  • The threshing action of the head-fed type threshing unit occurs mainly by the impact between threshing tooth and grains. It may be therefore the most fundamental step to calculate the time and order of the occurrance of impact by the tooth for predicting the performance of threshing unit. The threshing teeth arrangement was defined by length and diameter of threshing dram, number of spiral arrays, number of threshing teeth by kind per one spiral array, number of windings of spiral array around the threshing drum, delay angle of impact line. The linear equations for locus of left and right margin of paddy bundle, spiral array, impact line on the development figure of the threshing drum were expressed by fastors of the threshing teeth arrangement. In the computer program, the teeth which inflict impact were searched successively along the impact line. Searching range and impact condition were defined by the relation between four linear equations. If the impacting tooth was found, time and the kind of threshing tooth was derived from the coordinate of the threshing tooth. At this time the unit torque curve was accumulated on the array of computer memory. At last the completed torque curve of threshing drum shaft was described on the computer screen. Remarkably the peack valae and fluctuation of torque curve was decreased by adopting the delay angle of impact line.

  • In this research, a drop impact analysis of a fuel assembly in a research reactor is carried out to determine whether the fuel plate integrity is maintained in a drop accident. A fuel assembly drop accident is classified based on where the accident occurs, i.e., inside or outside the reactor, since each occasion results in a different impact load on the fuel assembly. An analysis procedure suitable for each drop situation is systematically established. For an accident occurring outside the reactor, the direct impact of a fuel assembly on the pool bottom is analyzed using implicit and explicit approaches. The effects of the key parameters, such as the impact velocity and structural damping ratios, are also studied. For an accident occurring inside the reactor, the falling fuel assembly may first hit the fixing bar at the upper part of the standing fuel assembly. To confirm the fuel plate integrity, a fracture of the fixing bar should be investigated, since the fixing bar plays a role in protecting the fuel plate from the external impact force. Through such an analysis, the suitability of an impact analysis procedure associated with the drop situation in the research reactor is shown.

  • MDO(Multidisciplinary Design Optimization) methodology is a new technology to solve a complicate design problem with a large number of design variables and constraints. The design of a dental implant system is a typical complicate problem, and so it requires the MDO methodology. Actually, several analyses such as rigid body dynamic analysis and structural stress analysis etc. should be carried out in the MDO methodology application to the design of a dental implant system. In this paper, as a first step of MDO methodology application to the design of a dental implant system, the impact force which is applied on the tooth in masticating is calculated through the rigid body dynamic analysis of upper and lower jaw-bones. This analysis is done using ADAMS. The impact force calculated through the rigid body dynamic analysis can be used for the structural stress analysis of a dental implant system which is needed for the design of a dental implant system. In addition, the rigid body dynamic analysis results also show that the impact time decreases as the impact force increases, the largest impact force occurs on the front tooth, and the impact force is almost normal to the tooth surface with a slight tangential force.

  • In case of large soft body impact test at the construction site, the test conditions are different from conditions at the laboratory, and the length of rope to hold the impact specimen must be changed. In a previous study, the fact that the size of impact load is varied by the length of rope on the large soft body impact specimen was confirmed. In this study, the length of rope and fall height were set as independent variables to conduct the load analysis test. It was determined that the load fluctuation was occurred depending on the length of rope under the fall height over 100 mm, and it is concluded that the additional setup of fall height to modify the actual impact load size is required when the length of rope is below 2.5 m. In this study, the modified formula to put equal size of impact load regardless of the length of rope was extracted through the experiment.

  • Impact location monitoring is one of the major concerns of the smart health monitoring. For this application, multipoint ultrasonic sensors are to be employed. In this study, a multiplexed FBG sensor system with wide dynamic range was proposed and stabilization controlling system was also developed for the maintenance of maximum sensitivity of sensors. For the intensity demodulation system of FBG sensors, Fabry-Perot tunable filter(FP-TF) with 23.8nm FSR(free spectral range) was used, which behaves as two separate filters between $1530 \~ 1560$ nm range. Two FBG sensors were attached on the bottom side of the graphite/epoxy composite beam specimen, and low velocity impact tests were performed to detect the one-dimensional impact locations. Impact locations were calculated by the arrival time differences of the impact longitudinal waves acquired by the two FBGs. As a result, multiplexed in-line FBG sensors could detect the moment of impact precisely and found the impact locations with the average error of 1.32mm.

  • Reliable and accurate method of computationally aided design processes of advanced thin walled structures in automotive industries are much essential for the efficient usage of smart materials, that possess higher energy absorption in dynamic compression loading. In this paper, most versatile components i.e., thin walled crash tubes with different geometrical profiles are introduced in view of mitigating the impact of varying cross section in crash behavior and energy absorption characteristics. Apart from the geometrical parameters such as length, diameter and thickness, the non-dimensionalized parameters of average forces which control the plastic bending moment for varying thickness has explored in view of quantifying its impact on the crashworthiness of the structure. The explicit finite element code ABAQUS is utilized to conduct the numerical studies to examine the effect of parametric modifications in crash behavior and energy absorption. Also the simulation results are experimentally validated. It is evident that the circular cross-sectional tubes are preferable as high collision impact shock absorbers due to their ability in withstanding axial and oblique impact loads effectively. Furthermore, the specific energy absorption (SEA), crash force efficiency (CFE), plastic bending moment, peak force responses and its impact for optimally tailoring a design to cater the crashworthiness requirements are investigated. The primary outcome of the study is to provide sufficient information on circular tubes for the use of energy absorbers where impact oblique loading is expected.

  • Social-impact is getting more emphasized for the R&D program evaluation. Qualitative indicators such as 'Productive-interactions' and 'Social-impact of R&D' have been included for the evaluation criteria in USA, UK and Netherlands. Recently, Korean government also realizes importance of the social-impact, so 'Follow-up evalution' is launched in order to evaluate not only technical-impact but also social-impact. In this paper, possibilities and challenges of social-impact analysis are reviewed. Furthermore, successful cases from the leading overseas countries are benchmarked to have policy implications.

  • Analysis of dynamic or impact problems is very important in engineering fields such as airplanes and automobiles. In the present study, two-dimensional elastodynamic BEM program with Laplace transformation is developed to analyze dynamic or impact problems. Accuracy and efficiency of the BEM program are tested by making the comparision of impact analysis of some models with other's published results. The BEM developed is applied to the impact crack problem and the dynamic stress intensity factors of some impact cracks is obtained by the displacement extrapolation method. It is confirmed to be possible to analyze impact problems accurately with only a little elements in simple models. And also it is found to be careful to use the singular element usually using in static crack problems because that the elastodynamic fundamental solution usually using in static crack problems because that the elastodynamic fundamental solution has more sensitive singularity than the static fundamental solution and to determine the boundary conditions in dynamic problems.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the kinetic energy of putter head and ball movements during the process of impact. Highly skilled 5 golfers(less than 1 handicap) participated in this study and the target distance was 3 m. Movements of ball and putter head were recorded with 2 VHS video cameras(60 Hz, 1/500 s shutter speed). Small control object($18.5{\times}18.5{\times}78.5\;cm$) was used in this sdtuldy. Analyzing the process of impact, putter was digitized before 0.0835 s and after 0.0835 s of impact. Ball was digitized 0.1336 s after impact. The results showed that the maximum speed was appeared at Impact and prolonged for a while. Contact point of the club head was within 0.7 cm to the z axis. After contacting the club head, the ball was moved above the ground level(slide) and returned to the ground with sliding and rolling. After contacting the ground, the speed of ball was relied on the surface of the ground. During impact, 70% of kinetic energy of club head has been transferred to the ball.

  • Although the electronic body protector has been officially adopted by the World Taekwondo Federation(WTF) in 2006, no scientific information is available about the reliability of its performance. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to investigate the relationship between the impact value of electronic body protector and the impact force of force platform. Male collegiate Taekwondo athletes([MCTA], n=21) and male collegiate Taekwondo students([MCTS], n=20) volunteered to participate in the study. Each subject performed the apchagi, dollyeochagi and dwichagi on the force platform and the electronic body protector. At the apchagi, it showed that MCTS(about 4,700 N) generated more maximum kick force than MCTA(about 3,900 N), but it expressed that MCTA(about 5,300 N) generated more maximum kicking force than MCTS(about 4,400 N) at the dwichagi. At the apchagi and the dwichagi, it indicated the high coefficient of correlation(over r=.8) which supports higher explanation force the relationship between the impact value of electronic body protector and the impact force of force platform, but there was no statistically significant difference at the dollyeochagi.
