This study was started for providing the application method of hyperspectral im age over extreme cold area as the Antarctic. Study area was Terra Nova Bay area which was decided as the candidate of 2nd Antarctic base station. For deciding last location of base station, many researchers tried to analyze the suitability of this study area. Among many suitability indicators, the location and stability of extracted bed rock area were very important. Using many spectral information of hyperspectral data, we tried detecting of bed rock and classifying four rock types. As additionally data, international spectral library of rock were used in this study. At the results, short-infrared wavelength bands were useful in the detection and classification of bed rock.

The purpose of this study is to propose an optimal fusion method of aerial multi - sensor data to improve the accuracy of land cover classification. Recently, in the fields of environmental impact assessment and land monitoring, high-resolution image data has been acquired for many regions for quantitative land management using aerial multi-sensor, but most of them are used only for the purpose of the project. Hyperspectral sensor data, which is mainly used for land cover classification, has the advantage of high classification accuracy, but it is difficult to classify the accurate land cover state because only the visible and near infrared wavelengths are acquired and of low spatial resolution. Therefore, there is a need for research that can improve the accuracy of land cover classification by fusing hyperspectral sensor data with multispectral sensor and aerial laser sensor data. As a fusion method of aerial multisensor, we proposed a pixel ratio adjustment method, a band accumulation method, and a spectral graph adjustment method. Fusion parameters such as fusion rate, band accumulation, spectral graph expansion ratio were selected according to the fusion method, and the fusion data generation and degree of land cover classification accuracy were calculated by applying incremental changes to the fusion variables. Optimal fusion variables for hyperspectral data, multispectral data and aerial laser data were derived by considering the correlation between land cover classification accuracy and fusion variables.

The objective of this study was to evaluate firmness, and sweetness index (SI) of tomatoes (Lycopersicum esculentum) by using hyperspectral imaging (HSI) in the range of 1000-1400 nm. The mean spectra of the 95 matured tomato samples were extracted from the hyperspectral images, and the reference firmness and sweetness index of the same sample were measured and calibrated with their corresponding spectral data by partial least squares (PLS) regression with different preprocessing method. The results showed that the regression model developed by PLS regression based on Savitzky-Golay (S-G) second-derivative preprocessed spectra resulted in better performance for firmness, and SI of tomatoes compared to models developed by other preprocessing methods, with correlation coefficients (rpred) of 0.82, and 0.74 with standard error of prediction (SEP) of 0.86 N, and 0.63 respectively. Then, the feature wavelengths were identified using model-based variable selection method, i.e., variable important in projection (VIP), resulting from the PLS regression analyses and finally chemical images were derived by applying the respective regression coefficient on the spectral image in a pixel-wise manner. The resulting chemical images provided detailed information on firmness, and sweetness index (SI) of tomatoes. Therefore, these research demonstrated that HIS technique has a potential for rapid and non-destructive evaluation of the firmness and sweetness index of tomatoes.
The objective of this study is to suggest the possibility on land cover classification using hyperspectal imagery on area which includes lands and waters. After atmospheric correction as a preprocessing work was conducted on hyperspectral imagery acquired by airborne hyperspectral sensor CASI-1500, the effect of atmospheric correction to a few land cover class in before and after atmospheric correction was compared and analyzed. As the result of accuracy of land cover classification by highspectral imagery using reference data as airphoto and digital topographic map, maximum likelihood method represented overall accuracy as 67.0% and minimum distance method showed overall accuracy as 52.4%. Also product accuracy of land cover classification on road, dry field and green house, but that on river, forest, grassland showed low because the area of those was composed of complex object. Therefore, the study needs to select optimal band to classify specific object and to construct spectral library considering spectral characteristics of specific object.
Purpose: A multispectral algorithm for detection and differentiation of defective (defects on apple skin) and normal Red Delicious apples was developed from analysis of a series of hyperspectral line-scan images. Methods: A fast line-scan hyperspectral imaging system mounted on a conventional apple sorting machine was used to capture hyperspectral images of apples moving approximately 4 apples per second on a conveyor belt. The detection algorithm included an apple segmentation method and a threshold function, and was developed using three wavebands at 676 nm, 714 nm and 779 nm. The algorithm was executed on line-by-line image analysis, simulating online real-time line-scan imaging inspection during fruit processing. Results: The rapid multispectral algorithm detected over 95% of defective apples and 91% of normal apples investigated. Conclusions: The multispectral defect detection algorithm can potentially be used in commercial apple processing lines.
Land cover classification is an important tool for preventing natural disasters, collecting environmental information, and monitoring natural resources. Hyperspectral imaging is widely used for this task thanks to sufficient spectral information. However, the curse of dimensionality, spatiotemporal variability, and lack of labeled data make it difficult to classify the land cover correctly. We propose a novel classification framework for land cover classification of hyperspectral data based on convolutional neural networks. The proposed framework naturally incorporates full spectral features with the information from neighboring pixels and has advantages over existing methods that require additional feature extraction or pre-processing steps. Empirical evaluation results show that the proposed framework provides good generalization power with classification accuracies better than (or comparable to) the most advanced existing classifiers.

In this paper, in order to improve the utilization of hyperspectral large-capacity data feature information by reducing complex computations by dimension reduction of neural network inputs in embedded systems, the band selection algorithm is applied in each subset. Among feature extraction and feature selection techniques, the feature selection aim to improve the optimal number of bands suitable for datasets, regardless of wavelength range, and the time and performance, more than others algorithms. Through this experiment, although the time required was reduced by 1/3 to 1/9 times compared to the others band selection technique, meaningful results were improved by more than 4% in terms of performance through the K-neighbor classifier. Although it is difficult to utilize real-time hyperspectral data analysis now, it has confirmed the possibility of improvement.
This study analyzed the relationship between water turbidity and its reflectance, as measured using hyperspectral imaging. First, samples of turbid water were generated in boxes. This was followed by drone-based hyperspectral imaging and analysis of the correlation between the samples' measured turbidity and hyperspectral reflectance. The nine boxes for turbidity measurement were made of black acrylic that absorbed all light turbidity was induced using soil collected near Changhacheon, which causes turbidity in Imha Lake. The results indicate that the reflectance of wavelengths in the near-infrared region followed a pattern of increase with increasing soil content for each box. Analysis of this correlation between the turbidity and average reflectance measured in each box yielded a very high R2 value of 0.8702, indicating that reflectance is a suitable proxy for turbidity.
This paper showed how to analysis the object-based classification for wildfire fuel type map using Hyperion hyperspectral remote sensing data acquired in April, 2002 and compared the results of the object-based classification with the results of the pixel-based classification. Our methodological approach for wildfire fuel type map firstly processed correcting abnormal pixels and atypical bands and also calibrating atmospheric noise for enhanced image quality. Fuel type map is characterized by the results of the spectral mixture analysis(SMA). Object-based approach was based on segment-based endmember selection, while pixel-based method used standard SMA. To validate and compare, we used true-color high resolution orthoimagery.
Plant water deficiency during drought season causes physiological stress and can be a critical indicator of forest fire vulnerability. In this study, we attempt to analyze the spectral characteristics of water stressed vegetation by using the laboratory measurement on leaf samples and the canopy reflectance spectra extracted from satellite hyperspectral image data. Leaf-level reflectance spectra were measured by varying moisture content using a portable spectro-radiometer. Canopy reflectance spectra of sample forest stands of two primary species (pine and oak) located in central part of the Korean peninsula were extracted from EO-l Hyperion imaging spectrometer data obtained during the drought season in 2001 and the normal precipitation year in 2002. The preliminary analysis on the reflectance spectra shows that the spectral characteristics of leaf samples are not compatible with the ones obtained from canopy level. Although moisture content of vegetation can be influential to the radiant flux reflected from leaf-level, it may not be very straightforward to obtain the spectral characteristics that are directly related to the level of canopy moisture content. Canopy spectra form forest stands can be varied by structural variables (such as LAt, percent coverage, and biomass) other than canopy moisture content.
