  • A design method is proposed for the sequence detection with fixed decision delay with less hardware complexity using the concept of the Voronoi diagram and its dual, the Delaunay tessellation. This detector design is based on the Fixed Delay Tree Search (FDTS) detection. The FDTS is a computationally efficient sequence detection algerian and has been shown to achieve near-optimal performance in the severe Intersymbol Interference (ISI) channels when combined with decision feedback equalization and the appropriate channel coding. In this approach, utilizing the information contained in the Voronoi diagram or equivalently the Delaunay tessellation, the relative location of the detector input sequence in the multi-dimensional Euclidean space is found without any computational redundancy, which leads to a reduced complexity implementation of the detector.

  • In this paper, proposed is the dual-mode algorithm of blind decision feedback equalizer (DFE) for digital terrestrial television signals. According to channel impairments, the proposed dual-mode algorithm for blind DFE operates in decision-directed mode or in blind mode of operation. The error signals being used in tap update of the equalizer are generated in the best mode of operations, so that the confidence of equalizer tap coefficient update is more accurate. As a result, it is possible to track the channel characteristics variations by automatic switching over between two modes of operations. For 8-level vestigial sideband modulated digital television signals, the mean square errors and symbol error rates of the proposed algorithm are compared with those of conventional methods. And the usability of the proposed scheme is assessed by computer simulations under various static and dynamic multipath channel environments.

  • Wireless mobile networks tend to drop a large portion of packets due to propagation errors rather than congestion. To Improve reliability over noisy wireless channels, wireless networks can employ forward error correction (FEC) techniques. Static FEC algorithms, however, can degrade the performance by poorly matching their overhead to the degree of the underlying channel error, especially when the channel path loss rate fluctuates widely. This paper investigates the benefits of an adaptable FEC mechanism for wireless networks with severe packet loss by analytical analysis or measurements over a real wireless network called sensor network. We show that our adaptive FEC named FECA (FEC-level Adaptation) technique improves the performance by dynamically tuning FEC strength to the current amount of wireless channel loss. We quantify these benefits through a hybrid simulation integrating packet-level simulation with bit-level details and validate that FECA keeps selecting the appropriate FEC-level for a constantly changing wireless channel.

  • Signals in an underwater channel get distorted by multipath propagation. In this paper, pre-coding method is suggested which helps comprehending the signals with minimum equalization. The signals are transformed based on the knowledge of the impulse response of the channel. Proposed pre-coding method is tested by simulations based on the ray theory and through water tank experiments. In weak multipath environment, in case of an SNR of about 20 dB, BER is $10^{-3}{\sim}10^{-4}$, while in strong multipath environment, similar BER is achieved with SNR of about 30 dB. In order for the pre-coding method to be used for underwater vehicles, channel prediction method utilizing the waveguide invariant is suggested and tested.

  • The performance of underwater acoustic(UWA) communication system is sensitive to the Inter-Symbol Interference(ISI) due to delay spread develop of multipath signal propagation. And due to limited frequency using acoustic wave, UWA is a low transmission rate. Thus, it is necessary technique of Space-time code, equalizer and channel code to improve transmission speed and eliminate ISI. In this paper, UWA communication system were analyzed by simulation using these techniques. In the result of simulation, the proposed Turbo Equalization method based on layered Space Time Codes has improved performance compared to conventional UWA communication.

  • Energy spreading transform (EST) based modulation is an effective technique to combat frequency-selective fading in broadband wireless communication. It performs close to the inter-symbol interference (ISI)-free matched filter bound (MFB) only at the complexity of a linear detector. Originally, EST-based modulation has been proposed for QPSK. However, to fully utilize the capacity of multipath fading channels, higher-order modulations are also necessary. In this paper, we review the EST based modulation that has originally been proposed for QPSK and discuss its extension to 8 PSK and 16 QAM. The performance of the extended system is verified through simulation in Proakis B and 8-tap fading channel. The EST based modulation for 8 PSK shows the performance which is very close to MFB and the EST based modulation for 16 QAM shows the performance gap between its receiver and MFB.

  • This paper relates with the VSS-MMA (Variable Step Size-Multiple Modulus Algorithm) adaptive equalization algorithm which is possible to improving the equalization performance by use the nonlinear fuction of error signal in the MMA adaptive equalization algorithm that are used for the minimization of the intersymbol interference due to the distortion which occurs in the time dispersive channel for the transmission of QAM signal in the system.. In the conventional MMA, we obtains the tap coefficient of adaptive equalizer using the fixed step size, but in the VSS-MMA, we obtains the tap coefficient of adaptive equalizer using the variable step size based on a nonlinear function of error signal. By adapting the variable step size, it was confirmed that the improved equalization performance were obtained by computer simulation. For this, the equalizer output signal constellation, residual isi, maximum distortion, MSE and SER were used in the performace index.

  • Bit patterned media (BPM) storage is one of the promising technologies to overcome the limitations of the conventional magnetic recording. However, there are some problems in a high areal density BPM storage, inter-track interference, inter-symbol interference and noise which are severely degrading performance of the system with reducing the bit error rate. In this paper, we present a simple iterative two-dimensional equalizer based on the contraction mapping theorem to mitigate these adverse effects. Furthermore, we examine that the channel characteristics of the proposed two-dimensional equalizer satisfies the convergence conditions. In the simulation we demonstrate the bit separation characteristics of the one-dimensional equalizer and the two-dimensional equalizer and evaluate the BER performance of the proposed equalizer comparing with the conventional equalizers. According to the results of experiments, the proposed equalizer is an promising equalizer with maintaining proper complexity for a high areal density BPM storage.

  • Disinfection is a basic and effective microorganism inactivation method and historically contributed a decrease in waterborne diseases. To guarantee the disinfection ability, improving T in CT value is important. Many indexes are used to estimate the hydraulic efficiency, however, these are black-box analysis. Therefore it is need to develope new estimation method. In this study, internal short-circuiting estimation method (ISEM) is developed using CFD and we inquire into the factor which causes increase of $T_{10}/T$ value as LW ratio increases. And the effect of shape on the relation of LW ratio and $T_{10}/T$ is analyzed. As LW ratio increases, internal short-circuiting index (ISI) of influent and effluent zone is rapidly reduced and recirculation and dead zone are reduced in channel zone. Therefore, as the $T_{10}/T$ value converges maximum value, ISI curve is changed from "V" shape to "U" shape and hydraulic efficiency is improved especially in downstream portion of clearwell. The less the shape ratio(width/length of clearwell) is the less the $T_{10}/T$ value is at a same LW ratio because the portion of turning zone increases as shape ration decreases, therefore more boundary separation is generated.

  • In this paper, the reception performance of spatial modulation multiple-output multiple-input (MIMO) is analyzed for high speed terrestrial broadcasting. The MIMO scheme is required to reduce the inter symbol interference (ISI) and spatial correlation. The spatial modulation scheme solves the problem of ISI, but the spatial correlation degrades the reception performance of SM scheme. The space-time block coded spatial modulation (STBC-SM) is combined the SM system with space-time block code (STBC) for reducing the effects of the spatial correlation. However, the STBC-SM scheme degrades the spectral efficiency by transmitting same data in the two symbol period. The double space-time transmit diversity with spatial modulation (DSTTD-SM) scheme transmits the data with full antenna combination. To adapt these SM MIMO systems into the terrestrial broadcasting system, the reception performance is analyzed using computer simulation in SUI channel environments.
