A new iris segmentation and recognition method is described. Combining a statistical classification and elastic boundary fitting, the iris is first segmented robustly and accurately. Once the iris is segmented, one-dimensional signals are computed in the iris and decomposed into multiple frequency bands. Each decomposed signal is approximated by a piecewise linear curve connecting a small set of node points. The node points represent features of each signal. The similarity measture between two iris images is the normalized cross-correlation coefficients between simplified signals.
In this paper, we propose an iris recognition system using Homogeneous Texture descriptor of MPEG-7 standard. The texture of iris is generally used in iris recognition system. We segment the pupil with Hough transform and the boundary of iris with it's gray level difference between the white of the eye. To extract Homogeneous Texture descriptor, this iris image is transformed into polar coordinates. The extracted descriptor is then compared with the reference in DB. If their distance is larger than threshold, they are recognized as different iris. Test results will show that Homogeneous Texture descriptor can be a good measure for iris recognition system.
Image feature extraction is one of the basic works for biometric analysis. This paper presents the novel concept of application of ridgelets for iris recognition systems. Ridgelet transforms are the combination of Radon transforms and Wavelet transforms. They are suitable for extracting the abundantly present textural data that is in an iris. The technique proposed here uses the ridgelets to form an iris signature and to represent the iris. This paper contributes towards creating an improved iris recognition system. There is a reduction in the feature vector size, which is 1X4 in size. The False Acceptance Rate (FAR) and False Rejection Rate (FRR) were also reduced and the accuracy increased. The proposed method also avoids the iris normalization process that is traditionally used in iris recognition systems. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method achieves an accuracy of 99.82%, 0.1309% FAR, and 0.0434% FRR.
This paper describes a new iris segmentation and recognition method, which is robust to noises. Combining statistical classification and elastic boundary fitting, the iris is first segmented. Then, the localized iris image is smoothed by a convolution with a Gaussian function, down-sampled by a factor of filtered with a Laplacian operator, and quantized using the Lloyd-Max method. Since the quantized output is sensitive to a small shift of the full-resolution iris image, the outputs of the Laplacian operator are computed for all space shifts. The quantized output with maximum entropy is selected as the final feature representation. An appropriate formulation of similarity measure is defined for the classification of the quantized output. Experimentally we showed that the proposed method produces superb performance in iris segmentation and recognition.
Although iris recognition verification is considered to be the safest method of biometric verification, studies have shown that iris features may be illegally used. To protect iris features and further improve the security of iris recognition and verification, this study applies the Gaussian and Laplacian mechanisms and to hide iris features by differentiating privacy. The efficiency of the algorithm and evaluation of the image quality by the image hashing algorithm are selected as indicators to evaluate these mechanisms. The experimental results indicate that the security of an iris image can be significantly improved using differential privacy protection.
Iris recognition uses a unique iris pattern of user to identify person. In order to enhance the performance of iris recognition, it is reported that the diameter of iris region should be greater than 200 pixels in the captured iris image. So, the previous iris system used zoom lens camera, which can increase the size and cost of system. To overcome these problems, we propose a new method of enhancing the accuracy of iris recognition on low-resolution iris images which are captured without a zoom lens. This research is novel in the following two ways compared to previous works. First, this research is the first one to analyze the performance degradation of iris recognition according to the decrease of the image resolution by excluding other factors such as image blurring and the occlusion of eyelid and eyelash. Second, in order to restore a high-resolution iris image from single low-resolution one, we propose a new method based on multiple multi-layered perceptrons (MLPs) which are trained according to the edge direction of iris patterns. From that, the accuracy of iris recognition with the restored images was much enhanced. Experimental results showed that when the iris images down-sampled by 6% compared to the original image were restored into the high resolution ones by using the proposed method, the EER of iris recognition was reduced as much as 0.133% (1.485% - 1.352%) in comparison with that by using bi-linear interpolation
Iris recognition Is that identifies a user based on the unique iris muscle patterns which has the functionalities of dilating or contracting pupil region. Because it is reported that iris recognition is more accurate than other biometries such as face, fingerprint, vein and speaker recognition, iris recognition is widely used in the high security application domain. However, if unnecessary information such as eyelid and eyelash is included in iris region, the error for iris recognition is increased, consequently. In detail, if iris region is used to generate iris code including eyelash and eyelid, the iris codes are also changed and the error rate is increased. To overcome such problem, we propose the method of detecting eyelid by using pyramid searching parabolic deformable template. In addition, we detect the eyelash by using the eyelash mask. Experimental results show that EER(Equal Error Rate) for iris recognition using the proposed algorithm is lessened as much as $0.3\%$ compared to that not using it.

Objectives This study analyze the correlation between iris markings and the obesity level shown in body composition indices. And It quantitatively evaluates iris markings according to the level of obesity to improve a clinical application plan for the iris analysis. Methods This study analyzed the iris and body composition through the quantization of iris markings for 28 female patients. It calculated descriptive statistics by using SPSS 13.0 and investigated correlation coefficients of non-parametric Spearman in order to analyze the relation between iris markings and body composition indices. Results Considering the correlation between iris markings and body composition indices, an area of the pupil had a significant positive correlation with height and with fat-free amount such as body water, protein, and minerals. BMI showed significant positive correlations with the length of the autonomic nerve wreath and the ratio of the autonomic nerve wreath, and the area of the autonomic nerve wreath. Moreover, the number of lacunas in the pancrea area had a significant positive correlation with weight and BMI. Conclusions This study objectifies the quantification of iris markings to identify the correlation between iris markings and the level of obesity. The study results will be used as a basic data to make standards for the diagnosis of obesity, the treatment of related diseases, and the diagnosis of iris markings for prevention.

Iris recognition is a biometric technology that uses iris pattern information, which has features of stability, security etc. Because of this reason, it is especially appropriate under certain circumstances of requiring a high security. Recently, using the iris information has a variety uses in the fields of access control and information security. In extracting the iris feature, it is desirable to extract the feature which is invariant to size, lights, rotation. We have easy solutions to the problem of iris size and lights by previous processing but there is still problem of iris feature extract invariant to rotation. In this paper, To improve an awareness ratio and decline in speed for a revision of rotation, it is proposed that the iris recognition method using Zernike Moment and Daubechies Wavelet. At first step, the proposed method groups rotated iris into similar things by statistical feature of Zernike Moment invariant to a rotation, which shortens processing time of iris recognition and looks equal to an established method in the performance of recognition too. therefore, proposed method could confirm the possibility of effective application for large scale iris recognition system.

In this paper, we introduce a new technology to extract the unique features from an iris image, which uses scale-space filtering. Resulting iris code can be used to develop a system for rapid and automatic human identification with high reliability and confidence levels. First, an iris part is separated from the whole image and the radius and center of the iris are evaluated. Next, the regions that have a high possibility of being noise are discriminated and the features presented in the highly detailed pattern are then extracted. In order to conserve the original signal while minimizing the effect of noise, scale-space filtering is applied. Experiments are performed using a set of 272 iris images taken from 18 persons. Test results show that the iris feature patterns of different persons are clearly discriminated from those of the same person.
