통사문법적 지식이 '독서기계'의 음성출력에 미치는 영향과 중요성 (The Influence and Impact of syntactic-grammatical knowledge on the Phonetic Outputs of a 'Reading Machine')

  • 인공지능, 딥러닝, 머신러닝 등이 괄목할만한 발전을 이루면서 2016년경부터 100여개의 언어를 비롯하여 가장 보편적으로 사용되어 온 Google Translate (구글기계번역기)는 자연언어처리(NLP) 분야와 외국어 학습 등 언어활용 분야에 독보적인 역할을 하고 있다. 본 논문은 구글기계번역기, Google Translate에 있어서, 영어모국어화자가 가진 통사문법적-범주적 지식의 중요성과 그 영향력에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. Jackendoff (1999)는 맹인을 위한 독서기계(Reading Machine)등을 구축하려면 통사구조적 지식과 문법적 분해력(parsing)이 매우 중요하고, 적어도 현재의 컴퓨터는 엄청난 발전을 이루기는 하였으나, 인간의 두뇌를 따라갈 수 없다는 결론을 내렸다. Jackendoff가 논의했던 몇 가지 어휘항목과 통사구조적 중의성을 활용하여, Google Translate 기계발음번역기를 통해 그의 주장을 확인하는 실험을 실시하고, 그 결과를 분석하는 것이 이 논문의 목표이다. 이 연구는 Jackendoff의 주장처럼 L1 화자가 내재화한 통사문법적, 범주-구조적 지식은 NLP, 혹은 "독서기계"등의 구축에서 중요하며, 이는 Chomsky (1986, 2005)등에서 논의된 내재적언어 (I-language)의 핵심이라는 점을 시사한다.

  • In this paper, the design method, design techniques and structure of a language for a SCARA type industrial robot, are presented. The proposed new language is modular and expandable using the C programming language and the 8086 assembly language. It is composed of monitor mode which controls the main flow of the programs, editing mode which generates, corrects and edits the programs, execution mode which executes the generated programs, I/O mode which interacts with the external devices, and teach mode. The developed language is implemented on the robot controller to verify its performance.

  • In smart grid system which uses photovoltaic system, fuel cells and so on, a program implemented with C language is used for control and measurement. When using programs implemented with C language GUI is difficult to watch control and monitor the smart grid system. But LabVIEW is a graphical programming language and it is easy to design GUI screen and to manage many variables such as real-time output of electric power including solar cell, wind power system and fuel cell. This paper suggests LabVIEW and C-language TCP/IP communication for smart grid monitoring system i mplemented with C-language.

The Painting Language of American Neo-Expressionist Painter David Sall

  • David Salle, born in Norman, Oklahoma in 1952, is the most important and controversial artist of the new-expressionist painting in the United States. His paintings are featured by unique artistic language, and extremely diverse and very ground-breaking expression, which reflect the American society at that time. Besides, he often uses complex image combination with striking colors and forms to attract and touch viewers. In this paper, based on the American new-expressionism, the painting language of David Salle's works was analysed, in which I found that it can be more intuitively and more profoundly feel the development of new-expressionist painting context and David Salle's particularity, and more clearly realize under what the characteristics of the era David Salle created the unique artistic language. The study on David Salle's unique painting language is of important research value and reference significance for our current artistic creation.

  • Surveying the literature of architecture since the nineteenth century, one can identify two dominant but problematic attitudes, among several, that pursue the task of defining what modern architecture is and should be. The first is the search for meaning and the second is the pursuit of form. This study, following Michel Foucault, asserts that the dual formation of meaning and form is a historical product of modernity and belies architecture's uncritical dependence on language since the nineteenth century. This study is a critique and historical analysis of this pernicious reliance, and constitutes a first step towards thinking of alternative relations between 'words and architecture' in the modern world. In reconstructing this problematic, the paper has called on Foucault's seminal The Order of Things. The study follows his construction of the Renaissance, the Classical and the Modern episteme, and in brief fashion, reconstructs the relation between language and architecture in each episteme. In analysing the Modern, the study focuses on Hegel's Lectures on Aesthetics. Hegel placed architecture in a genre hierarchy within which architecture, because of its material basis, was fundamentally limited in its ability to express the Spirit. For Hegel it was, among the arts, poetic language, and beyond art, the language of philosophy, through which the Absolute Spirit could be atttained. Much of post-nineteenth century architecture has remained within the shadow of Hegel, where architecture's materiality is perceived to be a burden, and in order to secure its relevance in modern society, architecture was deemed to pursue the role of language. As the most recent and sophisticated example of architecture's pursuit of form, the paper analyses the work of Peter Eisenman. Though Eisenman's theoretical writings are replete with post-Hegelian rhetoric, his architecture remains dependent upon the model of language, albeit a structuralist one. The paper concludes that ultimately, the pursuit of meaning and form is unable to face the crucial issue of value in modernity. While the former decides to easily what it is, the latter evades the issue itself. The second installment of this ongoing study will pursue a third possibility alluded to by Foucault, where language remains silent, pointing only to its 'ponderous' material existence.

중국인 학습자의 한국어 모음 습득에 대한 제2언어 습득 모델 비교 연구 (A Comparative Study of Second Language Acquisition Models: Focusing on Vowel Acquisition by Chinese Learners of Korean)

  • This study provided longitudinal examination of the Chinese learners' acquisition of Korean vowels. Specifically, I examined the Chinese learners' Korean monophthongs /i, e, ɨ, ${\Lambda}$, a, u, o/ that were created at the time of 1 month and 12 months, tried to verify empirically how they learn by dealing with their mother tongue, and Korean vowels through dealing with pattern of the Perceptual Assimilation Model (henceforth PAM) of Best (Best, 1993; 1994; Best & Tyler, 2007) and the Speech Learning Model (henceforth SLM) of Flege (Flege, 1987; Bohn & Flege, 1992, Flege, 1995). As a result, most of the present results are shown to be similarly explained by the PAM and SLM, and the only discrepancy between these two models is found in the 'similar' category of sounds between the learners' native language and the target language. Specifically, the acquisition pattern of /u/ and /o/ in Korean is well accounted for the PAM, but not in the SLM. The SLM did not explain why the Chinese learners had difficulty in acquiring the Korean vowel /u/, because according to the SLM, the vowel /u/ in Chinese (the native language) is matched either to the vowel /u/ or /o/ in Korean (the target language). Namely, there is only a one-to-one matching relationship between the native language and the target language. In contrast, the Chinese learners' difficulty for the Korean vowel /u/ is well accounted for in the PAM in that the Chinese vowel /u/ is matched to the vowel pair /o, u/ in Korean, not the single vowel, /o/ or /u/.

  • This study had been done to investigate that early childhood teacher's recognition and demand on children's language education and 20 early childhood teachers were interviewed individually who work at state-owned/ public-owned/ private-owned kindergardens residing G, I, and K cities in Jeollabuk-do. First, the purpose of language education was recognized on the formations of essence, concept, expertise, technique and attitude toward language. Second, the contents of language education must be selected by children's experience that they encounter in ordinary life based on oral language and written language. Besides, early childhood teachers strongly felt the necessity of new contents of language education, although they thought of insufficiency of their knowledge on the issue. Third, the method of language education was mainly accomplished by teaching material and objects. Besides, they were aware of looking for new organized teaching methods and also concerned of the importances of teacher's attitude and group formation method. Fourth, the evaluation of language education must be acquired by desirable evaluation method that was based on the recognition of children's unrealistic language capabilities, even though they had recognized the difficulty to do because of knowledge insufficiency. They also showed the tendency of negligence on the evaluation of language education. Fifth, the required facts for early childhood teachers on language education were development and supply of teaching materials, demand on teacher's education and appropriate evaluation method, and cognitive changes on language education by public toward the written language.

Implicit Arguments in English Middles

  • In this study I investigate two implicit arguments in English middles: discharged argument and event argument. I argue that in middle formation external argument is discharged and event argument is suppressed. The proposal can account for the problems with the previous studies (Williams 1981; Keyser and Reoper 1984: Roberts 1987: Fagan 1988, 1992: Chung 2000). When a middle derives from the corresponding transitive verb, the subject argument is discharged, being an implicit argument. Argument discharge is different from argument suppression in the passives and argument deletion in the ergatives. I also argue that event argument is suppressed in middle formation. Event argument suppression is supported by the following: (i) The transitive verbs are always eventive but the corresponding middles are stative, and (ii) the middles are underlyingly eventive, (iii) the middles are “adorned” by certain manner adverbials.

완결성 교체현상과 사건구조 (Telicity Variability and the Event Structure.)

  • This paper deals with the telicity variability on the point of Pustejovsky's (2000) event structures. Accomplishments and achievements have been known to show the telicity. According to Hay, Kennedy, and Levin (1999), however, open-range predicate in degree achievements, which do not show telicity, can show telicity in certain context. In order to explain this kind of telicity variability systematically, I will discuss Pustejovsky's (1995) Generative Lexicon Theory and the co-composition generative mechanism in section 2. In section 3, I will discuss Hay, Kennedy, and Levin's (1999) telicity variability and Lee Chungmin's (2000) modified extended lexical structure. In section 4, I will introduce Pustejovsky's (2000) event structures and modify them a little. And I will argue that the modified event structures can explain the telicity variability with the co-composition generative mechanism efficiently.
