합성얼음과 냉동얼음을 사용한 쇄빙선의 추진 성능 비교 연구 (Comparison Study on the Propulsion Performance for Icebreaker with Synthetic ice and Refrigerated ice)

  • This paper reports on experimental investigations of self propulsion performance with synthetic (model) ice and refrigerated ice, which were conducted in a typical towing tank and ice tank, respectively. The main purpose of this research was to find the correlation between the selfpropulsion performance with synthetic ice in a typical towing tank and that with refrigerated ice in an ice tank. The different stresses between the synthetic ice and refrigerated ice influenced the self propulsion performance due to different ice and propeller interactions. A further study on the ice property variation for a self propulsion performance comparison is to be conducted in the near future.

Sentinel-1 영상레이더 간섭 긴밀도 영상의 레이어 병합을 활용한 남극 장보고 과학기지 주변 정착해빙 탐지 (Detection of Landfast Sea Ice Near Jang Bogo Antarctic Research Station Using Layer-Stacked Sentinel-1 Interferometric SAR Coherence Images)

  • 정착해빙은 극지역 해안에 형성되는 고착된 해빙으로, 해양 생태계와 해안에 위치한 과학기지들의 운용에 큰 영향을 끼치는 중요한 인자이기 때문에 지속적인 관측이 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 6, 12, 18일의 시간 기선을 가지는 Sentinel-1 영상레이더(synthetic aperture radar, SAR) 간섭 긴밀도 영상들을 레이어 병합하여 동남극 장보고 과학기지 주변의 정착해빙을 탐지하였다. 2017년 7월부터 2018년 6월까지 총 50장의 간섭 긴밀도 영상을 제작하였으며, 이로부터 1년간의 정착해빙 면적 변화를 도출하였다. Campbell 빙하설을 기준으로 동쪽과 서쪽에서 정착해빙의 면적이 최대가 되는 시기가 상이함을 확인하였다. 이 연구를 통하여 SAR 간섭 긴밀도를 활용한 정착해빙 탐지 가능성을 확인하였으나, 생성 시간이 짧거나 부드러운 표면을 가져 작은 레이더 후방산란을 보이는 정착해빙과 Campbell 빙하설의 흐름 및 붕괴로 인해 급작스러운 움직임을 보이는 빙하설 인접 지역에서의 정착해빙이 미탐지 되는 한계점은 개선이 필요할 것으로 보인다.

회음부 불편감 완화를 위한 냉요법과 온요법의 비교연구 (A Study on Comparions of Ice Bag and Heat Lamp for the Relief of Perineal Discomfort.)

  • Perineal discomfort from episiotomy continues to be a problem for many postpartum women. The purposes of this study were to compare the effect of ice bag and heat lamp for the relief of perineal discomfort and to identify the sustaining time of each effect. Forty women took ice bag and heat lamp with random assignment of initial therapy. Women rated the degree of perineal discomfort before and after each therapy and at half-hour, tow-hour and four-hour intervals after each therapy. A discomfort scale, 18cm graphic rating scale, was used. The results of the study were as follows ; 1. The ice bag group showed significantly lower discomfort score than the heat lamp group at the half- hour and two - hour intervals after therapy. 2. The ice bag group showed significantly lower discomfort score for 4hrs after than before therapy, but the heat lamp group did not show significantly lower discomfort score. 3. Neither the type of episiotomy nor the previous experience of heat therapy influenced on the effect of ice bag relieving the perineal discomfort. Therefore ice bag was significantly mere effective in relieving perineal discomfort than heat lamp. Subjective responeses of patients who took both therapy were very favorable toward ice bag. I suggested that nurses should provide women with adequate information about the use of ice bag and encourage to apply ice bag instead of heat lamp after episiotomy in order to promote the relief of perineal discomfort and the healing of perineal wound.

Baltic Ice Class IA를 적용한 115K Ice Tanker 개발 (Development of 115K Tanker Design Adopted Ice Class 1A)

  • There are very few numbers of 115K FPP (Fixed Pitch Propulsion) Tankers for the Baltic ice class IA because the minimum power requirement of FMA (Finish- Swedish Maritime Association) needs quite large engine power and the 40 m Beam is out of calculation range of FMA minimum power requirements. The shipyard has no choice except to increase the engine power to satisfy FMA minimum power requirement Rule. And the operation cost, efficiency of hullform and its building cost are not good from the ship owners' point of view To solve this problem, the experience of ice breaking tanker development and the ice tank test results were adopted. The main idea to reduce the ice resistance is by reducing waterline angle at design load waterline. The reason behind the main idea is to reduce the ice-clearing force. Two hull forms were developed to satisfy Baltic Ice class IA. Two ice tank tests and one towing tank test was performed at MARC (Kvaener-Masa Arctic Research Center) and SSMB (Samsung Ship Model Basin) facilities, respectively. The purpose of these tests was to verify the performance in ice and open water respectively The hull form 2 shows less speed loss compared to Hull form 1 in open water operation but hull form 2 shows very good ice clearing ability. finally the Hull Form 2 satisfying Baltic ice class IA. The merit of this hull form is to use the same engine capacity and no major design changes in hull form and other related designs But the hull structure has to be changed according to the ice class grade. The difference in two hull form development methods, ice model test methods and analysis methods of ice model test will be described in this paper.

Sentinel-1 A/B 위성 SAR 자료와 딥러닝 모델을 이용한 여름철 북극해 해빙 분류 연구 (A Study on Classifying Sea Ice of the Summer Arctic Ocean Using Sentinel-1 A/B SAR Data and Deep Learning Models)

  • 북극항로의 개척 가능성과 정확한 기후 예측 모델의 필요성에 의해 북극해 고해상도 해빙 지도의 중요성이 증가하고 있다. 그러나 기존의 북극 해빙 지도는 제작에 사용된 위성 영상 취득 센서의 특성에 따른 데이터의 취득과 공간해상도 등에서 그 활용도가 제한된다. 본 연구에서는 Sentinel-1 A/B SAR 위성자료로부터 고해상도 해빙 지도를 생성하기 위한 딥러닝 기반의 해빙 분류 알고리즘을 연구하였다. 북극해 Ice Chart를 기반으로 전문가 판독에 의해 Open Water, First Year Ice, Multi Year Ice의 세 클래스로 구성된 훈련자료를 구축하였으며, Convolutional Neural Network 기반의 두 가지 딥러닝 모델(Simple CNN, Resnet50)과 입사각 및 thermal noise가 보정된 HV 밴드를 포함하는 다섯 가지 입력 밴드 조합을 이용하여 총 10가지 케이스의 해빙 분류를 실시하였다. 이 케이스들에 대하여 Ground Truth Point를 사용하여 정확도를 비교하고, 가장 높은 정확도가 나온 케이스에 대해 confusion matrix 및 Cohen의 kappa 분석을 실시하였다. 또한 전통적으로 분류를 위해 많이 활용되어 온 Maximum Likelihood Classifier 기법을 이용한 분류결과에 대해서도 같은 비교를 하였다. 그 결과 Convolution 층 2개, Max Pooling 층 2개를 가진 구조의 Convolutional Neural Network에 [HV, 입사각] 밴드를 넣은 딥러닝 알고리즘의 분류 결과가 96.66%의 가장 높은 분류 정확도를 보였으며, Cohen의 kappa 계수는 0.9499로 나타나 딥러닝에 의한 해빙 분류는 비교적 높은 분류 결과를 보였다. 또한 모든 딥러닝 케이스는 Maximum Likelihood Classifier 기법에 비해 높은 분류 정확도를 보였다.

다성분계 수용액의 교반/냉각에 의한 빙부착 (Adhesion of Ice Slurry in a Multi-component Aqueous Solution with Stirring and Cooling)

  • To resist ice adhesion on cooling wall is concerned to continuous ice formation in thermal storage system. In this study, ice slurries were formed with two ecological aqueous solution, one is ethanol+silanol and the other is propylene glycol+silanol. By freezing under stirring the solution of $300m\ell$ in a stainless steel vessel which was immersed and cooled in a temperature controlled bath, the shape of ice slurry and the strength of ice adhesion on wall was observed with measuring the temperature and stirring load variation. As the concentration is smaller and the supercooling degree is larger, the ice adhesion is easy to occur. When the stirring load is larger than$ 2.1\times10^{-5}W$, the ice adhesion occurred.

Vertical Diffusion of Ammonia Into Amorphous Ice Sturcture

  • We examined ammonia diffusion on the surface of amorphous ice film through the measurement of decreasing residual quantity of $NH_3$ molecules compared to $H_2O$. The populations of $NH_3$ molecules on the surface of amorphous ice were monitored by using the techniques of temperature programmed reactive ion scattering (TPRIS) method. The ratio of intensity between ammonia and water was examined as a function of time at controlled temperature. When ammonia molecules were externally added onto an ice film at a temperature of 80 K, ammonia coverage with regard to ice was 0.12-0.16 ML. The intensity of ammonia molecules on the surface of ice decreased as time increased and the extent of decreased intensity of ammonia increased as controlled temperature increased. Moreover, energy barrier was estimated to be $51kJmol^{-1}$ on amorphous ice film. The results of the experiment indicate that ammonia molecules have a property of vertical diffusion into amorphous ice and the energy barrier of ammonia diffusion into bulk of ice is higher than that of hydrogen bonding.

An experimental study on occurrence of intermediate peaks in ice load signals

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between the occurrence of intermediate peak and time duration, and to conduct a review for the causes of the intermediate peak. In this test, ice impact tests were conducted using a bow side shell frame and ice specimen. A total of 70 samples were manufactured. Two types of ice specimen with relatively different surface conditions were used. The criterion for dividing the two types of ice specimen was the different exposure times to room temperature after freezing. This experiment was conducted for each parameter in order to reproduce the actual icebreaking situation. As a result of the analysis, the intermediate peak in the ice load signal have been found to be caused by mechanisms by which the inner surface of broken ice contact with hull immediately after the initial hitting point of ice has been broken.

Effect of Frozen Storage Temperature on the Quality of Premium Ice Cream

  • The market sales of premium ice cream have paralleled the growth in consumer desire for rich flavor and taste. Storage temperature is a major consideration in preserving the quality attributes of premium ice cream products for both the manufacturer and retailers during prolonged storage. We investigated the effect of storage temperature (−18℃, −30℃, −50℃, and −70℃) and storage times, up to 52 wk, on the quality attributes of premium ice cream. Quality attributes tested included ice crystal size, air cell size, melting resistance, and color. Ice crystal size increased from 40.3 µm to 100.1 µm after 52 wk of storage at −18℃. When ice cream samples were stored at −50℃ or −70℃, ice crystal size slightly increased from 40.3 µm to 57-58 µm. Initial air cell size increased from 37.1 µm to 87.7 µm after storage at −18℃ for 52 wk. However, for storage temperatures of −50℃ and −70℃, air cell size increased only slightly from 37.1 µm to 46-47 µm. Low storage temperature (−50℃ and −70℃) resulted in better melt resistance and minimized color changes in comparison to high temperature storage (−18℃ and −30℃). In our study, quality changes in premium ice cream were gradually minimized according to decrease in storage temperature up to−50℃. No significant beneficial effect of −70℃ storage was found in quality attributes. In the scope of our experiment, we recommend a storage temperature of −50℃ to preserve the quality attributes of premium ice cream.

쇄빙 유조선과 일반 유조선의 저항특성 비교연구 (Comparison Study on the Resistance Characteristics of an Arctic Tanker and a General Tanker)

  • The hull form of icebreaking tanker depends on the trade route and ice characteristic. The hull form has to be designed for icebreaking concept if the vessel is operating in heavy ice and also the hull from has to be optimized for general tanker when the ship is operating in ice-free ocean. This paper presents comparison of ship resistance in pack ice, level ice and open water. Four ships are used to compare the resistance characteristic. One is conventional tanker and three ships are icebreaking tankers. The ice model test was carried out at the IOT (Institute for Ocean Technology, Newfoundland, Canada) and open water test was performed at 55MB (Samsung Ship Model Basin). The ice resistance of conventional tanker was predicted by Colbourne's method. The resistance of open water, pack ice and level ice are compared and discussed. The best hull form of icebreaker is not good in open water performance compare to conventional tanker. This result explains that the hull form of icebreaker and normal tanker have to compromise when the ship is operated in ice and ice-free condition. The result of this paper gives a guide for icebreaking tanker design.
