  • In this study, the new dimensionless values were defined and proposed to determine the parameters of urban runoff models based on the relative sensitivity analysis. Also, the sensitivity characteristics of each parameter were investigate. In order to analyze the parameter sensitivities of each model, total runoff ratio, peak runoff ratio, runoff sensitivity ratio, sensitivity ratio of total runoff, and sensitivity ratio of peak runoff were defined. $$Total\;runoff\;ratio(Q_{TR})\;=\;\frac{Total\;runoff\;of\;corresponding\;step}{Maximum\;total\;runoff}$$$$Peak\;runoff\;ratio(Q_{PR})\;=\;\frac{Peak\;runoff\;of\;corresponding\;step}{Maximum\;peak\;runoff}$$$$Runoff\;sensitivity\;ratio(Q_{SR})\;=\;\frac{Q_{TR}}{Q_{PR}}$$ And for estimation of sensitivity ratios based on the scale of basin area, rainfall distributions and rainfall durations in ILLUDAS & SWMM, the reasonable ranges of parameters were proposed.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a method of computing urban runoff from urban drainage areas in Korea. Four different methods are studied and applied to two detention basins in Seoul: Wheekyeong and Yongdoo detention basins. The computation of runoff from the two basins was carried out for 10 historical storms, and the results computed by each method were compared with those observed. As the standards for comparision, peak discharges. total runoff volumes and the shapes of hydrographs are selected. The present research concludes that Rational formula and KPRRL can be used only for computing peak discharges in small urban areas and ILLUDAS shows the fair accuracy compared to the observed. ILLUDAS was selected as the best fit model to be applied to the Korean urban areas, since it showed more accurate results under the different types of storms.

  • Recent development booms in urban watersheds have increased impermeable areas and brought about an increase of peak flood. Eventually, some people living in the lower area of an urban watershed, very often and seriously, have suffered form inundation. In this study, for minimization of inundation in urban watersheds, the operational criteria for pump stations are suggested. At first, ILLUDAS has been selected as a runoff model which can explain the past precipitations. Secondly the operational criteria for pump stations could be suggested by working out an operational criteria for pump stations could be suggested by working out an operation program from the relationship between pumping capacity and accumulative hydrographs, and from the Intensity-Duration-Frequency relationship.

  • The flood damage has being increased because of urbanization due to the industrialization and the growth of population. Therefore, the hydrologic properties such as increasing the peak flow and decreasing the concentration time of the peak flow have been changed. Hence, the interest of an urban prevention against flood disasters has been centralized at the present day. The objectives of this study is to develop the suitable models to calculate the runoff characteristics from an urban basin. This study describes the properties of each urban hydrologic model and to determine suitable basin model using the ILLUDAS and SWMM models in the urban runoff models in the Yong-Ahm area at Chungju. The peak flow, concentration time and total runoff value of this area are compared and analyzed with regard to calculated and real values. After obtaining values appropriated from the ILLUDAS and SWMM models using 5 rainfall events in this areas, the peak flows, concentration times and total runoff values are compared with real values. As a result of this study, the Transport block of the SWMM is closely shown to real values.

  • The characteristics of storm and water quality are investigated based on the measuring data of the test river, the Hongje. the water quality of the test river is generally good comparing to other urban rivers in Seoul, because of the interception of sewer flow. But this system makes the river dry up for 3-4 months in winter. On the other hand, in rainy period the storm from the combined sewer system causes rapid increasing pollutants loads. In order to simulate the urban storm and water quality of the trest basin, the models such as SWMM, ILLUDAS, STORM, HEC-1 were applied and the results are compared in its applicability and accuracy aspects. All models discussed here have shown good results and it seems that SUMM is the most effective model in simulating both quantity and quality. Also, regression relations between the water quantity and quality were derived and their applicabilities were discussed. This regression model is a simple effective tool for estimating the pollutant loads in the rainy period, but if the amount of discharge is bigger than measuring range of raw data, the accuracy becomes poor. This model could be supplemented by expanding the range of collecting data and introducing the river characteristics. The HEC-1 would be anther effective model to simulate storm runoff of a river basin including urban area.

  • This research is to show the application of runoff model and runoff analysis of urban storm drainage network. the runoff models that were used for this research were RRL, ILLUDAS, and SWMM applicative object basin were Geucknak-chun and Sangmu drainage basin located in Seo-Gu, Kwangju. The runoff analysis employed the design storm that distributed the rainfall intensity according to the return period after the huff's method. The result from the comparative analysis of the three runoff models was as follows The difference of peak runoff by return period was 20-30% at Sangmu drainage area of $3.17 Km^2$, while less than 10% at Geucknak-chun drainage area of $12.7 Km^2$. The peak runoff were similar to all models. At the runoff hydrograph the times between rising and descending points were in the sequence of RRL, ILLUDAS and SWMM, but the peak times were similar to all models. The conveyance coefficient to examine the conveyance of the existing drainage network was 0.94-1.37, which means insecure, in Geucknak-chun drainage basin and 0.69-1.16, which means secure, in sangmu drainage basin.

  • The ILLUDAS and SWMM models were applied to the developing area of Dongsucheon for comparisons of the total runoff, peak discharge and travel time. For this purpose, the present and future urbanization rates were assumed 70% and 90%, respectively. The runoff analysis of two models has been performed based on 10, 20, 30 and 50 return periods and Huff's 4 quantiles for time distribution pattern of design rainfalls. As results, the total runoff based on Huff's pattern had an decreasing order of 1, 4, 3 and 2 quantiles for both models. The SWMM model showed that there were 4.3% increasing of the total runoff, 4.9% increasing of peak discharge, and 6.6% decreasing of travel time. Similarly, for ILLUDAS model, there were 7.3% and 9.2% increasing of total runoff and peak discharge, respectively and 9.1% decreasing of travel time.

  • Urbanization concerned with concentration of population, activity and expanding the urban changes a natural environmental, and human activity in urban area causes the appearance of a new hydrologic cycle system. This study is carried out the analysis for the characteristics of runoff variation in urban areas with progress of urbanization. To simulate the mechanics of runoffs on small urban watershed, the ILLUDAS model is used in this study. From the analysis of the urban-runoff processes in small urban area with the progress of urbanization, the following conclusions is obtained. It is found in the results of calculated geographical parameter that peak time is quickened by 15∼35 minutes rather than the urbanization before. Also, in the analysis of the peak rate of runoff, the peak flow rise by 60 % than the urbanization before.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the urban hydrologic state by the use of GIS, resolution and interpolation. The determination coefficient($R^2$) and Regression Formula were derived from the contour of digital map for the accuracy, and DEM data was made by using TIN interpolation by the size of the grid. By using the observed DEM data, topographical factors were extracted from the small basin, size, the width of a basin and the slope, and were applied in the urban runoff model. Through the model, we tried to find out the most suitable runoff model in a small basin of Yosu-Munsu area. As a result of applying models to the drainage considered, the runoff hydrograph estimated by SWMM model was closer to the observed one than that estimated by ILLUDAS model. The difference between the runoff hydrograph by SWMM and the observed one is maximum error of 19%, minimum error of 5% and average error of 13%. The influence of duration in contrast to pick time is insignificant in a urban small basin. As a conclusion of this study, SWMM model was more suitable and applicable for the urban runoff model than ILLUDAS model due to its accuracy and various abilities.
