The purpose of this research is to extract spectral reflectance characteristics of concretes through basic experiment on concrete specimens and site experiment on actual concrete structures using a field portable spectrometer and a VNIR hyperspectral sensor. A spectrometer (GER-3700) and a VNIR hyperspectral camera (AisaEagle VNIR Hyperspectral Camera) were utilized for extracting spectral characteristics of concrete specimens. Concretes normally show similar patterns that have correlation above 80%, while the high-strengthened concretes display very different results from the normal-strength concretes. We also made a certain conclusion in the laboratory experiment on concrete specimens that both the spectrometer and the VNIR camera vary in spectral reflectance depending on concrete strengths.
The objective of the research being presented was to construct and calibrate a spectrometer for the analysis of single kernels of corn. In light of the difficulties associated with capturing the spatial variability in composition of corn kernels by single-beam spectrometry, a hyperspectral imaging spectrometer was constructed with the intention that it would be used to analyze single kernels of corn for the prediction of moisture and oil content. The spectrometer operated in the range of 750- 1090 nanometers. After evaluating four methods of standardizing the output from the spectrometer, calibrations were made to predict whole-kernel moisture and oil content from the hyperspectral image data. A genetic algorithm was employed to reduce the number of wavelengths imaged and to optimize the calibrations. The final standard errors of prediction during cross-validation (SEPCV) were 1.22% and 1.25% for moisture and oil content, respectively. It was determined, by analysis of variance, that the accuracy and precision of single-kernel corn analysis by hyperspectral imaging is superior to the single kernel reference chemistry method (as tested).
In this research, for the first time, we tried to analyse Raman hyperspectral dentin data using Independent Component Analysis (ICA) to see its possibility of adoption for the dental analysis software. We captured hyperspectral dentin data on 569 spots on a molar with dental lesion by HR800 Micro Raman Spectrometer at UMKC-CRISP (University of Missouri at Kansas City-Center for Research on Interfacial Structure and Properties). Each spot has 1,005 hyperspectral data. We applied ICA to the captured hyperspectral data of dentin for evaluating ICA approach, and compared it with the well known multivariate analysis method, PCA. As a result of the experiment, ICA approach shows better local characteristic of dentin than the result of PCA. We confirmed that ICA also could be a good method along with PCA in the dental analysis software.
A novel hyperspectral imaging spectrometer controlling spatial and spectral resolution individually has been proposed. This imaging spectrometer uses a zoom lens as a telescope and a focusing element. It can change the spatial resolution fixing the spectral resolution or the spectral resolution fixing the spatial resolution. Here, we report the concept of the hyperspectral imaging spectrometer with the novel zooming function and the optical design of a zoom lens as the focusing element. By using lens module and third-order aberration theory, we have presented the initial design of four-group zoom lens with external entrance pupil. And the optimized zoom lens with a focal length of 50 to 150 mm is obtained from the initial design by the optical design software. As a result, the designed zoom lens shows satisfactory performances in wavelength range of 450 to 900 nm as a focusing element in an imaging spectrometer. Furthermore, the collimator lens of the imaging spectrometer is designed through the third-order aberration correction by using an iterative process.
A hyperspectral imaging spectrometer has shown significant advantages in performance over other existing ones for remote sensing applications. It can collect hundreds of narrow, adjacent spectral bands for each image, which provides a wealth of information on unique spectral characteristics of objects. We have developed a compact hyperspectral imaging system that successively shows high spatial and spectral resolutions and fast data processing performance. In this paper, we present an overview of the hyperspectral imaging system including the strucure of geometrical optics and several image processing schemes such as wavelength calibration and noise reduction for image data on Visible and Near-Infrared(VNIR) and Shortwave-Infrared(SWIR) band.
This was a preliminary research for the goal of understanding between internal structure of Osteogenesis Imperfecta Murine (OIM) bone and its fragility. 54 hyperspectral bone data sets were captured by using JASCO 2000 Raman spectrometer at UMKC-CRISP (University of Missouri-Kansas City Center for Research on Interfacial Structure and Properties). Each data set consists of 1,091 data points from 9 OIM bones. The original captured hyperspectral data sets were noisy and base-lined ones. We removed the noise and corrected the base-lined data for the final efficient classification. High dimensional Raman hyperspectral data on OIM bones was reduced by Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) and efficiently classified for the first time. We confirmed OIM bones could be classified such as strong, middle and weak one by using the coefficients of their PCA or LDA. Through experiment, we investigated the efficiency of classification on the reduced OIM bone data by the Bayesian classifier and K -Nearest Neighbor (K-NN) classifier. As the experimental result, the case of LDA reduction showed higher classification performance than that of PCA reduction in the two classifiers. K-NN classifier represented better classification rate, compared with Bayesian classifier. The classification performance of K-NN was about 92.6% in case of LDA.
A wide variety of applications of imaging spectrometer have been proved using data from airborne systems. The Compact Airborne Imaging Spectrometer System (CAISS) was jointly designed and developed as the airborne hyperspectral imaging system by Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) and ELOP inc., Israel. The primary mission of the CAISS is to acquire and provide full contiguous spectral information with high spatial resolution for advanced applications in the field of remote sensing. The CAISS consists of six physical units; the camera system, the gyro-stabilized mount, the jig, the GPS/INS, the power inverter and distributor, and the operating system. These subsystems are to be tested and verified in the laboratory before the flight. Especially the camera system of the CAISS has to be calibrated and validated with the calibration equipments such as the integrating sphere and spectral lamps. To improve data quality and its availability, it is the most important to understand the mechanism of imaging spectrometer system and the radiometric and spectral characteristics. The several performance tests of the CAISS were conducted in the camera system level. This paper presents the major characteristics of the CAISS, and summarizes the results of performance tests in the camera system level.
In this research, we presented an effective clustering method based on ICA for the analysis of huge Raman hyperspectral dental data. The hyperspectral dataset captured by HR800 micro Raman spectrometer at UMKC-CRISP(University of Missouri-Kansas City Center for Research on Interfacial Structure and Properties), has 569 local points. Each point has 1,005 hyperspectal dentin data. We compared the clustering effectiveness and the clustering time for the case of using all dataset directly and the cases of using the scores after PCA and ICA. As the result of experiment, the cases of using the scores after PCA and ICA showed, not only more detailed internal dentin information in the aspect of medical analysis, but also about 7~19 times much shorter processing times for clustering. ICA based approach also presented better performance than that of PCA, in terms of the detailed internal information of dentin and the clustering time. Therefore, we could confirm the effectiveness of ICA for the analysis of Raman hyperspectral dental data.

Images acquired by Large Aperture Static Imaging Spectrometer (LASIS) exhibit obvious interference stripes, which are vertical and stationary due to the special imaging principle of interference hyperspectral image (IHI) data. As the special characteristics above will seriously affect the intrinsic structure and sparsity of IHI, decomposition of IHI has drawn considerable attentions of many scientists and lots of efforts have been made. Although some decomposition methods for interference hyperspectral data have been proposed to solve the above problem of interference stripes, too many times of iteration are necessary to get an optimal solution, which will severely affect the efficiency of application. A novel algorithm for decomposition of interference hyperspectral images based on split Bregman iteration is proposed in this paper, compared with other decomposition methods, numerical experiments have proved that the proposed method will be much more efficient and can reduce the times of iteration significantly.
