Architecture of Policy-Based Network Management for Providing Internet Differentiated Service on Mobile IP Environment (이동 IP 환경에서 인터넷 차별화 서비스 제공을 위한 정책기반 네트워크 관리 구조)

  • Because of increasing the notebook computer and PDA, users' requirement with respect to mobility is growing more and more. However, current IP protocol is not changed IP address and can not deliver IP packets on new location of host in case moving another network. To solve this problem, the IETF has proposed mobile IP. Today users want to be provided suitable QoS in the internet since demand of services is variety. The policy-based network management is method which can solve various problems of QoS, security, and complication of management in IP networks. This paper presents the network topology constitution, operation procedure and architecture of policy-based network management for providing internet DiffServ on mobile IP environment. In this paper we propose policy classes of policy-based DiffServ network management on mobile environment and create policy scenarios using the proposed policy description language to represent the policy classes. Finally, we implemented a policy-based DiffServ network management system on mobile IP environment.

  • In this paper we have proposed policy-based network management system architecture for Internet QoS support Mobile IP networks that is divided into four layers(application layer, information management layer, policy control layer, device layer), then we propose an implementation strategy of policy-based network management system to enforce various control and network management operations and a model of policy server using SCOPS(Simple Common Open Policy Service) protocol that is developed in this research. For policy-based mobile IP network management system implementation, we have derived four policy classes(access control, mobile IP operation, QoS control, and network monitoring) and we showed operation procedures for each policy scenarios. Finally we have implemented Internet QoS support policy-based mobile IP network testbed and management system and verified out DiffServ policy enforcement behaviors for a target class service that is arranged a specific bandwidth on network congestion conditions.

The network management for maintaining stable and efficient environment is more difficult according to being various by complicated network environment and requirements of provided service and user. The recent rises concern about policy-based network technology. Therefore, this paper proposed a framework of policy-based network and developed policy scenarios using the presented policy language of mobile IP.

  • Which factors should influence consumer consideration to subscribe to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)? Policy issues, managerial concerns, and demographic variables are possible factors. This paper discusses policy and managerial issues regarding VoIP adoption. A model that explains VoIP adoption is proposed and tested. This study analyzes a survey of 750 prospective VoIP users in Korea. The testing is accompanied by logistic regression and discriminant analysis. The results show that trust in VoIP, relative comparison of Quality to fixed service, numbering plan, satisfactions of call Quality and customer services on both fixed and mobile services have impacts on the adoption of VoIP. Implications for VoIP providers and policy makers are presented.

  • As the value and role of intellectual property increases in our knowledge-based economy, countries around the world have exerted various efforts to secure, utilize, and protect their intellectual property. The present study diagnoses the level of IP infrastructure of major OECD countries and analyzes their characteristics and impact. According to the diagnosis, the US, Switzerland, and Germany form a leading group followed by the mid-level countries of Korea, Ireland, Australia, and France, with Spain and Italy in the bottom group. In contrast to Korea's competitiveness in S&T and R&D infrastructures, its competitiveness in IP infrastructure is lower than the OECD average. This is thought to be due to Korea's IP infrastructure being hastily formed under the influence of international pressures rather than having been gradually built up by internal needs. A TFP analysis of the impact of IP infrastructure on economic growth shows IP infrastructure positively influences economic growth. Though this analysis is limited due to inability to secure sufficient data and indicators, it is a useful guide for understanding the nature and key characteristics of IP infrastructure.

  • At present, deterioration in service quality, which caused by increased network traffic from a lot of users in the same network, makes smooth communication service difficult. In this paper, we present policy-based QoS management system for VoIP service in order to supply smooth VoIP service to users. The presented system can guarantee quality of VoIP service even in huge traffic situation, and makes it possible to operate whole network in an efficient manner.

  • This paper presents the design of a certain highly efficient security policy negotiation of SPS(Security Policy System) for secure network management using mobile agent system. The conventional IP security systems for secure network management have some problems. A drawback to these systems is that the required policy between each security area is different. Another problem is not possible to guarantee whether a packet is transmitted through the same path by both directions and is protected by the same policy due to the topology of the network. Unlike conventional systems, the model developed herein can be resolved by using a mobile agent technology. If each domain needs a negotiation of security policy, a mobile agent manages the result of the negotiation in the form of a passport and guarantees the authentication and reliability each other by using the passport.

  • The present study aims at developing a policy framework for the long-term preservation of authentic digital records. To accomplish this, the study analyzed the main research outcomes from InterPARES(International Research on Permanent Authentic Records in Electronic System: IP). It has (1) selected major outcomes from IP project, (2) disassemble principles and guidelines suggested by IP into individual concepts and components, (3) rearranged them into a conceptual framework, which has been used as a basis for the policy framework, and finally (4) developed a policy framework for the long-term preservation of authentic digital records. The policy framework suggested here could serve as a basis for either establishing national or institutional policy or developing standards and guidelines for long-term preservation of authentic digital records.

  • The purpose of this study was firstly to provide fundamental data on the activation for the IP-based video phone for the special consumer related to the physically handicapped; secondly to inform empirical data for the consumer public policy in the information technology market, specially for the deaf people. The results of study showed that consumer needs extend to not only simple voice communication for general consumers but also special demands for both the handicapped and the elderly. This study also indicated that VoIP's characteristics of technology would be easily applied to the TRS or VRS which can be adapted to the special consumer market so that VoIP service would be optimal technology for the special consumers like the deaf. In order to successfully implement TRS & VRS business, the paper proposed as follows; 1) the provision of VoIP service enable to satisfying consumers in special market such as the deaf market and the elderly market, 2) the necessity of supporting policy by the related law, and 3) the construction of the system inducing interests from the market participants.
