This is a report on a new methodology to manage design knowledge by utilizing a knowledge-based CAD and a prototype system named $C^3$ (Cubic; CAD knowledge Code Capacitor), which is being developed using our methodology. $C^3$ facilitates (i) the automatic generation of a knowledge code for a knowledge-based CAD by processing design documents written in the format near the natural language, such as English or Japanese, and (ii) automatically generation of a design document written in the format near the natural language from the knowledge code. The features of the system facilitate document-based design knowledge management which reduces the designer's load to encode and maintain design knowledge, because it is easier for a designer to treat a natural language description than a coded description.

ADE i,1 a software tool for the design and implementation of multi-agent systems. ADE allows a designer to draw a multi-agent system graphically, specify the necessary properties, and deploy their applications. ADE offers a set of intuitive, easy to use interfaces that enable a designer to completely specify the agents and agent interactions in a multi-agent system. In this environment, JATLite/sup ［1］/ is improved significantly. Furthermore, ADE provides a unique set of features for a multi-agent system design tool. An agent description method based on Design roadmap/sup ［2］/ theory, a hierarchy of agents, and a fully featured Java-based Graphical User Interface are combined in ADE. This distinct combination of features mates ADE stand out among the existing multi-agent system design tools. This paper presents the research related to the application of the ADE, along with descriptions of its design and implementation.

Grid serves as an auxiliary instrument that explains design logically and objectively when you designing an interior. But grid is unacceptable to the space which is produced by designer who wants to express a design subjectively. Because grid makes usual and standardized space without flexibility. Changing and developing a fundamental unit with modern touch is going to be a way compensate for the weakpoint Also versatile grid unit can support the designer's subjective intention. This study focuses on the limits of Wright's house which show interior space aestheically through grid planing. In this paper Wright's uniqe interior space pattern will be examined through the selection of some of his works specifically the Prairies and Usonians whose transforming is noticable as Wright house and analysis about formation process of grid planning characteristics and spaces is continued. With all this analysis I'm, going to look over Wright's philosophy and pattern that is usually intended by his grid planning.

This paper aims to provide a multi-dimensional integrative model that can give a comprehensive account for human space experience. Human space experience is too complicated phenomenon, so space designer need to understand about mechanism of space cognition. From psychological point of view, I analyze the mechanism that is based on emotional reaction. This model consist of three dimensions: sensory, reflexive, and reflective dimension. Assuming this model, we have attempt the typological analysis to the space by studying human space experience. Finally, the outcome provides how space designer use this effect for application of human experience.

The initial selection of plants is the decisive step in the ultimate success of any landscape planting. This study intended to establish a reasonable selecting criteria of tree in the landscape through the holistic consideration of aesthetic, functional, cultural, operational and ecological viewpoints. The matrices of evaluating the fitness of tree were modulated to 10 categories ; availability from the established nursery. aesthetic value, indigenous to the locality, maintenance, soil fertility requirement, environmental tolerances. growth rate. wild-life food production. use of plants in design and user's likes. This 10 categories were weighted to their fitness as high(10 points), medium(8 points) and low(5points). Thus suitable plants were identified which got 70 more points from total 100 points. Such a method was believed as a rational process to get trust from client. to persuade uneducated client and to be free from designer's prejudice through a case study. But it is important to landscape designer to recognize the relationship between the rationality which prevails throughout the modern technical world and the intuitive aspects of design that are essential for developing creative solutions to encourage creativity as well as analytical responsibility.

This study is a practical research for setting a process of making references of design decision and guidlines of limitation in the movement from the design development to the construction design by StrAuto. StrAuto, as a parametric modeling and optimization tool for building structure, enables a quantity of design cases to be analyzed automatically by changing parameters of sturctural properties. So the designer using StrAuto can check a lot of analysis data crossing thousands of cases, see which case is out of acceptable range, and make a decision for design and optimization. In this thesis, the application of StrAuto optimization process to the residence tower UIC project shows the practical applicability in the construction design and value engineering. StrAuto optimized ideally volume of core walls by 31.3% and lead the final revised model applied to the construction design to reduce volume by 18.1%. The significance of this research is the implementation of process that the designer can quickly review a number of cases and get a direction for construction design and optimization after design development.

In the process of product design, shaping is the process of making a substantive existence, and ultimately it generates the outcome. The process of shaping is generally led by designer's initiative work, and in this process, various formative elements are used to generate the outcome. In this research, the basic purposes are to figure out the differences of elements which generated by the differences of consumer's and designer's view in the process of shaping of the product, and the characteristics of the affective responses caused by those differences. Also, it will examine how the consumers can directly participate in the process of the shaping of the consumer-participated product, and the feasible guidelines of design in which consumers' needs can be reflected more efficiently to the process of shaping. As a result, consumers and designers have certain degree of difference of view-point about the formative element of the shape. The difference was due to subjective common ideas of design in case of designers, and in case of consumers, it was due to their immature visual understanding. There is another experiment of affective response about the shape of the product. First, I established the sensible image vocabulary based on the shape of the product. And based on the vocabulary, I carried out the same experiments to the consumers and designers.

Korean textile industry is faced a turning point, And the culture of a country itself is getting a main competetive items. Therefore, this study is focused upon developing fashion items of Korean image. For this study purpose, I carried out literature review and questionnaires were surveyed with 129 women, to see how Korean women interested in costume are conscious of Korean image and the way to develop Korean image fashion items. The study results are as follows. 1. To Koreans, the elements of Korean image were Hanbok(Korean traditional cloths) and Saeckdong(traditional multi-coloured stripes), but to foreigners they were national image. 2. To develop competetive fashion items of Korean image, I recommend as follows. - set up a typical key-word of Korean image - promote top designer - globalization of Hanbok - take advantage of 2002 Wold Cup - bring Korean image fashion into vogue to the younger from domestic to abroad - make Korean image into universal fashion - start with accessories, hats, bags, scarves

There are relatively abundant guide lines on designing taking a side view of aesthetics though most of guidelines are based on designer's intuition and common sense. This study focuses on design methodology what can bring about the sensibility from users which coincides with the purpose of the web sites, breaking from the design which was focused on efficient usability. For this approach we applied color scheme to web design based on sensibility model of I.R.I Color Laboratory. Effective color scheme can build up and enhance the sensibility communication between designers and users.

Design of electronic circuit should be both economical and reliable. If we put weight on economy, reliability will be lessened vice versa. But in some cases, a Designer should do exact design looking down upon economy. Especially, in integrated circuit, we should design as exactly as possible without much tolerance. In my thesis, I have studied the method for the exact design without much consideration in economy, and I also have developed Monte carlo Simulation program which can be operated by new generation of pseudo random number. Here, in my study, I have found out that new generation of pseudo random number was much more superior to any methods suggested by orthers.
