Obstacle Avoidance Method for Multi-Agent Robots Using IR Sensor and Image Information (IR 센서와 영상정보를 이용한 다 개체 로봇의 장애물 회피 방법)

  • This paper presents obstacle avoidance method for scout robot or industrial robot in unknown environment by using IR sensor and vision system. In the proposed method, robots share the information where the obstacles are located in real-time, thus the robots can choose the best path for obstacle avoidance. Using IR sensor and vision system, multiple robots efficiently evade the obstacles by the proposed cooperation method. No landmark is used at wall or floor in experiment environment. The obstacles don't have specific color or shape. To get the information of the obstacle, vision system extracts the obstacle coordinate by using an image labeling method. The information obtained by IR sensor is about the obstacle range and the locomotion direction to decide the optimal path for avoiding obstacle. The experiment was conducted in $7m{\times}7m$ indoor environment with two-wheeled mobile robots. It is shown that multiple robots efficiently move along the optimal path in cooperation with each other in the space where obstacles are located.

An overview of channel estimation for IR-UWB System (IR-UWB 시스템을 위한 채널 추정 기법)

  • Impulse Radio Ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) system employing the short pulse has the tolerable characteristics for the multipath environment. The corresponding transceiver with low power consumption can be simply implemented. On the other hand, in the receiver side, the precise channel estimation is required for the knowledge of essence in channel due to the short period of pulse. The estimated gains and delays in channel are used in the rake receiver. The resulting parameters we search have a strong influence on the performance in the entire system. We introduce that the essential parameters can be obtained more precisely through the preamble in receiver side for the channel estimation and related technologies are presented.

Implementation of Non-Contact Gesture Recognition System Using Proximity-based Sensors

  • In this paper, we propose the non-contact gesture recognition system and algorithm using proximity-based sensors. The system uses four IR receiving photodiode embedded on a single chip and an IR LED for small area. The goal of this paper is to use the proposed algorithm to solve the problem associated with bringing the four IR receivers close to each other and to implement a gesture sensor capable of recognizing eight directional gestures from a distance of 10cm and above. The proposed system was implemented on a FPGA board using Verilog HDL with Android host board. As a result of the implementation, a 2-D swipe gesture of fingers and palms of 3cm and 15cm width was recognized, and a recognition rate of more than 97% was achieved under various conditions. The proposed system is a low-power and non-contact HMI system that recognizes a simple but accurate motion. It can be used as an auxiliary interface to use simple functions such as calls, music, and games for portable devices using batteries.

  • 본 논문에서는 광학센서와 적외선 센서를 사용하는 Multi-sensor 시스템에서 영상 정보를 통한 물체의 추적 및 인식에 필요한 영상을 분리하는데 필요한 전처리와 object 기반의 추적 방법을 제안하였다. 일반적인 추적 알고리즘의 목표는 consistency를 유지하는데 있다. 그러나 인식에 필요한 영상을 분리하기 위해서는 물체의 범위를 정확히 판단 할 수 있는 능력이 중요하다. 이를 위해 CCD와 IR영상에 동시에 적용 가능한 전처리 기법과 object 기반의 two-step 추적 알고리즘을 통해 consistency외에도, 물체의 범위를 estimation하여 인식에 필요한 범위를 분리해 낸다. 본 논문에서는 ITS 의 ETCS application을 위해 이종 센서인 CCD와 IR의 야간 차량 영상정보를 이용하여 알고리즘을 test 하였다.

Quality Assurance on Dose Distribution of Ir-192 Line Source (Ir-192 선 선원의 선량분포에 관한 품질보증)

  • The propose of this study is a verification of the correct calculation of the dose around source and the prescription dose of Ir-192 source in the plato treatment planning system. The source and orthogonal coordinates for lateral direction and those for the anterior posterior direction were drawn on a A4 paper and then input into the system. The prescription dose was prescribed to two points with radius 1 cm in the direction of polar angle $90^{\circ} and $270^{\circ} from the center of the source. The doses of prescription point and dose points acquired from the treatment planning system were compared with those from manual calculation using the geometry function formalism derived by Paul King et al. In this analysis, the doses of prescription point were exactly consistent with each other and those of dose points were obtained within the error point of 1.85%. And the system of accuracy was evaluated within 2% of tolerance error. Therefore, this manual dose calculation used for the geometry function formalism is considered to be useful in clinics due to its convenience and high quality assurance.

  • Recently, very rapid development of computer and sensor technologies induces various kinds of user interface (UI) technologies based on user experience (UX). In this study, we investigate and develop a smart touch projector system technology on the basis of IR sensor and image processing. In the proposed system, a user can control computer by understanding the control events based on gesture of IR pen as an input device. In the IR image, we extract the movement (or gesture) of the devised pen and track it for recognizing gesture pattern. Also, to correct the error between the coordinate of input image sensor and display device (projector), we propose a coordinate correction algorithm to improve the accuracy of operation. Through this system technology as the next generation human-computer interaction, we can control the events of the equipped computer on the projected image screen without manipulating the computer directly.

Preparasion and Characterization of Chalcogenide Glass with IR-Transmittance (적외 광투과 Chalcogenide계 유리의 제조 및 특성)

  • Chalcogenide glasses having IR (8~12${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) transmittance were prepared and their densities, thermal and mechanical properties, IR-transmittances and chemical durabilities were determined. Glass transition temperatures (Tg) of Ge-As-Se, Ge-As-Se-Te and Ge-SE-Te system glasses were in the range of 280~3$65^{\circ}C$, 210~236$^{\circ}C$ and 210~26$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. Crystallization temperature (Tc) of Ge-Se-Te system glass was in the range of 305~40$0^{\circ}C$. Their thermal expansion coefficients($\alpha$) were in the range of 11.7~15.2$\times$10-6/K, 15.4~16.0$\times$10-6/K and 17.4~27.8$\times$10-6/K, respectively. Their MOR, hardness and fracture toughness were in the range of 15.2~18.6MPa, 36.1~58.2Kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$, 1.0~1.3 MPa.mm1/2, 18.9~24.9 MPa, 40.9~65.1Kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$, 1.3~1.5 MPa.mm1/2, and 24.1~30.8 MPa, 40.9~86.0Kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$, 1.4~1.8 MPa.mm1/2, respectively. IR transmittance of Ge-Se-Te system glass was about 60%. Ge-O extrinsic absorption peaks at 8, 12 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were significantly eliminated by the addition of Mg. Chemical durabilities in deionizied water of Ge-Se-Te system glass were good and IR-transmittances decreased with leaching time and temperature.

Survey of Electro-Optical Infrared Sensor for UAV

  • The rising demand for the high efficiency and high covertness in UAV motivates the miniature design of the high performing mission sensors, or payloads. One of the promising payload sensors, EO/IR sensor has evolved satisfying its demands and became the main stand-alone mission sensor for 200kg-range UAV. One aspect in development of EO/IR sensor concerns lack of specification criterions to represent its performance. Even though the high demand and competition among each manufacturer caused EO/IR features subject to rapid change collateral to new technology, the datasheets maintained the conventional outdated formats which leave some of the major components in ambiguity. Making comparisons or predicting actual performance with such datasheets is hardly worthwhile; yet, they could be important reference guide for the potential customers what to expect for the upcoming EO/IR. According to UAS Roadmap 2007-2032 published by DoD, one of the main potential customers as well as a main investor of EO/IR technology, EO/IR is expected to play key roll in solving urgent problems, such as see and avoid system. This paper will examine the recent representative EO/IR specialized in UAS missions through datasheets to find out current trend and eventually extrapolate the possible future trend.

Implementation and Verification of Dynamic Search Ranking Model for Information Search Tasks: The Evaluation of Users' Relevance Judgement Model (정보 검색 과제별 동적 검색 랭킹 모델 구현 및 검증: 사용자 중심 적합성 판단 모형 평가를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this research was to implement and verify an information retrieval(IR) system based on users' relevance criteria for information search tasks. For this purpose, we implemented an IR system with a dynamic ranking model using users' relevance criteria varying with the types of information search task and evaluated this system through user experiment. 45 participants performed three information search tasks on both IR systems with a static and a dynamic ranking model. Three Information search tasks are fact finding search task, problem solving search task and decision making search task. Participants evaluated top five search results on 7 likert scales of relevance. We observed that the IR system with a dynamic ranking model provided more relevant search results compared to the system with a static ranking model. This research has significance in designing IR system for information search tasks, in testing the validity of user-oriented relevance judgement model by implementing an IR system for actual information search tasks and in relating user research to the improvement of an IR system.

  • This paper presents a novel method which can detect a target in IR image for active protection system. The target in IR image for the active protection system is small, moreover it moves with enormous speed. The proposed algorithm is comprised of robust clutter rejection methods and target optimized detection algorithms for small target, and an advanced method of selecting a final target position in target area, it can work in some milliseconds. The proposed algorithm provides the active protective system with more correct positions than those of radar, so that helps the active protection system can defense all threats with the utmost precision.
