We present the optical design and a sensitivity analysis for a wide field of view (FOV) instrument operating at UV and IR wavelengths. The ongoing investigation is performed in collaboration with Omnisys Instruments (Sweden) and focuses on a telluric-limb-viewing instrument that will fly in a low Earth orbit to study mesospheric wave structures over a wide range of horizontal scales in the altitude range 80 - 100 km. The instrument has six wavelength channels which consist of 4 channels of IR and 2 of UV. We are proposing an optical design based on three mirror aplanatic off-axis reflective system. The entrance pupil diameter and effective focal length are 45 mm and 270 mm, respectively. The FOV is $5.5^{\circ}{\times}1^{\circ}$ and the secondary mirror is set for stop. The optical specification is required to have an encircled energy of at least 80 % within a diameter of 21 um. We performed sensitivity analysis for the longest wavelength of 772 nm in consideration of the diffraction limit of system. The results show that tolerance limits for positions and angles of the mirrors are not very sensitive compared with typical error budgets of manufacturing and assembling process. The secondary mirror has the most sensitive tolerance for surface figure of 250 nm in root-mean-square.
Meteorological imager on the Multi-functional Transport Satellite (MTSAT-IR), which has been operating formally since 28 June 2005, was intercalibrated with a polar orbit satellite [Aqua Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (Aqua/MODIS)] as a well-calibrated instrument. The intercalibration method used in this study was developed by the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS). This was done for the infrared window channels. The differences of MTSAT-IR and MODIS were are -0.26 K for $11\;\mu m-IR$ window channel, 0.40 K for $12\;\mu m-IR$, window channel, and -0.67 K for $6.7\;\mu m-water$ vapor channel.

Infrared Scanning Near-field Optical Microscopy (IR-SNOM) is an extremely powerful analytical instrument since it combines IR spectroscopy's high chemical specificity with SNOM's high spatial resolution. In order to do this in the infrared, specialty chalcogenide glass fibers were fabricated and their ends tapered to generate SNOM probes. The fiber tips were installed in a modified near field microscope and both inorganic and biological samples illuminated with the tunable output from a free-electron laser located at Vanderbilt University. Both topographical and IR spectral images were simultaneously recorded with a resolution of ${\sim}50\;nm$ and ${\sim}100\;nm$, respectively. Unique spectroscopic features were identified in all samples, with spectral images exhibiting resolutions of up to ${\lambda}/60$, or at least 30 times better than the diffraction limited lens-based microscopes. We believe that IR-SNOM can provide a very powerful insight into some of the most important bio-medical research topics.
An Instrument to measure normal spectral emissivity is built using a Fourier Transform-Infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer. The instrument is composed of four main parts, reference blackbody, sample furnace, optics system, and FT-IR spectrometer. Measurement ranges of temperature and wavelength are $200^{\circ}C{\sim}500^{\circ}C$ and $3.5{\mu}m{\sim}20{\mu}m$, respectively. Measured emissivity of the reference blackbody is greater than 0.9993 with combined relative uncertainty less than 0.69%, which can be considered an ideal blackbody. We studied the emissivity of opaque alumina, graphite, anodized aluminum, and steel (IMS 200). It is shown that emissivity increases with the roughness of the steel (IMS 200) surface.

IR(Institutional Repository) is an indispensable instrument for not only long time preservation of intellectual products but also for shifting commercial publishing company-dominated academic communication stream. In Korea, dCollection project of Ministry of education, science and technology has contributed on immediate, integrated circulation of distributed research products. dCollection is already one of the few integrating instrument for distributed academic resources, but it has not been university's voluntary instrument to announce their research accomplishments and to realize open access. On the other hand, Japanese government has promoted universities' IR operation through "Next generation infrastructure construction project." Even though distributing speed is relatively low, each university made ripe operating skill by their selves and realize its own purpose. This study comparatively analyzed policy and current status of Institutional Repository in Korea and Japan from various viewpoints. And also it proposed directions of development about Korean Institutional Repositories.

PRA(Position Reporting Accuracy) for EO/IR(Electro-Optic/Infrared) airborne camera is an important factor in geo-pointing accuracy. Generally, rate table is used to measure PRA of gimbal actuated camera like EO/IR. However, it is not always possible to fix an EUT(Equipment for Under Test) to rate table due to capacity limit of the table on the size and weight of the object(EUT). Our EO/IR is too big and heavy to emplace on it. Therefore, we propose a new verification method of PRA for airborne camera and assess the validity of our proposition. In this method we use collimator, angle measuring instrument, 6 dof motion simulator, optical surface plate, leveling laser, inclinometer and poster(for alignment).
In this paper, a tolerance allocation method using Monte-Carlo simulation with measured reflective eccentricity for high-sensitive IR optics is proposed. During optics fabrication and alignment, reflective eccentricity was measured using an optical centration measurement instrument. A Monte-Carlo simulation was performed using measured eccentricity data, and it gives statistical estimated performance of the optics after fabrication. The validity of the proposed tolerance allocation method was verified comparing the estimated MTF result with the measured MTF result of the fabricated optics.
The Amon-Ra instrument is the main optical payload of the proposed EARTHSHINE satellite. It consists of a visible wavelength instrument and an IR energy channel instrument to measure a global Earth albedo. We report a new sensitivity technique for efficient alignment of the visible channel instrument. Whilst the sensitivity table method has been widely used in the alignment process, the straightforward application of the method tends to produce slow process convergence because of shop floor alignment practice uncertainties. We investigated the error sources commonly associated with alignment practices and used them when estimating the Zernike polynomial coefficients. Aided with single center field wavefront error (WFE) measurements and their corresponding Zernike polynomial coefficients, the method involves the construction and use of an experimental, instead of simulated, sensitivity table to be used for alignment state estimations. A trial alignment experiment for the Amon Ra optical system was performed and the results show that 71.28 nm in rms WFE was achieved only after two alignment iterations. This tends to demonstrate its superior performance to the conventional method.

The paper introduces the research area of interactive information retrieval (IIR) from a historical point of view. Further, the focus here is on evaluation, because much research in IR deals with IR evaluation methodology due to the core research interest in IR performance, system interaction and satisfaction with retrieved information. In order to position IIR evaluation, the Cranfield model and the series of tests that led to the Cranfield model are outlined. Three iconic user-oriented studies and projects that all have contributed to how IIR is perceived and understood today are presented: The MEDLARS test, the Book House fiction retrieval system, and the OKAPI project. On this basis the call for alternative IIR evaluation approaches motivated by the three revolutions (the cognitive, the relevance, and the interactive revolutions) put forward by Robertson & Hancock-Beaulieu (1992) is presented. As a response to this call the 'IIR evaluation model' by Borlund (e.g., 2003a) is introduced. The objective of the IIR evaluation model is to facilitate IIR evaluation as close as possible to actual information searching and IR processes, though still in a relatively controlled evaluation environment, in which the test instrument of a simulated work task situation plays a central part.
This study is on the fire resistance evaluation method, expecially on the toxicity of smoke gases generated from the fire, of materials for railway car and structures. Until now, Although international standard related to the quantifying evaluation method of smoke gas is provided but the specific procedure is not contained. On this reason, Test results of toxicity show deviation with the different technique being applied. For now, In advanced railway country, various instrument, like ion chromatography and etc., is used but FT-IR is recommended due to its lots of advantages. while FT-IR has a lot of strong points but still has some problems like water vapor interferences. In this paper, To improve credibility and repeatability of FT-IR it contains some technical solutions in quantifying the 8 toxic components.
