The aims of this study is to realize the structural design for development of a medium scale E-glass/epoxy composite wind turbine blade for a 750KW class horizontal axis wind turbine system. In this study, the various load cases specified by the IEC61400-1 international specification and GL Regulations for the wind energy conversion system were considered, and a specific composite structure configuration which can effectively endure various loads such as aerodynamic and centrifugal loads, loads due to accumulation of ice, hygro-thermal and mechanical loads was proposed. In order to evaluate the structure, the structural analysis for the composite wind turbine blade were peformed using tile finite element method(FEM). In the structural design, the acceptable blade structural configuration was determined through the parametric studies, and the most dominant design parameters were confirmed. In the stress analysis using the FEM, it was confirmed that the blade structure was safe and stable in any various load cases Moreover the safety of the blade root joint with insert bolts, newly devised in this study, was checked against the design fond and the fatigue.
In the performance test for wind turbines of medium and large, The reference met-mast should be installed for measurement reference wind speed as IEC 61400-12-1 standards and design of booms for mounted an anemometer must be considered exactly. Boom-mounted cup anemometer are influenced by flow distortion of the mast and the boom. Therefore design of booms must be important so that flow distortion due to booms should be kept below 0.5%. But, in some cases at size of met-mast structure, the distance of boom from mast is longer then measurement of wind speed is impossible because of oscillation of boom-mounted anemometer. In this paper, We measured a wind speed at several point from mast and boom and we analyzed the error of wind speed at each point of measurement. Also, we will suggest a correction method using the data curve fitting about errors of wind speed between each point of mounted anemometer.
As wind power farm (WPF) installations continue to grow, monitoring and controlling large-scale WPFs presents new challenges. In this paper, a hierarchical network architecture is proposed in order to provide remote monitoring and control of large-scale WPFs. The network architecture consists of three levels, including the WPF comprised of wind turbines and meteorological towers, local control center (LCC) responsible for remote monitoring and control of wind turbines, and a central control center (CCC) that offers data collection and aggregation of many WPFs. Different scenarios are considered in order to evaluate the performance of the WPF communications network with its hierarchical architecture. The communications network within the WPF is regarded as the local area network (LAN) while the communication among the LCCs and the CCC happens through a wide area network (WAN). We develop a communications network model based on an OPNET modeler, and the network performance is evaluated with respect to the link bandwidth and the end-to-end delay measured for various applications. As a result, this work contributes to the design of communications networks for large-scale WPFs.
There have been many academic researches on the aerodynamic design of wind turbine based on blade element method (BEM) and momentum theory (MT, or actuating disk theory). However, in the real world, the turbine blade design requires many additional constraints more than theoretical analysis. The standard procedure is studied in the present paper to design new blades for the wind turbine system ranged from the small size from 1 to 10 kW. From the experience of full design of a 10 kW blade, the authors tried to set up a standard procedure for the aerodynamic design based on IEC 61400-2. Wind-turbine scale, rotating speed, and geometrical chord/twist distribution at the segmented span positions are calculated with a suitable BEM/MT code, and the geometrical shape of tip and root should be modified after considering various parameters: wing-tip vortex, aerodynamic noise, turbine efficiency, structural safety, convenience of fabrication, and even economic factor likes price, etc. The evaluated data is passed to the next procedure of structural design, but some of them should still be corresponded with each other: the fluid-structure interaction is one of those problems not yet solved, for example. Consequently, the design procedure of small wind-turbine blades is set up for the mass production of commercial products in this research.

This study conducted a seismic qualification analysis of small savonius style vertical axis wind turbine(VAWT) using finite element method(FEM). The modal analysis was performed on the wind turbine structure to check the occurrence of resonance caused by the rotation of gearbox and windmill blades. Next, it conducted a seismic response spectrum analysis due to horizontal and vertical seismic load of required response spectrum of safe shutdown earthquake with 5 % damping(RRS/SSE 5%) of KS C IEC 61400 and conducted a static analysis due to deadweight and wind load. The total maximum stress of the VAWT structure was calculated by adding the maximum stresses due to each load case using the square root of the sum of the squares(SRSS) method. Finally, the structural safety of the VAWT structure was verified by comparing the total maximum stress and the allowable stress.
In this study, it is to verify the applicability for a simplified model(IEC61400-2, Design Require-ments for Small Wind Turbines, 2006-03) is the international standard is used to the structural design. In the design process of a wind turbine, the safety of a designed wind turbine is one of the most important factors. The simplified model can be used to determine the design load for small wind turbines. So, this paper has been re-evaluated a small wind turbine design loads that produced already. As a result, the material characteristic value(Rchar) of Blade, Rotor shaft and the tower are $90E6[N/m^2]$, $441E6[N/m^2]$ and $94E6[N/m^2]$. Therefore, the value of the applied safety factor to each part of the survival probability of 95% are satisfied.

The sound measurement procedures of IEC 61400-11 are applied to field test and evaluation of noise emission from 1.5 MW wind turbine generator (WTG) at Yongdang and 660 kW WTG at Hangwon in Jeju Island. Apparent sound power level, wind speed dependence and third-octave band levels are evaluated for both of WTGs. 1.5 MW WTG at Yongdang is found to emit lower sound power than 660 kW one at Hangwon, which seems to be due to lower rotating speed of the rotor of WTG at Yongdang. Equivalent continuous sound pressure levels (ECSPL) of 660 kW WTG at Hangwon vary more widely with wind speed than those of 1.5 MW WTG at Yongdang. The reason for this is believed to be the fixed blade rotating speed of WTG at Yongdang. One-third octave band analysis of the measured data show that the band components around 400-500 Hz are dominant for 1.5 MW WTG at Yongdang and those around 1K Hz are dominant for 660 kW WTG at Hangwon.
Wind lidar application is increasing and its calibration method is required to use wind lidar as an alternative to the meteorological mast. A nacelle lidar calibration method is now being discussed in IEC 61400-50-3 (Wind energy generation systems - Part 50-3: Use of nacelle-mounted lidars for wind measurements), and the method is mainly based on the wind lidar beam line of sight (LOS) wind speed calibration suggested by DTU as DTU E-0020 (Calibrating Nacelle Lidars). In this paper, a LOS wind speed calibration method is introduced and a calibration example performed on Jeju island is presented. The results showed a slope of 1.011 and R2 of 0.997, which means that the LOS wind speed is highly correlated with the reference wind speed and is comparable. But LOS wind speed calibration requires a very long time due to its principle and environmental conditions, and a calibration method that can overcome this problem of uncontrollable environments needs to be developed.
The wind turbine gearbox has the longest downtime among other major turbine components such as blades, generators, and main bearings. Therefore, gearbox manufacturers conduct rig tests to evaluate conformity in terms of design and function. Rig tests, however, have limited similarity compared with atmospheric wind turbine operating conditions. Rig test conditions are thoroughly controlled and maintained by testers and the component certificates of gearboxes issued through the test cannot fulfill wind farm operator's requirements. Hence, certification bodies such as DNV-GL and UL require a mandatory gearbox field test report for type certification. The Korea Energy Agency (KEA) also introduced gearbox field test as a part of the KS type certificate in 2016, although it is optional . In this paper, gearbox field test procedures and requirements are introduced, and the first domestic application case of the test is reported. The field test was conducted with a 1.5 MW wind turbine gearbox located in Jeju as the test object.
