1996년 ISO 14000의 공표는 그 동안 생산성에만 치중한 세게 각국 기업들의 기업 활동으로 기인된 환경오염문제를 해결할 수 있는 유용한 도구가 되고 있으며, 이를 통해 산업계에 환경경영체제 구축의 결정적 계기가 되었다. 한편 지구환경을 보호하기 위해서 시작된 제도이지만 국제무역거래에도 영향을 미치는 중요한 요소로도 등장했다. ISO 14000규격을 제정한 이래 국제적으로 인증 기업의 수는 증가 일로에 있다. 특히 최근에 증가추세가 현저히 나타나고 있으며 이러한 현상은 세계적으로나 한국에 있어서도 공통적으로 나타나고 잇다. 환경친화성이 확보되지 않고서는 국내시장은 물론 해외시장에서도 경쟁력을 확보하기 어렵기 때문이다. ISO 14000의 인증 획득은 기업의 환경친화적 경영을 통한 환경성과 경쟁력확보의 수단으로 자리잡아가고 있다. 환경경영체제 인증의 획득여부가 기업의 지속적 성장과 직결된다는 것을 국제적 동향을 통해서 알 수 있었다. 또한 환경경영체제 인증 획득에 소요되는 비용 부담보다는 인증 획득과 환경경영에서 오는 장점을 고려해야 할 때임을 기업사례를 통해 이해할 수 있었다. 환경문제에 대한 기업의 자세는 환경보전과 기업이윤 사이를 상충관계로 보는 고정관념에서 탈피, 환경경영을 위한 투자가 비용이 아니라 기업의 가치를 높이고 기회를 제공한다는 투자의 의미로 정착해가야 할 것이다. 본 논문은 ISO 14000의 그 의미와 도입 실태, 국제적 동향, 그리고 ISO 14001을 도입하여 실제운용하고 있는 기업의 사례를 통한 효과분석을 통해서 우리나라 기업의 환경경영체제에 대한 그간의 소극적 자세에서 적극적자세로의 전환을 유도할 뿐 만 아니라 환경경영체제 인증을 확산시키고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다.

This research topic evaluates the effectiveness and importance of environmental protection in the 21st century in light of the increasing demand on the earth's natural resources and the pressures on economic and industrial development to provide dynamic power. As the world and our fellow citizens become more conscious of environmental protection, companies are under greater pressure whilst pursuing economic growth. Therefore, domestic manufacturers have been devoting efforts to promote environmental management. This research conducts survey using questionnaires on the operational performance of the manufacturers who have ISO 14000 series accreditation and certification. The survey considers five dimensions/functions within a manufacturer, financial management, human resources management, production management, and marketing management. A total of 35 indices are used for analysis of the effects that the location, history, industry, number of employees, amount of capital, and revenue may have on the performance. This research targets the manufacturers approved of ISO 14000 series certification by Environment Administration Association. The statistical methods deployed are descriptive statistics, T-test, and single factor analysis of variance used for analysis. The conclusions reveal that a certain level of performance has been achieved in every dimension. After T-test, all the indices have reached a significant level. The indications are that ISO 14001 benefits all manufacturers the level of benefits however varies from company to company.

한국환경산업기술원이 2015년 탄소성적표지 주 개정사항을 비롯해 탄소성적표지 인증, 인증 업무 등에 관한 규정을 담은 탄소성적표지 인증안내서를 발행했다. 본 고에서는 ISO 14000s와 탄소성적표지와 관련해 표준규격, 전과정관련 표준규격 등에 대해 살펴보도록 한다.

환경이 중요한 문제로서 의식되어짐에 따라 제품이나 서비스에 환경에 관한 정보를 표시하여 소비자에게 전달하기 위하여 다수의 환경라벨링이 등장하게 되었다. 기존의 환경경영체제들은 대부분의 기업의 자발적인 참여에 토대를 두고 있으나 제3자의 인증을 요구하고 있는 환경경영체제는 국내외에서 기업의 시장지배력에 커다란 영향을 미칠 것으로 예상된다.

ISO에서 국제표준을 제정하는데 소요되는 기간은 회원국의 경제적 여건이나 산업구조에 따라 어느 정도 영향을 받고 있으나, 일반적으로 ISO의 각 기술위원회에서 국제표준을 제정하여 공표하기까지 대부분 5년 이내에 작업을 종결하는 것을 원칙으로 하고 있다. 작업과정은 제안, 준비, 위원회, 승인, 공표 등 다섯 단계를 거친다.

The main step for many multinational corporations when initiating an environmental management system is the formulation and implementation of an environmental audits aimed at identifying environmental problems requiring remedial action. Environmental management systems such as BS 7750 and the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme offer an opportunity to enhance environmental performance and assess the quality of management system is the availability of inhouse environmental expertise, which can be provided through training programmers.
