  • A Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) has been widely studied for practical use due to recent development on technology of power electronics. Because of its advantage that are high speed driving, simple structure and easy variable-speed control, it is expected for applications to automo biles and others. However, it has some problems that are, for examples, relatively high torque ripples and electromagnetic noise. In this paper, a simple theory is presented to represent characteristic of a SRM and theoretical results are compared with experimental ones. In the theory, the inductance variations of a SRM are approximated as linear and winding resistances and the magnetic saturation are ignored. With these approximations, we derived some equations expressing load characteristics of a SRM. Also, the torque ripple was removed by applying a variable hysteresis band control.

  • A time-delay compensation method for vector control system is proposed that can compensate for voltage and current distortions resulting from a time delay in the overall system due to the low pass filter, hysteresis control inverter, microprocessor program computation time, and so on. The proposed scheme estimates the time delay using the difference between the Q-axis stator current command and the time-delayed actual Q-axis stator current in a synchronous reference frame, then compensates the time delay in the voltage and current using the angular displacement of a DQ transformation. Accordingly, the proposed scheme can accurately compensate for the time delay related to the overall system, thereby significantly improving the performance of the vector control system, as verified by simulation and experiment.

  • Among the automotive steering systems, an Electric Power Assisted steering (EPAS) system utilizes an electronically controlled electric motor to provide steering assistance to the driver. The key components of the EPAS system are torque sensor, ECU (Electronic Control Unit), and DC Motor. The most important component of the EPAS is the torque sensor. The conventional torque sensor has complicated mechanical mechanism of torque detection. However, we suggest a non-contact torque sensor for EPAS using Maluss polarization law. It was found that the sensor exhibited not only excellent linearity but also superior characteristics of hysteresis, temperature and vibration.

  • In this paper, a vector control system of current controlled PWM inverter-induction motor drive is proposed for quick response control. As the instantaneous value of the stator current must be controlled to accomplish the superior vector control characteristic, the current controlled PWM inverter with hysteresis controller is adopted. Complex vector rotation and calculation are handled with microprocessor software. The superior characterictic of the proposed system is verified with digital simulation and experiment.

  • This paper deals with an automatic design procedure for the minimization of iron core loss in a synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM). The focus of this paper is the design relative to hysteresis loss on the basis of rotor shape of a SynRM in the same torque density. The coupled Finite Elements Analysis (FEA) & Preisach model have been used to evaluate the iron core loss with the rotor shape. The proposed procedure allows to define the rotor geometric dimensions starting from an existing motor or a preliminary design. The iron loss has been reduced with a rotor design variation.

  • It is proposed that a novel method which can compensate the time delay occurs in overall system, when voltage and current is measured, owing to LPF, hysteresis control inverter and microprocessor program computation time. The Proposed scheme estimates the time delay using the difference between Q-axis stator current command and time delayed Q-axis stator current in synchronous reference frame, and compensates the time delay of voltage and current using angular displacement of DQ transformation. The proposed scheme compensates accurately the time delay occurs in overall system. Therefore performance of vector control system is improved highly and it is verified by simulation and experiment.

  • This paper proposes a servo control system of SPMSM (Surface-mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) which essentially uses vector control method. The control system is composed of the PI controller for speed control and the current controller using space voltage vector PWM technique. The high-speed processing of algorithm for vector control and inverter switching for PWM is carried out by TMS320C31 DSP and IGBT module, respectively. The proposed scheme for 2.2kW SPMSM is verified through digital simulations and experiments, which show higher performance than that of traditional hysteresis current control technique.

  • An interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) is receiving increased attention for many industrial applications because of its high torque to inertia ratio, superior power density, and high efficiency. IPMSM is necessary to use the accurate information of the inductace for the precise torque control owing to the reluctance torque. This paper presents two method to measure the each-axis inductance. The first method uses the peak current that is measured by applying the pulsewise voltage on the each position of IPMSM. The second uses the hysteresis loop of the flux and current measured by applying the positive and negative pulsewise voltage alternately on the each-axis.
