  • Due to the large-scale TV display, the convergence of broadcasting and broadband, and the advancement of signal compression and transmission technology, terrestrial digital broadcasting has evolved into UHD broadcasting capable of providing simultaneous broadcasting of fixed UHD and mobile HD. The Korean standard for terrestrial UHDTV broadcasting is based on ATSC 3.0, the broadcasting standard of North America. The terrestrial UHDTV broadcasting standard chose that as a new AV codec standard, HEVC video codec which can compress with higher efficiency compared to AVC, and MPEG-H 3D audio codec for realistic audio. Also, DASH and MMT are adopted as transmission format instead of MPEG-2 TS to support broadband as well as broadcasting network, and in order to provide 4K UHD/mobile HD service simultaneously ROUTE multiplexing technology is applied. In this paper, we propose an audio/video encoder, which is required to provide HDR/WCG supported high quality video service, 10.2 channel/4 object supporting stereo sound service, fixed UHD and mobile HD simultaneous broadcasting service based on ATSC3.0, also we implemented the ATSC 3.0 LDM system for ROUTE/DASH packager, multiplexing system and physical layer transmission/reception, and verified the service ability by applying it to real time broadcast environment.

Implementation of Control Point, Digital TV, and Light Controller Emulator on Embedded System Using UPnP Home Networking Control Middleware (홈 네트워킹 제어 미들웨어인 UPnP를 이용한 Control Point 및 내장형 시스템 상에서의 DTV와 전등 제어기 에뮬레이터 구현)

  • In this paper, we have implemented UPnP Devices which emulate a Control Point, a Light Controller, and a Digital TV. The Control Point has been developed on Linux host system by using C language. The UPnP Devices emulating the Digital TV and Light Controller are running on embedded linux developer board. For the development of UPnP Devices, UPnP SDK API Vl.04 made by Intel Co. Ltd. has been ported on Assabet Linux Reference board to implement the UPnP protocol. After we analyze and design some services of Digital TV device, we have applied UPnP Device program to those devices. UPnP SDK vl .04 consists of APIs which support HTTP, SSDP, SOAP, GENA and XML DOM Level-1 that are cores of UPnP protocol. The C program written for the UPnP Control Point has been compiled and executed on Linux-based PC. The embedded system running on Embedded Linux OS has been connected all together through Ethernet which allows IP-based communications. Under this environment, the UPnP programs are being executed on each device. Control Point, when in operational mode, discovers UPnP Devices on the network and displays the device list on the consol. By selecting one of the functionalities of the device services that are displayed on the Control Point, the controllability has been accomplished. The experiment that we performed in this thesis have revealed that the Control Point and UPnP Devices have supported the protocols including SSDP, SOAP, GENA, and DHCP.

Implementation of Smart Shopping Cart using Object Detection Method based on Deep Learning (딥러닝 객체 탐지 기술을 사용한 스마트 쇼핑카트의 구현)

  • Recently, many attempts have been made to reduce the time required for payment in various shopping environments. In addition, for the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, artificial intelligence is advancing, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices are becoming more compact and cheaper. So, by integrating these two technologies, access to building an unmanned environment to save people time has become easier. In this paper, we propose a smart shopping cart system based on low-cost IoT equipment and deep-learning object-detection technology. The proposed smart cart system consists of a camera for real-time product detection, an ultrasonic sensor that acts as a trigger, a weight sensor to determine whether a product is put into or taken out of the shopping cart, an application for smartphones that provides a user interface for a virtual shopping cart, and a deep learning server where learned product data are stored. Communication between each module is through Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, a Hypertext Transmission Protocol network, a You Only Look Once darknet library, and an object detection system used by the server to recognize products. The user can check a list of items put into the smart cart via the smartphone app, and can automatically pay for them. The smart cart system proposed in this paper can be applied to unmanned stores with high cost-effectiveness.

  • With the advent of Internet of Things (IoT) technology that allows the communications between things and devices over the Internet, a lot of researches on the IoT services, such as smart home or healthcare, have been progressed. In the existing machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, however, since the underlying link-layer technologies, such as Bluetooth or ZigBee, do not use the Internet Protocol (IP) communication, those technologies are not suitable to provide the IoT services. Accordingly, this paper discusses how to provide the Internet services in the M2M communication, and propose an implementation of the Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) over 6LoWPAN for providing IoT services in the BLE networks. Based on the implementation, we compared the performance between HTTP and CoAP for IoT communications. From the experimental results, we can see that the CoAP protocol gives better performance than the HTTP protocol with two times higher throughput, 21% faster transmission time, and 22% smaller amount of generated packets.

Optimized Route Optimization mode of MIPv6 between Domains Based on AAA (관리상의 도메인간 이동시 AAA 기반의 핸드오버 성능향상 방안)

  • When Mobile IPv6 is deployed in commercial network, a mobile node needs AAA services for an authentication, authorization and accounting. AAA and Mobile IPv6 are protocols which are operated independently. Then schemes which merge these protocols have been emerged. These schemes can enable a mobile node to establish a security association between the mobile node and a home agent and to perform a binding update for the home agent using AAA authentication request. But these schemes introduce many signal messages and long handover latency during the handover, since Route Optimization mode for Mobile Ipv6 is performed using Return Routability procedure. To solve this problem, we propose a scheme for Route Optimization mode that the home agent performs the binding update for a correspondent node via the AAA infrastructure between the home agent and the correspondent node instead of Return Routability procedure. For performance evaluation, we analyze signal message transmission costs and handover latencies during handover. We show performance improvement of the proposed scheme which reduces handover latency as 61% compared with the existing scheme.

An Extended Virtual LAM System Deploying Multiple Route Server (다중 라우트 서버를 두는 확장된 가상랜 시스템)

  • Virtual LAN (VLAN) is an architecture to enable communication between end stations as if they were on the same LAN regardless of their physical locations. VLAN defines a limited broadcast domain to reduce the bandwidth waste. The Newbridge Inc. developed a layer 3 VLAN product called VIVID, which configures a VLAN based on W subnet addresses. In a VIVID system, a single route server is deployed for address resolution, VLAN configuration, and data broadcasting to a VLAN. If the size of the network, over which the VLANS supported by the VIVID system spans, becomes larger, this single route server could become a bottleneck point of the system performance. One possible approach to cope with this problem is to deploy multiple route servers. We propose two architectures, organic and independent, to expand the original VIVID system to deploy multiple route servers. A course of simulations are done to analyze the performance of each architecture that we propose. The simulation results show that the performances of the proposed architectures depend on the lengths of VLAN broadcasting sessions and the number of broadcast data frames generated by a session. It has also been shown that there are tradeoffs between the scalability of the architecture and their efficiency in data transmissions.
