  • This paper aims to develop the adequate quality cost model at a company which delivers ICT(information communication technology) services. One particular business unit was in the first instance selected and quality costs were then analysed at an organization level, for a department and for specific processes. Some areas were determined for quality improvement at each level and their causes were also investigated. However, the existing PAF(prevention, appraisal and failure) models reveled some limitations because the ICT services company included the different number of large and complicated business processes. The PAF model did not sufficiently highlight the detailed causes of failure costs. It did not also stimulate the relevant department's strong responsibility to improve such problems. Both micro PAF and process cost models were proposed in order to cope with this. In final, it explains the relationship between six sigma and quality costing, suggesting how to use the quality costing results as a means of promoting either continuous improvement or innovation in a case company.

  • '4th Industrial Revolution' is accelerating as a core part of creating new growth engines and enhancing competitiveness of businesses. The fourth industrial revolution means the transformation of society and industries that are brought by IoT (Internet of Things), big data analysis, AI (Artificial Intelligence), and robot technology. Information and Communication Technology (ICT), which is a major factor, is affecting production and manufacturing systems and as ICT technologies become more advanced, intelligent information technology is generally utilized in all areas of society, leading to hyper-connected society where new values are created and developed. ICT technology is not just about connecting devices and systems and making smart, it is about constantly converging and harmonizing new technologies in a number of fields and driving innovation and change. It is no exception to the agro-fisheries trade. In particular, ICT technology is applied to the agricultural sector, reducing labor, providing optimal environment for crops, and increasing productivity. Due to the nature of agriculture, which is a labor-intensive industry, it is predicted that the ripple effects of ICT technologies will become bigger. We are expected to use the Smart Concentration using ICT convergence technology as a useful resource for changing smart farms, and to help develop new service markets.

  • Public R&D investment information has diverse implications for researching R&D trends. Also, as it is important for the establishment of R&D policy to grasp the current situation and trends of R&D to improve science and technology level, science and technology information service system, such as NTIS (National Science & Technology Information Service), is operated at a national level in most countries. However, since the data forms provided by current NTIS are raw data, it is necessary to develop the R&D performance indicator or to use additional scientometric methods by analyzing scientific papers or scientific R&D project information for grasping R&D trends or analyzing R&D task results. Thus, this study applied public R&D investment information to investigate and monitor R&D trends in the field of information & communication technology (ICT) of meteorology and climatology by using NTIS data of Korea and NSF (National Science Foundation) data of USA.

  • The purposes of this study were to suggest 1) a future direction for Korea's machine tool industry and 2) how to secure the safety and reliability of emerging intelligent or automated machine tooling. The study concludes that, overseas, the machine tool industry is growing again while promoting innovation by converging with ICT. Accordingly, Korea also promotes ICT innovation to advance the machine tool industry, which is at the core of the national economy. As a result, unlike in the past, the frequency of serious injuries like entrapment accidents has recently decreased, while the proportion of collision accidents has increased. In addition, a new type of accident has become possible. Since ICT is network-based, the distinction between work and rest can become ambiguous; there is a risk of hacking, working hours and places are flexible and there are risk factors for diseases like chronic fatigue due to overload of specific personnel. As robots and automation are introduced, there is also a high probability of problems caused by physical and psychological burdens on system operators and resulting fatigue.

  • Many scholars have persevered in understanding the convergence process by developing a measurement that reflects the characteristics of the convergence phenomenon as a process. Recently a series of studies suggested a framework in terms of diversity and coherence. However, an index for coherence is required to reflect the vital features of the conceptual definition, and thus a new index for coherence is proposed in this paper. Technology Convergence Index combines diversity and coherence and indicates the degree of the convergence in information computer technology (ICT), biotechnology (BT) and nanotechnology (NT) sectors. The index can not only be used to track each technology field that consists of a major technology sector, but also to compare other leading countries. Based on a comparison study between the United States and South Korea, the degrees of technology convergence of Korea in ICT, BT, and NT sectors have ameliorated.
