This study focused on the determining factors of foreign workers employment in Korean companies. To improve our national enterprise's work outcome, it is necessary to establish a rational employment management policy plan so that the Korea can promote influx of foreign workers who have appropriate job skills and are hard-working and well suited for cultural environment. Accordingly, the companies need to develop the program by considering following. First, the duty of skilled foreign workers for employment is an important determinant factor and thus the targeting for foreign workers is necessary to proceed with pre-paced training. Second, reflecting the cultural characteristics of migrant workers, a cultural adjustment program needs to be developed. In this regard, the national program of screening foreign workers at the government level and the adaptation program needs to be launched suitable for local environment.
As S. Korea is becoming an "aged society", workers in the country would be exposed to higher risk of workplace injuries due to their reducing work abilities as they are getting old. To identify the relationship between the work ability and the incident rate of workplace injuries, the work ability index (WAI) scores were surveyed from 409 workers occupied in different manufacturing industries reside on north GyoengBuk area. The workplace injury statistics in the year of 2010 for the corresponding industries were analyzed and summarized with the WAI scores by age groups, years of service, and sizes of business. The results showed the WAI scores of the workers occupied in the higher risk of workplace injury was lower than that of the workers of the lower risk. It means the lower the WAI score, the higher the chance of being injured during the task. It is concluded that appropriate correlation exists between the WAI scores of workers and the incident rate of workplace injury. It is recommended to administrate individual work abilities of aged workers in order to keep low rate of workplace injuries in upcoming aged and highly aged society.
The purpose of this study is to grasp foreign worker's industrial safety and health state, which find out the improvement to secure the basic safety net for foreign workers. We have investigated 2,050 workers through direct interviews during the period from April 12, 2010 to May 31, 2010. And the result of analysis, foreign worker's daily average working time is 10.6 hours(40.8% workers in total work 10~12 hours), the extent of exposure to harmful and dangerous working environment is 'the position which cause pain in neck, waist, hands, shoulders, legs'(69.3%), 'repetitive hands and arms movement'(66.1%). It showed 'experience of accident damage or disease related work'(27.3%), 'never apply for industrial accident compensation' is revealed high at 73%. As a result of completing a safety health education for a year, it showed 'never educated'(40.2%), 'the institute that foreign workers have used for help and advice is the foreign worker's support center'(61.9%) Thus, hiring foreign workers in the company are small in site, the environment is too harmful and dangerous. In addition, no safety and health managers, legally blind spot located in the health and safety, because it is an urgent meet for these measures to improve.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the job performance and educational needs, and recognition of professionalism among care workers, and to organize educational programs according to the priorities of care workers. Methods: The participants were 119 care workers who were working in long-term care facilities. Data were collected from May 31 to June 7, 2019 using self-report questionnaires. Collected data were analyzed using t-tests, ANOVA, and Spearman's Correlation Coefficients. Results: The performance aspects of the job were as follows: care for safety and infection-related, communication and leisure support, and excretion. The most demanded educational needs were in first-aid. Care workers had more than average professional recognition. Job performance and educational needs, and recognition of professionalism differed significantly according to several general characteristics. Conclusions: The educational needs of the areas with low frequency of job performance were high. First-aid is low in frequency, but it is important to cope with emergencies, so it is necessary to continue education. Also, there is a difference in recognition of professionalism according to the career. It will be necessary to develop individualized education programs to meet the needs of care workers.
Background: Due to an increasing number of workers aged 50 years and above, the number of those employed is also on the rise, and those workers aged 50 and over has exceeded 50% of the total fatal occupational injuries. Therefore, it is necessary to implement the selection and concentration by identifying the characteristics of high-risk groups necessary for an effective prevention against and reduction of fatal occupational injuries. Methods: This study analyzed the characteristics of high-risk groups and the occupational injury fatality rate per 10,000 workers among the workers aged 50 and over through a multi-dimensional analysis by sex, employment status of workers, industry and occupation by targeting 4,079 persons who died in fatal occupational injuries from January 2007 to December 12. Results: The share of the workers aged 50 years and above is increasing every year in the total fatal occupational injuries occurrence, and the high-risk groups include 'male workers' by sex, 'daily workers' by worker's status, 'craft and related-trades workers' by occupation, and 'mining' by industry. Conclusion: The most frequent causal objects of fatal occupational injuries of the workers aged 50 years and above are found out to be 'installment and dismantlement of temporary equipment and material on work platforms including scaffold' in the construction industry and 'mobile crane, conveyor belt and fork lifts' in the manufacturing industry.
Objectives : Oral care is important for workers and Korean adults to improve the quality of life and perform economic activities. This study was conducted to prepare the basic data to establish the management system for adult oral health by looking into characteristics by ages and the genders questingly. Methods : Oral health examination was conducted on workers in 2009 in the city of Gwangju and Chonnam province. This analysis was extracted using SPSS(SPSS 12.0 for windows, SPSS Inc, Chicago, USA). Results : Among the study respondents, 39.5% workers and 47.7% Korean adults answered their subjective oral health is not good, but there was no statistically significant difference between them(p< $0.001^{***}$). 39.9% workers and 2 0.6% Korean adults were smokers, and they showed a statistically significance in the ages and genders (p< $0.001^{***}$). 91.2 %workers and 49.8% Korean adults brushed their teeth before going to bed, and they showed a statistically significance in the ages and genders(p< $0.001^{***}$). In terms of the gender, male workers and Korean female adults showed high frequency of use, and both workers and Korean adults aged 18-24 showed high frequency with regard to the age. Regarding the use of oral care items, 36.0% workers and 16.9% Korean adults used them, and a statistical significance was shown in both the gender and age(p< $0.001^{***}$). In terms of the gender, female workers and Korean female adults showed high frequency of use and in terms of the age, 45-54 age bracket workers and 30-34age bracket Korean adults used the items frequently. 28.0% workers and 30.7% Korean adults answered that their mastication among oral functions is uncomfortable, and 8.8% workers and 6.5% Korean adults responded that it is hard to pronounce. They were statistically significant in the gender and age(p< $0.001^{***}$). Workers and Korean female adults expressed their mastication discomfort and men expressed that they have a difficulty in pronouncing. In terms of the age, the 54-64 age bracket workers and Korean adults express their inconvenience of mastication and pronunciation. Conclusions : According to the above findings, it needs to build the economical and efficient adult oral health care system in order to enhance both workers and Korean adults' oral health.
The work-man's Uniform should be coincident with the image of his firm and accounted of the function according s its purpose. We made questions to 404 workers at 8firm in our country through the questionnaire papers to know about a work-man's uniform and researched whether the satisfactory in wearing his uniform had relation with his type of business, grade, carrier, age, marriage, and monthly income. The results of this study is as follows; 1. In the case of wearing the uniform many workers answered they always wore their uniform in the firm. It was shown that the office workers wore their uniform much more than workers in the production department. The longer the time working, the older age, the lower grade of school career are, he more workers wear. the order of the importance for he uniform was the function, the symbol, the originality, and the fashion. The longer their career in the firm was, the more important the function of their uniform was. 2. The order of dirty pat in taking care of the uniform was cuffs, color, the front of part in an upper garment and below the knee, the hip in pants It was very easy for the workers in the experts, or administrators and office workers than others to be dirty in the cuffs part of the uniform. Worn part of the uniform showed highest cuffs in an upper garment and a zipper in pants. The order of cleaning the uniform was washing by water, no ironing, and cleaning in their house.
The driving force of the manufacturing field is members' mind-set and activity. However, there is no appropriate program of change management for workers who work in the manufacturing field. Most of the small group activities were focused on the fixed tools and processes to make improvement only, not the change itself. Therefore, it was difficult to have self generating energy without actually motivating people of change. Study of IFI(Integrated Field Innovation) means change of management. This study will introduces IFI which is a new methodology of change and innovation of workers, and will describe how workers participated in the activities voluntarily. The principle of IFI is that letting employees to find the problems of the sites -anything that makes employees considering as the problem while they are working- and solve those problems through any tools own their own. Workers do not have to waste their time on bounding by unnecessary tools and processes. There are several cases that company "D" has been actually applied the IFI methodology in 2008. Through these cases, IFI proved that it was a optimized methodology for workers who work in the manufacturing field.
Workers on construction sites are exposed to multiple and varied threats. Of those, climatic factors such as high/low air temperatures and high/low humidity have a bad mental and physical health effect on workers. Especially, work in hot environment has a tendency to cause fatigue, reduce productivity and increase the incidence of accident. So, the purpose of this research was to understand working clothes and working environment of workers at a construction site in summer. The depth interview was performed by 45 workers of 4 different construction sites and the results were as follows. Workers wore average 4 items as clothing(upper, lower) and average 5 items as personal protective equipments(PPEs). They answered "head" is the hottest body area and must be protected during working. This means the necessity of development in safety hat. In addition, it should be developed working clothes and gaiters for alleviating heat stress and safety shoes for diminishing weight. It is expected that this research plays basic and important rolls to develop PPEs for reducing the heat stress of construction workers.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to measure patient satisfaction among injured workers and determine the factors that affect satisfaction of the hospital services. Methods: The subjects of this study were 231 injured workers hospitalized in I WC Hospital and D WC Hospital located in one of the major cities in Korea, all of whom agreed to participate in this research. The questionnaires were selected as literature suggested for explaining satisfaction of the hospital services, general characteristics of injured workers, characteristics of the hospital services. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, multiple regression analysis by SPSS/WIN 18.0. Results: The patient satisfaction level is at 3.2 point, which is lower than general patient satisfaction in previous study. There were significant differences in satisfaction scores, depending on the gender, degree of medical treatments, the specialty of medical team, staff's kindness, medical treatment process, the cleanliness of hospital and the convenience of facilities. It was found that the patient satisfaction among injured workers is affected by the characteristics of the hospital services. Conclusion: It is necessary to promote medical facilities, specialization of doctors and nurses, staff's kindness, medical treatment process and hospital cleanliness for developing Workers' Compensation hospital services.
