초경량 사물인터넷을 위한 비휘발성램 스토리지 성능평가 및 분석 (Performance Evaluation and Analysis of NVM Storage for Ultra-Light Internet of Things)

  • 최근 통신 빛 반도체 기술의 급격한 발전과 함께 소규모 기기에도 컴퓨팅 기능을 탑재하는 사물인터넷 시장이 부상하고 있다. 사물인터넷을 위한 저장장치는 전력소모와 물리적 크기에 제한이 있어 기존 HDD나 SSD 대신 NVRAM 기반의 스토리지가 사용될 것으로 전망되고 있다. 그러나 현재 사물인터넷 플랫폼 기술은 기존의 전통적인 스토리지를 타겟으로 설계되어 NVRAM 스토리지에서는 다양한 비효율성을 초래할 수 있다. 본 논문은 현재의 다양한 운영체제의 I/O 기법들의 효용성과 성능을 NVRAM 스토리지 환경에서 평가하고 분석하여 향후 사물인터넷을 위한 스토리지 기술에 대해 방향성을 제시한다.

Thin Films for Environmental Application and Energy Devices

  • We aim in synthesizing various functional thin films thinner than ~ 10 nm for environmental applications and photovoltaic devices. Atomic layer deposition is used for synthesizing inorganic thin films with a precise control of the film thickness. Several examples about application of our thin films for removing volatile organic compounds (VOC) will be highlighted, which are summarized in the below. 1) $TiO_2$ thin films prepared by ALD at low temperature ($<100^{\circ}C$) show high adsorption capacity for toluene. In combination with nanostructured templates, $TiO_2$ thin films can be used as building-block of high-performing VOC filter. 2) $TiO_2$ thin films on carbon fibers and nanodiamonds annealed at high temperatures are active for photocatalytic oxidation of VOCs, i.e. photocatalytic filter can be created by atomic layer deposition. 3) NiO can catalyze oxidation of toluene to $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ at $<300^{\circ}C$. $TiO_2$ thin films on NiO can reduce poisoning of NiO surfaces by reaction intermediates below $200^{\circ}C$. We also fabricated inverted organic solar cell based on ZnO electron collecting layers on ITO. $TiO_2$ thin films with a mean diameter less than 3 nm on ZnO can enhance photovoltaic performance by reducing electron-hole recombination on ZnO surfaces.

수소 플라즈마 처리된 산화 아연 나노선의 자외선 발광 특성향상 (Improvement of UV Photoluminescence of Hydrogen Plasma Treated ZnO Nanowires)

  • Au 촉매를 코팅한 사파이어 기판 상에서 산화아연과 흑연 분말을 혼합한 분말재료를 이용하여 VLS (vapor-liquid-solid) 법으로 산화아연 반도체 나노선을 합성하였다. 제조된 산화아연 나노선은 380 nm에서 근 자외선 영역의 NBE (near-band edge) 발광과 600 nm 부근의 가시광선 영역에서 넓게 퍼져 발광하는 상대적으로 강한 DL (deep level) 발광이 확인되었다($I_{NBE}/I_{DL}$ <1). 산화아연 나노선을 효율적인 단일 파장 자외선 발광체에 적용될 수 있도록 NBE 발광을 극대화함과 동시에 DL 발광을 억제시키기 위하여 본 실험에서는 합성된 산화아연 나노선에 수소 플라즈마 처리를 하였다. 플라즈마 처리시간이 길어짐에 따라(120초 이상) 발광특성의 향상정도는 점차로 감소하였지만, 수소 플라즈마 처리를 통해 나노선 내부에 존재하는 불순물 제어 등으로 다소 짧은 시간의 플라즈마 처리로(90초 이내) DL발광대비 NBE발광의 세기가 약 4배로 향상됨을 확인 하였다($I_{NBE}/I_{DL}$ ~4).

ZnO nanostructures for e-paper and field emission display applications

  • Electrochromic (EC) devices are capable of reversibly changing their optical properties upon charge injection and extraction induced by the external voltage. The characteristics of the EC device, such as low power consumption, high coloration efficiency, and memory effects under open circuit status, make them suitable for use in a variety of applications including smart windows and electronic papers. Coloration due to reduction or oxidation of redox chromophores can be used for EC devices (e-paper), but the switching time is slow (second level). Recently, with increasing demand for the low cost, lightweight flat panel display with paper-like readability (electronic paper), an EC display technology based on dye-modified $TiO_2$ nanoparticle electrode was developed. A well known organic dye molecule, viologen, was adsorbed on the surface of a mesoporous $TiO_2$ nanoparticle film to form the EC electrode. On the other hand, ZnO is a wide bandgap II-VI semiconductor which has been applied in many fields such as UV lasers, field effect transistors and transparent conductors. The bandgap of the bulk ZnO is about 3.37 eV, which is close to that of the $TiO_2$ (3.4 eV). As a traditional transparent conductor, ZnO has excellent electron transport properties, even in ZnO nanoparticle films. In the past few years, one-dimension (1D) nanostructures of ZnO have attracted extensive research interest. In particular, 1D ZnO nanowires renders much better electron transportation capability by providing a direct conduction path for electron transport and greatly reducing the number of grain boundaries. These unique advantages make ZnO nanowires a promising matrix electrode for EC dye molecule loading. ZnO nanowires grow vertically from the substrate and form a dense array (Fig. 1). The ZnO nanowires show regular hexagonal cross section and the average diameter of the ZnO nanowires is about 100 nm. The cross-section image of the ZnO nanowires array (Fig. 1) indicates that the length of the ZnO nanowires is about $6\;{\mu}m$. From one on/off cycle of the ZnO EC cell (Fig. 2). We can see that, the switching time of a ZnO nanowire electrode EC cell with an active area of $1\;{\times}\;1\;cm^2$ is 170 ms and 142 ms for coloration and bleaching, respectively. The coloration and bleaching time is faster compared to the $TiO_2$ mesoporous EC devices with both coloration and bleaching time of about 250 ms for a device with an active area of $2.5\;cm^2$. With further optimization, it is possible that the response time can reach ten(s) of millisecond, i.e. capable of displaying video. Fig. 3 shows a prototype with two different transmittance states. It can be seen that good contrast was obtained. The retention was at least a few hours for these prototypes. Being an oxide, ZnO is oxidation resistant, i.e. it is more durable for field emission cathode. ZnO nanotetropods were also applied to realize the first prototype triode field emission device, making use of scattered surface-conduction electrons for field emission (Fig. 4). The device has a high efficiency (field emitted electron to total electron ratio) of about 60%. With this high efficiency, we were able to fabricate some prototype displays (Fig. 5 showing some alphanumerical symbols). ZnO tetrapods have four legs, which guarantees that there is one leg always pointing upward, even using screen printing method to fabricate the cathode.

공침법으로 제조된 $\textrm{SnO}_2-\textrm{In}_2\textrm{O}_3$ 계의 가스감응특성 및 감응기구 (Gas Sensing Properties and Mechanism of the $\textrm{SnO}_2-\textrm{In}_2\textrm{O}_3$ System Prepared by Coprecipitation Method)

  • 공침법을 이용하여 $\textrm{In}_{2}\textrm{O}_{3}$가 0-10 wt.% 첨가된 $\textrm{SnO}_{2}$ 계 미세 분말을 합성한 후, 스크린 인쇄법(screen printing)으로 후막형 가스센서를 제조하고 탄화수소($\textrm{C}_{3}\textrm{H}_{8}$, $\textrm{C}_{4}\textrm{H}_{10}$) 가스에 대하여 가스 감응 특성을 조사하였다. $\textrm{In}_{2}\textrm{O}_{3}$$\textrm{SnO}_{2}$의 입자 성장을 억제시키기 위하여 첨가해 주었는데, $600^{\circ}C$에서 하소한 후에도 수 nm 크기의 미세한 입자를 얻을 수 있었다. 공침시 pH 값은 $\textrm{SnO}_{2}$ 의 입자 크기에 영향을 거의 미치지 않은 반면, $\textrm{In}_{2}\textrm{O}_{3}$ 첨가량은 입자 크기와 미세 구조에 큰 영향을 주었다. $\textrm{In}_{2}\textrm{O}_{3}$ 첨가량이 증가할수록 입자 크기는 감소하고 비표면적은 증가하였으며, 센세의 동작 온도를 약 $500^{\circ}C$로 하여 측정한 가스 감응 특성은 3wt.% 첨가했을 때 최대 감도를 나타내고 그 이상의 첨가량에서는 오히려 저하되었다. 3wt.%의 In2O3첨가시 $\textrm{SnO}_{2}$의 입자 크기와 비표면적은 각각 9.5nm, 38$\m^2$/g이었다. 임피던스 측정으로부터 얻은 단일 반원의 Nyquist curve와 선형의 전류-전압(1-V)특성 곡선으로부터, $\textrm{In}_{2}\textrm{O}_{3}$를 첨가하여 수nm로 입자 크기를 억제한 $\textrm{SnO}_{2}$ 계 가스센서는 미세 입자들끼리 형성한 치밀한 응집체와 이들 간의 계면(boundary)에 의해서 가스 감응 특성이 영향을 받음을 알 수 있었다.

Eu-doped LGF Luminescent Down Converter Possible for TiO2 Dye Sensitized Solar Cells

  • For improving solar efficiencies, down conversion of high-energy photons to visible lights is discussed. The losses due to thermalization of charge carriers generated by the absorption of high-energy photons, can largely be reduced in a solar cell if more than one electron-hole pair can be generated per incident photon. The solar cell was constructed of dye-sensitized anatase-based TiO$_2$, approximately 30nm particle size, 6$\mu\textrm{m}$thickness, and 6${\times}$6$\textrm{mm}^2$ active area, Pt counter electrode and I$_3$$\^$-/I$_2$$\^$-/ electrolyte. After correction for losses due to light reflection and absorption by the conducting glass, the conversion of photons to electric current is practically quantitative in the plateau region of the curves. The incident photon to current conversion efficiency(IPCE) of N3 used as a dye in this work is about 80% at around 590nm and 610nm which is the emission spectrum of Eu doped LGF. The Eu doped LGF powder was prepared by conventional ceramic process, and used as a down converter for DSC after spin coated on the slide glass and fired.

  • Point of Production/Manufacturing Execution Systems are an essential component of operations in today's competitive business environments, which require greater production efficiency and effectiveness. POP/MES focuses on the valuing-adding processes, helping to reduce manufacturing cycle time, improve product quality, reduce WIP, reduce or eliminate paperwork between shifts, reduce lead time and empowering plant operations staff. In this paper, we implement POP/MES to manage real-time plant floor data which is gathered by I/O server into database management system. I/O server is a software allows data exchange between factory real-time database and several hardware devices such as PLC, DCS, robot and sensor through ethernet TCP/IP protocol.

  • Today's and tomorrow's processors and I/O devices are demanding much higher I/O bandwidth than PCI 2.3 or PCI-X can deliver and it is time to engineer a new generation of PCI to serve as a standard I/O bus for future generation platforms. According to this demand the PCI SIG proposed PCI Express. This paper describes about the design of PCI Express Behavioral Model. A Behavioral Model enables the designers to test whether the design specifications are met by performing computer simulations rather than experiments on the physical prototype. In the proposed Model, we can verify whether our design concept satisfies the PCI Express functional protocol.

Design of an Efficient In-Memory Journaling File System for Non-Volatile Memory Media

  • Journaling file systems are widely used to keep file systems in a consistent state against crash situations. As traditional journaling file systems are designed for block I/O devices like hard disks, they are not efficient for emerging byte-addressable NVM (non-volatile memory) media. In this article, we present a new in-memory journaling file system for NVM that is different from traditional journaling file systems in two respects. First, our file system journals only modified portions of metadata instead of whole blocks based on the byte-addressable I/O feature of NVM. Second, our file system bypasses the heavy software I/O stack while journaling by making use of an in-memory file system interface. Measurement studies using the IOzone benchmark show that the proposed file system performs 64.7% better than Ext4 on average.

상보형 일렉트로크로믹 소자의 제조 및 특성 ( I ) (Characteristics and Fabrication of Complementary Electrochromic Device ( I ))

  • 본 연구에서는 비정질 $WO_{3}$ 박막을 작용전극으로 $V_{2}O_{5}$ 박막과 NiO 박막을 각각의 대향전극으로 사용한 두 종류의 상보형 일렉트로크로믹 소자를 제작하고 그 특성을 조사 연구하였다. 그 결과 $100{\sim}150nm$ 두께로 진공증착된 $V_{2}O_{5}$ 박막을 대향전극으로 이용하여 제작된 $ITO/WO_{3}/LiClO_{4}-PC/V_{2}O_{5}/ITO$ 구조의 상보형 소자에서는 $1{\sim}2V$ 정도의 낮은 인가전압에서 광변조량이 $50{\sim}60%$를 나타내는 우수한 특성을 나타냈다. 그리고, RF 반응성 스퍼터링 방법으로 제작된 NiO 박막을 대향전극으로 이용한 $ITO/WO_{3}/LiClO_{4}-PC/NiO/ITO$ 구조의 경우 1.5V의 인가전압에 가시광선 영역(${\lambda}=550nm$)에서 약 25% 정도, 근적외선 영역(${\lambda}=850nm$)에서 약 30% 정도의 태양광을 변조할 수 있는 특성을 보였다.
