Effect of ISO 9000 Certification on the Small & Medium Business in Busan (부산 지역 중소기업의 ISO 9000 인증효과분석)

  • ISO 9000 is an efficient quality system for the customer's confidence and satisfaction. Of late years, the revised edition of ISO 9000 quality management system may give lots of positive business values to companies running ISO 9000 system. Despite its tremendous popularity, there is some criticism against the effect and performance of ISO 9000 certification. This research explores the performances and effects of ISO 9000 quality system in small & medium size industrial companies. For this research, 202 companies certified by ISO 9000 standard and 67 companies not certified as contrast group were selected. The related data were collected by web-poll survey. The major analyses are focused on the effect and performance of the ISO 9000 certification, and we established various hypotheses to verify the effect and performance of quality system. Results of statistical analyses show that total performance of quality system is significantly different between certified companies and not certified.

  • ISO 9000 is a series of several standards(ISO 8402, 9000, 9001, 9002, 9003, 9004,...). ISO 9000 is a standard explaining fundamental concepts, defining important terms, and providing guidance for selecting among the other standards. ISO 9001, the most comprehensive standard to ensure quality in design, development, production, installation, and servicing. ISO 9002 is used to assure conformance to specification, installation and servicing. ISO 9003 has the least requirement among three standards and applies to inspection and final testing. ISO 9004 is a standard developed for internal use only and not applicabe to contractual arrangements. In this paper, quality system requirements for ISO 9000 series are also specified.

  • As more and more companies pursue ISO 9000 certification, one of the most misconceptions about ISO 9000 is that registration is necessary only for business. ISO 9000 is being driven by commercial requirements, not legal fiat. This registration can be used as evidence of compliance to the ISO 9000 to satisfy specific customer requirements. The primary objective of this research is to provide the efficient implementation process of ISO 9000 certification on the basis of total quality management concerning with ISO/CDl 9001:2000, ISO/CDl 9004:2000 and ISO/CD2 9001:2000. Based on the result of first paper in May 1999, this study has been conducted using the data collected from 312 manufacturing companies which registered ISO 9000 certification. This analysis can be applied to Korean small and medium industrial companies in establishing and maintaining the development of qualify systems. The companies should be able to benefit if they make continuous effort to improve the quality activities based on the factors suggested in this paper.

  • Three big U.S. automakers have developed the QS-9000 quality system for their su, pp.iers. These automakers are requiring their su, pp.iers to implement the QS-9000 based quality system. This QS-9000 system is based upon the ISO 9000 series quality systems. This paper describes the differences between the ISO 9000 series requirements and the QS-9000 requirements. It also suggests the way to implement the QS-9000 quality systems for Korean su, pp.iers.

  • Many of companies all over the world have been certified ISO 9000 which is customer focused since last ten 10 years, and industrial sector specific certifications have been developed, such as QS-9000 and ISO/TS 16949 which are specific requirements added to ISO 9000 for the automotive industrial sector. Requirements addressed in ISO 9000, QS-9000 and ISO/TS 16949 are considered to be significant. And I think that requirements for reliability elements such as Design FMEA, Process FMEA and Gage R&R are very important. I sincerely hope that my study for requirements for reliability elements to be helpful to individual, companies and related association. There should be a lot of requirements in related with reliability in other industrial sectors and I am planning to study on it continuously.

  • Modern stage must offer to the level which the customer requests the quality of the information service to offer from the information center. We are the one view which needs new system management around the process serving this. This study accomplished theoretical review of ISO 9000 as International Quality Management System. investigated the trend for change of ISO 9000 certification systems. We analyzed the recognition level of members about the introduction of ISO 9000 quality management systems in the information center. The level up of recognition about ISO 9000 quality management system certification systems was the low in the information center. Hereafter, We grasped the subject of ISO 9000 certification systems which the introduction needs. We reviewed ISO 9000 family which the Library and Information center possible apply and presented the requirement in the library and information center with the process to need for a Quality Management System certification.

  • The chemical industry has been a leader in the number of registrations for many decades. The big chemical companies in Korea were clearly committed to ISO 9000 and had strong senior management support. However, not many people in the chemical industry are familiar with ISO 9000 and understand how to develop a ISO 9000 quality manual and how to organize a campaign to get the ISO 9000 registration. The purpose of this paper is to briefly summarize the key concerns of chemical companies and how companies can address those concerns and conform to the various elements of the ISO 9000 standards. The case studies of two domestic and foreign companies in establishing ISO 9000 quality system are also discussed.

  • As more and more companies pursue ISO 9000 certification, the adaptation of ISO 9000 has brought about some significant positive effects to domestic quality systems However, somenegative results occurred in domestic industries rushing to fulfill the requirements of these new quality systems. The primary objective of this research is to provide the efficient implemen tation process of ISO 9000 certification on the basis of total quality management concerning with ISO/ DIS 9000:2000, ISO/ DIS 9001:2000, ISO/DIS 9004:2000. this study has been conducted using the data collected from 325 Korean small and medium manufacturing companies which registered ISO 9000 certification in March 2000. The first, the adoption of a quality manage ment system needs to be a strategic decision of the organization. The design period of the adoption of a quality management system is influenced by the size of the organization, the products process, KS certification, the rate of management.
