Behavior of cable-stayed bridges built over faults

  • Cable-stayed bridges are commonly used in modern bridge engineering for covering long spans. In some special cases, the designer is obliged to build such a bridge over an existing fault. Activation of this fault is possible to bring about a relative displacement or separation movement between two neighboring pylons of the bridge built on opposite sides of the fault. In this work, the effect of such a fault-induced pylon displacement on bridge's deformations and on cables' strength is thoroughly studied for several types of cable-stayed bridges and useful conclusions are drawn aiming the design. The influence of a possible earthquake and traffic loads crossing the bridge when the pylons are moving away from each other is not examined.

  • Now, this time we regarde as daylife is a part of culture in novelty view of modern culture study. Specially, we can see terms about style surfing supermarket style through visulization process for critic, combination, reconstruction, of modernism, that is post modernism. Our view for fashion could be new in the technology, mixed media, cyber situation is stimulated us and accepted in extened concept of culture. In this study, I approched as a view of streetism cyber punkism haute couture Romanticism linked extension concept of culture. Haute couture fashion has the most historical, and constructive and decorative aspects, and regarded as principle of construction of deconstruction. And this season trend is romantic & emotional image are complexed.

  • We propose an approach to extract and to classify facial features into some classes from one's photo as prepared classification standards to generate one's avatar. Facial Feature Extraction and Classification was executed at eyes, nose, lips, jaw separately and I presented each facial features and classification standards. Extracted Facial Features are used for calculation to features of professional designer's facial component images. Then, most similar facial component images are mapped onto avatar's vector face.

  • More than five pulleys are used in an automobile, such as crankshaft, water pump, air-con compressor, fan and power steering pump pulley. These pulleys are parts that need durability until retiring a car. But there is no design criterion for durability, so pulleys are designed by the experience of designer and trial and error. So, in this study, we carried out stress analysis at durability test condition and compared analysis results to durability test results. It is found that the design criterion for durability is defined as a safety factor and a safety factor is different according to the distance between the center line of v-grooves and the mating surface.

  • This Study is concerned with the present condition and prospect of architectural stained glass in Korea. Stained glass had been architectural art from the origin. But it had declined since the Renaissance era, and began to revive in the early 20th century. The stained glass inflowed with church architecture occasionally by the western missionaries. And it has been developed actively since 1980' with the boom in church building. There are about 30 studios which are making stained glass in Korea, but very few studio work true architectural stained glass. Stained glass is still treated as simple decoration or 2-dimensional mosaic. Architect and interior designer even have little understanding of architectural character of stained glass.I have considered the problems and prospected architectural stained glass which inspire modern architecture with human sensitivity in Korea.

  • Since late 20th century, modern society formed various thinkings. Therefore, moderns wished to exuviate law and standardization. Together, fast economic growth increased moderns' travel, These phenomenons became development opportunity of the hotel. Moderns want new culture and experience. Also, moderns preferred the special design hotels which can do different experience. I choose three typical designer of the design hotel and Wish to study about their design access method design hotel. Because their design's character have effect on other design hotel design. Therefore, this study should like to become design access method of design hotel.

  • In the concept design stage of the product design process, it is desirable that a designer makes alternative designs sufficiently, examines and analyzes them, and finally determines an appropriate design. To efficiently investigate several alternative designs, it should be facilitated to modify the model and transfer the model data to analysis program. In this research, a concept design process for tank is automated using I-DEAS feature-based modeling system from SDRC. Additionally, the facility for the pre-estimation of the performance of product, the useful volume calculation, the mass calculation, the confirmation of the allowable workspae, and the interface to analysis propram are developed using API functions of OPen-link and Open-data. Graphic User Interface (GUI) makes it extrmely easy to utilize functions.

Structure Design of Artificial Neural Networks using Genetic Algorithm (유전적 알고리즘을 이용한 인공신경망의 구조 설계)

  • Artificial Neural Networks(ANN) have been successfully applied to various kinds of business and engineering problems, especially those involved in pattern classification. However, because of the lack of design standard or guidelines, the structure of specific ANN depends on the designer's own experiments or choices. In other words, even though we could construct a better ANN, we often steeled down with just a satisfactory ANN. The purpose of this research is to apply the Genetic Algorithm(GA) to design a structure of ANN that yields better performance compared to the existing test results. For a bankruptcy prediction problem. an exiting research using ANN which consists of 22 input processing elements(PEs) for financial ratios and 5 hidden PEs showed 70% hit ratio. In our research, the input financial ratios and the number of hidden PEs are determined by GA. The best ANN, which consists of 8 input PEs and 6 hidden PEs, shows 78.03% hit ratio. In addition, we compare the performance of two types of reproduction schemes, i.e., generational reproduction and steady-state reproduction.

  • People have their own cultural backgrounds and experiences in terms of visual perceptional thinking so that they could misunderstand the cultural symbols, trademarks, Brand Identities, and trade characters, especially, animal trademarks. Sometimes Easterners and Westerners seem to not comprehend the different meanings of the cultural symbols. The signs of twelve Chinese zodiac animals are the typical symbol of the Asian mythology. What I wanted to focus on emphasizing the different views and perspective of an animal trademark is according to the Chinese Zodiac between Eastern and Western cultures. Generally, multiple symbolisms are difficult to comprehend, because they are created by individual ideas and incorporate several mythologies and histories. How do Westerners interpret the implied meaning of Eastern animals in general? How are they going to understand the Eastern animal logos or marks accurately? How can we solve the problem to make people understand their different meanings? There were some confusing pictorial images in the area of the design field when a designer creates an animal mark for globalization and localization. Creating of hybrid symbol is the best way to break the communication barriers with people all around the world.

Analytic and Discrete Fairing of 3D NURBS Curves (3D NURBS 곡선의 해석적 및 이산적 순정)

  • For reverse engineering, curves and surfaces are modeled for new products by interpolating the digitized data points. But there are many measuring or deviation errors. Therefore, it is important to handle errors during the curve or surface modeling. If the errors are ignored, designer could get undesirable results. For this reason, fairing procedure with the aesthetics criteria is necessary in computer modeling. This paper presents methods of 3D NURBS curve fairing. The techniques are based on automatic repositioning of the digitized dat points or the NURBS curve control points by a constrained nonlinear optimization algorithm. The objective function is derived variously by derived curved. Constraints are distance measures between the original and the modified digitized data points. Changes I curve shape are analyzed by illustrations of curve shapes, and continuous plotting of curvature and torsion.
