zone of two crosstalk cancellation (CC) schemes, which are the one based on only head related transfer function (HRTF) and the other one based on interaural intensity/time difference (ITD/IID) as well as HRTF is studied. To do this, the condition numbers and ITD/IID levels of two schemes are shown.
