  • In this paper, the effects to system performance are evaluated in IEEE 802.11 system when the number of competing terminals are estimated and reflected to the system. The IEEE 802.11 system uses DCF (Distributed Coordination Function) for the multiple access method, and the system throughput performance depends on the accuracy of the estimated number of competing terminals. We propose extended H infinity filter (EHIF) approach which does not require the noise information for estimating the number of competing terminals. Simulation results show that EHIF outperforms the extended Kalman filter in both saturated and non-saturated network conditions.

  • A new backoff scheme for infrastructure mode in IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs is proposed to improve a performance. Each station generates a unique backoff number using total number of stations, fairness parameter included in beacon frame and an user's ID that is assigned by AP. The station sends a packet after its own backoff number of idle slots, which makes a collision free access among stations within AP's coverage. The proposed method shows better performance in the view of channel utilization and packet delay than an original IEEE 802.11 CSMA/CA backoff scheme.

  • In this paper, first, we proposed various possible candidate schemes for determining initial sleep window size and varying sleep window size in sleep mode for power saving class I of IEEE 802.16e. Then, we analyzed and compared the power saving performances of those schemes. The schemes used for the comparisons are EICV of IEEE 802.16e, and other comparable schemes such as EIED, EILD, LIED and LILD. Experimental results show that LILD and EIED outperform other comparable schemes. Especially, EIED shows the better performances for the case of high traffic intensity environments, while LILD does for the low traffic intensity case.

  • In this paper, we propose the scheduling scheme of IEEE802.15.4e TSCH which is not specified in standard specification. The proposed scheme schedules the link by cooperating among the devices. A new device scans EBs(Enhanced Beacons) from network. An advertiser device broadcasts an enhanced beacon frame including links information on allocated channel offset and time-slots, and a new device can determine its own channel offset and time-slot. It's performance on maximum throughput and minimum delay is evaluated by comparing the proposed approach with a typical single channel IEEE802.15.4.

  • This paper proposes a traffic-aware TXOP adjustment algorithm for the IEEE 802.11e networks. In the proposed algorithm the access point (AP) monitors the network traffics periodically and adjusts the TXOP value of the non-QoS traffic in order to improve the network throughput while maintaining the QoS of video and voice applications. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the legacy IEEE 802.11e in terms of the throughput and the fairness.

  • Frame Aggregation is a promissing technology for improving MAC throughput in IEEE 802.11n. In IEEE 802.11n, two frame aggregation schemes, Aggregate MSDU (A-MSDU) and Aggregation MPDU (A-MPDU), are defined. In this paper, we analyze the performance the two-level frame aggregation scheme where A-MSDU and A-MPDU are combined. We develop the analytical model for the two-level frame aggregation scheme and present numerical results on the effect of bit error rate, aggregation size, and the number of nodes.

  • In this paper, we evaluate the throughput performance of IEEE 802.15.4 Time Slotted Channel Hopping (TSCH) tree network using Contiki-NG operating system. We build a virtual simulation environment to compare the throughput performance of various IEEE 802.15.4 TSCH networks according to the changes in the number of nodes and the hop counts. The simulation results show that the throughput increases as the number of nodes increase while it decreases as the hop counts increase.

  • In IEEE 802.15.4a IR-UWB (Impulse Radio Ultra Wideband) systems, it is crucial to acquire initial carrier/timing synchronization and estimate channel response by exploiting the SYNC symbols embedded in each packet. On the other hand, it is also crucial to detect the SFD pattern followed by the header and data symbols to reliably extract the information contained in the packet. In this paper, we propose a reliable SFD detection scheme utilizing some surplus SYNC symbols in addition to SFD symbols to improve the SFD detection performance.

  • In this paper, we analyze the hardware and software platform for constructing the USN in the vessel environment. Specifically, we analyze the mote technology based on the CC2420 in the hardware platform and analyze the TinyOS platform in the software platform. We also analyze the physical layer of IEEE802.15.4 which is the standard of the USN communication. In the simulation, we evaluate the performance in the physical layer of ZigBee/IEEE 802.15.4 by using the MATLAB and verify the validity of constructing the USN in the vessel environment based on the simulation results.

  • Portable Internet extended from wireless LAN has a large cell size, similar to a wireless mobile communication, and can provides the seamless service which offers middle-low speed mobility. IEEE 802.16e, the international standard of Portable Internet, uses PKMv2(Privacy Key Management) protocol for authorization and key exchange between a MSS(Mobile Subscriber Station) and a BS(Base Station). This paper first reviews and studies overall security architecture of TTA HPi standard and IEEE 802.16e which supports mobility based on WMAN(Wireless Metropolitan Area Network) standard(IEEE 802.16)
