A mark-release-recapture experiment with Anopheles sinensis in the northern part of Gyeonggi-do, Korea

  • In order to study the range of flight and feeding activity of Anopheles sinensis, the dispersal experiment was conducted in Paju city, located in the northern part of Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea, during the period of 7th to 28th September 1998. Unfed females An. sinensis were collected in cowshed and released after being marked with fluorescent dye at 23:00 hours on the same day. Released female mosquitoes were recaptured everyday during 21 days using light traps, which were set at 10 sites in the cowsheds located 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 km north-northwest and north-northeast and at 3 sites located 1, 6 and 9 km toward south-west from the release point. In addition, to study the longest flight distance in one night, we set the light traps at 16 and 20 km toward north-northeast from the release site. All the collected mosquitoes were placed on filter papers and observed on UV transilluminator after treatment with one drop of 100% ethanol. Out of 12,773 females of An. sinensis released, 194 marked females mosquitoes were recaptured, giving 1.52% recapture rate. Of 194, 72 mosquitoes (37 1%) were recaptured in light traps from three places set at 1 km from the release point, 57 mosquitoes (29.4%) from two places at 1-3 km, 41 mosquitoes (21.1%) from three places at 3-6 km, 20 mosquitoes (10.3%) from three places at 6-9 km, and 4 mosquitoes (2.1%) from two places at 9-12 km. Since 170 female mosquitoes (87.6%) out of 194 marked mosquitoes were captured within 6 km from the release point, this flight radius represents the main activity area. An. sinensis was found to be able to fly at least 12 km during one night.

  • 염료감응형 태양전지(Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells:DSSC)는 환경 친화적이며, 저가의 공정에 대한 가능성으로 기존의 고가의 결정질 실리콘 태양전지의 경제적인 대안으로 각광을 받고 있다. 최근 염료감응형 태양전지는 투명 전도성 산화막(Transparent Conducting Oxide : TCO)으로 사용되는 Fluorine Tin Oxide (FTO)가 증착된 유리기판 위에 주로 제작된다. FTO는 낮은 비저항과 가시광선 영역에서 높은 투과도를 가지는 우수한 전기-광학적 특성을 갖지만, 비교적 공정이 까다로운 Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD)법으로 제조하며, 전체 공정비용의 60%를 차지하는 높은 생산단가로 인해 현재 FTO를 대체할 재료개발 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 그 중 ZnO (Zinc Oxide)는 우수한 전기-광학적 특성과 비교적 저렴한 가격으로 새로운 TCO로써 주목받고 있다. ZnO는 넓은 energy band gap (3.4 [eV])의 육방정계 울자이트(hexagonal wurtzite) 결정 구조를 가지는II-VI족 n형 반도체 물질이며, III족 금속원소인 Al, Ga 및 In 등의 불순물을 첨가하면 TCO로서 우수한 전기-광학적 특성과 안정성을 나타낸다. 이들 물질중 $Zn^{2+}$ (0.060 nm)의 이온반경과 유사한 $Ga^{2+}$0.062 nm) 이온이 ZnO의 격자반경을 최소화 시킬 수 있다는 장점으로 최근 주목 받고 있다. 하지만 Ga-doped ZnO (GZO)의 경우 DSC에 사용되는 루테늄 계열의 산성 염료 하에 장시간 두면 표면이 파괴되는 문제가 발생하며, $TiO_2$ paste를 Printing 후 열처리하는 과정에서도 박막의 파괴가 발생할 수 있다. 이를 방지하기 위해 $TiO_2$ Blocking Layer를 GZO 투명전극 위에 증착하였다. 또한, $TiO_2$ Blocking Layer를 적용한 GZO 박막을 전면전극으로 이용하여 DSC를 제작하여 효율을 확인하였다. 2wt%의 $Ga_2O_3$가 도핑된 ZnO 박막은 20mTorr 400$^{\circ}C$에서 Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD)에 의해 성장되었고, $TiO_2$박막은 Ti 금속을 타겟으로 이용하여 30mTorr 400$^{\circ}C$에서 증착되었다. Scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM)을 이용한 박막 분석 결과 $TiO_2$가 증착된 GZO 박막의 경우 표면 파괴가 일어나지 않았다. Solar Simulator을 이용하여 I-V특성 측정결과 상용 FTO를 사용한 DSC 수준의 효율을 나타내었다. 이에 따라 Pulsed Laser Deposition을 이용해 제작된 GZO 기판은 $TiO_2$ Blocking Layer를 이용하여 표면 파괴를 방지할 수 있었으며, 이는 향후 염료감응형 태양전지의 투명전극에 적용 가능 할 것으로 판단된다.

A Study of Drag Reduction by Polymer-Surfactant Mixture System (고분자-계면활성제 혼합물에 의한 마찰저항 감소연구)

  • Drag reduction produced by dilute solution of water soluble ionic polymer-surfactant complex under turbulent flow in a rotating disk apparatus(RDA) was investigated in this study. Three different molecular weights of polyacrylic acid(PAA) were adopted as drag reducing additives, and distilled water was used as a solvent. Experiments were undertaken to observe the dependence of drag reduction on various factors such as polymer molecular weight, molecular expansions and flexibility, rotating speed of the disk and polymer concentration. Specific considerations were put on conformational difference between surfactant and polymer, and effect of pH on ionic polymer possessing various molecular conformation through pH. The complex of ionic polymer and surfactant(Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate) behaves like a large polyelectrolyte. Surfactant changes the polymer conformation and then increases the dimension of the polymer. The radius of gyration, hydrodynamic volume and relative viscosity of the polymer-surfactant system are observed to be greater than those of polymer itself. Such surfactant-polymer complex has enhanced drag reduction properties.

  • bliniaturization oi microwave circuit components is an important issue with the development in the mobile communication. Capacitors, inductors anti hybrid devices of these are building blocks of electric circuits, and the fabrication of these devices using thin film technology will influence on the miniaturization of electronic devices In this paper, we report the successful fabrication of the inductors, capacitors and LC hybrid devices using a ferroelectric and a ferromagnetic oxide thin iilm. Au, stable at high temperatures in oxidizing ambient, is patterned by lift-off process, and oxide thin films are deposited by ion beam sputtering and chemical vapor deposition. These devices are characterized by a network analyzer in 0.5-15GtIz range We got the inductance of 5nH, capacitance oi 10, 000 pF and resonant frequencies of $10^{6}-10^{9}Hz$.

  • An Epidemic disease is regarded as warm disease by Korean Medicine. Warm disease is highly contagious and shows an unfavorable condition, and that is characteristic of being widely prevalent. Warm disease study cope with this epidemic disease opportunely. In the Myeong[明] and Cheong[淸] Dynasty, warm disease study got into the region of Korean medicine of today and "The Sections of Warm Disease(溫病條辨)" contributed to the cause of the study was really great. "The Sections of Warm Disease" written by Ohguktong(吳鞠通) in the Cheong Dynasty are divided into the three sections of Upper burner[上焦], Middle burner[中焦] and Lower burner[下焦]. Ohguktong, dealing with the contents of Defense-aspect[衛分], Gi-aspect[氣分], Construction-aspect[營分], Blood-aspect[血分], and so forth in all "Sections of Warm Disease", made use of Seopcheonsa(葉天士)'s Defense Gi[衛氣], Construction, and Blood pattern identification with Triple burner[三焦] pattern identification and six channel pattern identification. And he, having a correct understanding of the nature of medicine, suggested in detail that the directions of medicine and described the processing according to method and the method to take medicine. To conclude, Ohguktong(吳鞠通) Tong in "The Sections of Warm Disease" not only formulated the system of the practical theory of warm disease but also solidified the foundation covering warm disease and its treatment as well, He established the new method of treatment and formula related to warm disease and made a definite distinction between cold damage[傷寒] and warm disease[溫病].

  • Ultrafine powders of $\textrm{In}_{2}\textrm{O}_{3}$-doped $\textrm{SnO}_{2}$ were synthesized by a coprecipitation method and the effects of pH value and the amount of In2Q addition on particle size were investigated. The influence of pH value on particle size could be negligible, whereas the amount of $\textrm{In}_{2}\textrm{O}_{3}$ has influenced on particle size and specific surface area. The gas sensitivity to hydrocarbOn($\textrm{C}_{3}\textrm{H}_{8}$, $\textrm{C}_{4}\textrm{H}_{10}$) increased with $\textrm{In}_{2}\textrm{O}_{3}$ addition and reached a maximum at 3wt.% addition. From the results of impedance analysis and I-V characteristics. it was showed that the agglomeration structure of particles and the boundaries between agglomerates were the important factors to determine the gas sensing mechanism.

질소 첨가된 GeSe 비정질 칼코지나이드 박막을 이용한 OTS (Ovonic threshold switching) 소자의 switiching 특성 연구

  • 최근 PRAM의 집적도 향상 및 3차원 적층에 의한 메모리 용량 향상을 위해 셀 선택 스위치로서 박막형 Ovonic Threshold Switching (OTS) 소자를 적용한 Cross bar 구조의 PRAM이 제안된 바 있다. OTS 소자는 비정질 칼코지나이드를 핵심층으로 하는 2단자 소자로서 고저항의 Off 상태에 특정 값 (문턱스위칭 전압) 이상의 전압을 가해주면 저저항의 On 상태로 바뀌고 다시 특정 값 (유지전압) 이하로 전압을 감소시킴에 따라 고저항의 Off 상태로 복원하는 특성을 갖는다. 셀 선택용 스위치로 적용되기 위해서는 핵심적으로 On-Off 상태간의 가역적인 변화 중에도 재료가 비정질 구조를 안정하게 유지해야 하며 전기적으로는 Off 상탱의 저항이 크고 또한 전류값의 점멸비가 커야 한다. GeSe는 이원계 재료로서 단수한 구성에도 불구하고 OTS 소자가 갖추어야할 기본적인 특성을 가지는 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 GeSe로 구성된 OTS 재료에 경원소인 질소를 첨가하여 비정질 상태의 안정성과 소자특성의 개선 효과를 조사하였다. RF-puttering 시 Ar과 $N_2$의 혼합 Gas를 사용하여 조성이 $Ge_{62}Se_{38}$ ($N_2$ : 3%)인 박막을 제작하여 DSC를 통해 결정화온도(Tx)를 확인하였고, $N_2$ gas의 함유량이 각각 1 %, 2 %, 3 %인 $Ge_{62}Se_{38}$인 박막을 전극의 접촉 부 면적이 $10{\times}10\;{\mu}m^2$인 cross-bar 구조의 소자로 제작하여 Threshold switching voltage ($V_{th}$), Delay time ($t_d$), $I_{on}/I_{off}$ 그리고 Endurance 특성을 평가하였다. DSC 분석 결과 $N_2$ 가 3 % 첨가된 GeSe 박막은 Tx가 $371^{\circ}C$에서 $399^{\circ}C$로 증가되었다. $N_2$가 1% 첨가된 GeSe 소자를 측정한 결과 $V_{th}$의 변화 없는 가운데 $I_{on}/I_{off}$이 약 $2{\times}10^3$에서 $5{\times}10^4$로 향상되었다. Endurance 특성 역시 $10^4$에서 $10^5$번으로 향상되었다. $t_d$의 경우 비정질 상태의 저항 증가로 인해 약 50% 증가되었다. 이러한 $N_2$의 첨가로 인한 비정질 GeSe 박막의 변화 원인에 대한 분석 결과를 소개할 예정이다.

The Antifibrotic Effects of D-penicillamine in Liver Fibrosis Animal (간섬유화 동물에서 D-페니실라민의 항섬유화 효과 검색)

  • One of therapeutics in liver disease (morbus wilson) is D-penicillamin (D-pen: D-3-mercapto-valin). Especially the cross-linking of collagen molecules could be inhibited by D-pe n in extracellular space. In this study we investigated the antifibrotic effects of D-pen in rats that were induced the liver fibrosis by bile duct ligation and scission (BDL/S). Rats were treated for 4 weeks with D-pen after BDL/S operation or sham operation. The balance between fibrogenesis-marker (PNIIIP) and the fibrolysis-maker (PNIVP) were observed in sera by RIA (radioimmunoassay), and the parameter of collagen deposition in liver tissue (hydroxyproline: HYP) was measured by colorimetry. The weight of liver in BDL/S operated group was increased significantly in compared with sham operation group (15.2g${\pm}$1.1, vs 11.9g${\pm}$3.9: p<0.005, p<0.05). The rats group treated by D-pen showed the lower level of PNIIIP (6.7ng/ml${\pm}$1.5, vs 9.5ng/ml${\pm}$2.8) and the higher value of PIVCP (14.0ng/ml${\pm}$1.9, vs 7.9ng/ml${\pm}$1.5) in sera that compared to untreated rats. The content of HYP was decreased by 141% in BDL/S with D-pen treated group than that of it in BDL/S group. No correlation was revealed between collagen parameters in sera and HYP in liver tissue of BDL/S operated and D-pen treated rats. The group treated with D-pen showed the lower value of clinical biochemistry parameters (GOT: glutamate oxalacetate transaminase, Total-Bilirubin) in compared with only BDL/S operated rats, but the value of GPT (glutamate pyruvate transaminase) and Alkaline phosphatase in two BDL/S groups was nearly same. In the histological finding, we observed mild bile duct proliferation, weak inflammation and fibrosis in BDL/S with D-pen treated group, but BDL/S operated group showed the formation of septum (island of hepatocytes), massive bile duct proliferation. This result represents that the BDL/S operation induces liver fibrosis (cirrhosis) in 4 weeks, and D-pen inhibits the synthesis of collagen weakly and stimulates the degradation of collagen in the extracellular space. We conclude that the monitoring of PNIIIP, PIVCP in sera is useful parameter for screening of antifibrotic effect, and D-pen delay the liver fibrosis.

  • Landslides cause enormous economic losses and casualties. Korea has mountainous regions and heavy slopes in most parts of the land and has consistently built new roads and large-scale housing complexes according to its industrial and urban growth. As a result, the damage from landslides becomes greater every year. In summer, landslides frequently occur due to local torrential rains and storms. It is critical to predict the potential areas of landslides in advance and to take preventive measures to minimize consequences and to protect property and human life. The previous study on landslides mostly focused on identifying the causes of landslides in the areas where they occurred, and on analyzing landslide vulnerability around the areas without considering rainfall conditions. Thus there were not enough evaluations of the direct risk of landslides to human life. In this study, potentially risky areas for landslides were identified using the GIS data in order to evaluate direct risk on farmlands, roads, and artificial structures that were closely connected to human life. A map of landslide risk was made taking into account rainfall conditions, and a land use map was also drawn with satellite images and digital maps. Both maps were used to identify potentially risky areas for landslides.

화학적 기상 에칭법을 이용한 고품질 질화물 반도체 나노구조 형성 연구

  • 반도체 저차원 구조에서의 독특한 광학적, 전기적 특성이 연구됨에 따라 양자점, 양자선, 양자우물과 같은 공간적으로 구속되어 있는 나노구조 형성에 관한 제작 방법과 그 특성 연구가 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 하지만 Si 또는 GaAs 반도체와 달리 광소자로써 각광받고 있는 질화물 반도체의 경우, 높은 화학적, 물리적 안정성으로 인해, 화학적 에칭에 의한 나노구조 형성이 쉽지 않고, 물리적 에칭의 경우, 표면 결함이 많이 발생되는 문제점이 있어 어려움을 겪고 있다. 최근 본 연구그룹에서는 자체 개발한 고온 HCl 가스를 이용한 화학적 기상 에칭법을 이용하여, 다양한 크기, 모양의 나노구조 형성 및 이를 이용한 다양한 타입의 InGaN 나노구조 제작 및 특성에 대해 연구하였다 (Figure 1). 화학적 기상 에칭법을 이용한 나노구조의 경우, 선택적인 결함구조 제거 및 이종기판 사용에 따른 응력 감소, 광추출 효율을 증가시켜, 우수한 구조적, 광학적 특성을 보여주었고, 에칭 조건에 따른, 피라미드, 막대와 같은 다양한 나노구조를 제작하였다. 뿐만 아니라 이를 기반으로 한 다양한 InGaN 나노구조를 모델을 제시하였는데, 첫번째는 GaN 나노막대 기판 위에 형성된 고품위InGaN 양자우물구조 성장이고, 두 번째는 InGaN 양자우물을 포함하고 있는 나노막대 구조 제작, 세번째는 InGaN/GaN core/shell 구조이다 (Figure 2). 이러한 InGaN 나노구조의 경우 높은 광결정성 및 크게 감소한 내부 전기장 효과, 광방출에 유리한 구조에 기인한 우수한 광특성을 보여주고 있어 광소자로써 응용가능성이 크고, InGaN/GaN core/shell 나노구조의 경우, 나노구조 내부에 단일 InGaN양자점이 형성되어 높은 광추출효율의 양자광소자로써 활용가능성을 보여주었다.
