  • In order to improve the efficiency of the water splitting system for hydrogen energy production, the high overvoltage in the electrochemical reaction caused by the catalyst in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) must be reduced. Among them, transition metal-based compounds (hydroxide, sulfide, etc.) are attracting attention as catalyst materials to replace currently used precious metals such as platinum. In this study, Ni foam, an inexpensive metal porous material, was used as a support and β-Ni(OH)2 microcrystals were synthesized through a hydrothermal synthesis process. In addition, changes in the crystal morphology, crystal structure, and water splitting characteristics of β-Ni(OH)2 microcrystals synthesized by doping Fe to improve electrochemical properties were observed, and applicability as a catalyst in a commercial water electrolysis system was examined.

  • Due to the rapidly diminishing energy sources and higher energy production cost, the interest in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) has been increasing dramatically in recent years. A typical DSSC is constructed of wide band gap semiconductor electrode such as $TiO_2$ or ZnO that are anchored by light-harvesting sensitizer dyes and surrounded by a liquid electrolyte with a iodide ion/triiodide ion redox couple. DSSCs based on one-dimensional nano-structures, such as ZnO nanorods, have been recently attracting increasing attention due to their excellent electrical conductivity, high optical transmittance, diverse and abundant configurations, direct band gap, absence of toxicity, large exiton binding energy, etc. However, solar-to-electrical conversion performances of DSSCs composed of ZnO n-type photo electrode compared with that of $TiO_2$ are not satisfactory. An important reason for the low photovoltaic performance is the dissolution of $Zn^{2+}$ by the adsorption of acidic dye followed by the formation of agglomerates with dye molecules which could block the I-diffusion pathway into the dye molecule on the ZnO surface. In this paper, we prepared the DSSC with the ZnO electrode using the chemical bath deposition (CBD) method under low temperature condition (< $100^{\circ}C$). It was demonstrated that the ZnO seed layers played an important role on the formation of the ZnO nanostructures using CBD. To achieve truly low-temperature growth of the ZnO nanostructures on the substrates, a two-step method was developed and optimized in the present work. Firstly, ZnO seed layer was prepared on the FTO substrate through the spin-coating method. Secondly, the deposited ZnO seed substrate was immersed into an aqueous solution of 0.25M zinc nitrate hexahydrate and 0.25M hexamethylenetetramine at $90^{\circ}C$ for hydrothermal reaction several times.

  • Ga-MFI was synthesized by a hydrothermal process at atmospheric pressure. The effect of mole ratios of reactants on crystallization was also investigated thoroughly. The characteristics of synthesized Ga-MFI was compared with ZSM-5. The synthesis of Ga-MFI was carried out with five different mole-compositions of $\underline{a}SiO_2-\underline{b}Ga_2O_3-\underline{c}Na_2O-\underline{d}TPA_2o-\underline{e}H_2O$. The synthesized Ga-MFI and ZSM-5 were characterized by XRD and FT-IR. The inorganic cation ($Na^+$) and water played an important role in crystallinity and the organic cation ($TPA^+$) as a template played a great influence on yields. With the increase in the amount of $Ga^{3+}$, crystallization time was increased. With a fixed $SiO_2/Ga_2O_3$ ratio of 400, the optimum reaction condition was obtained at $H_2O/SiO_2$=30${\sim}$35, $Na_2O/SiO_2$=0.5${\sim}$0.6, and $TPA_2O/Na_2O$=1${\sim}$1.25. In these cases, the crystallinity and yield were more than 95% and 90%, respectively. By comparing IR spectrum of Ga-MFI with those of ZSM-5 and silicalite, it was found that Ga-MFI showed a unique peak at 970 $cm^{-1}$, which may be used to identify Ga-MFI from ZSM-5 and silicalite.

  • The present invention relates to a absorption rotor for removed VOC(volatile organic compound) and humidity in semiconductor clean room system. A absorption rotor medium is made by NaX zeolite and TS-1 zeolite formed on a honeycomb matrix of ceramic papers. The crystallization of NaX zeolite was hydrothermal reaction, and NaX zeolite crystals of a uniform particle size of 5$\mu$m were synthesized that NaX zeolite seed crystals (2~3$\mu$m) added in a batch composition at levels of 3~15 wt$\%$. The seeding resulted in an increase in the fraction of large crystals compared with unseeded batches and successfully led to a uniform NaX zeolite crystal. The microporous zeolite-type titanosilicate(TS-1) was synthesized by different of the reactant solution pH. The pH range of reactant solution has been changed from 10.0 to 11.5 TS-1 zeolite (ETS-10), having a large pore(8~10 $\AA$), was synthesized at 10.4 of pH, since TS-1 zeolite (ETS-4), having a small pore(3~5$\AA$), was synthesized at 11.5 of pH.

  • Constructing and making highly active and stable nanostructured Pt-based catalysts with ultralow Pt loading are still electrifying for electrochemical applications such as water electrolysis and fuel cells. In this study, MoO3 ribbons (RBs) of few micrometer in length is successfully synthesized via hydrothermal synthesis. Subsequently, 3-dimentional (3D)-silicate layer for about 10 to 15 nm is introduced via chemical deposition onto the pre-formed MoO3 RBs; to setup the platform for Pt metaldots (MDs) deposition. In comparison with the bare MoO3 RBs, the MoO3-Si has served as a efficient solid-support for stabilizing and accommodating the uniform deposition of sub-2 nm Pt MDs. Such a structural design would effectively assist in improving the electronic conductivity of a fabricated MoO3-Si-Pt catalyst towards MOR; the interfaced, porous and 3D silicate layer has assisted in an efficient mass transport and quenching the poisonous COads species leading to a significant electrocatalytic performance for MOR in alkaline medium. Uniformly decorated, sub-2 nm sized Pt MDs has synergistically oxidized the MeOH in association with the MoO3-Si solid-support hence, synergistic catalytic activity has been achieved. Present facile approach can be extended for fabricating variety of highly efficient Metal Oxide-Metal Nanocomposite for energy harvesting applications.

  • Minute boehmite crystals with high aspect rations, which were hydrothermally synthesized from gibbsite in $Ba(OH)_2$ solution, occluded Ba with the Ba/Al molar ratio of about 0.03 in their interlayers. Their surface areas were about 14$\m^2$/g. The Ba-intercalated bohemite samples were partly used for producing $BaAl_{12}O){19}$ with low sinterability by externally supplementing $Ba(OH)_2$, and for forming transient aluminas. The surface area of $BaAl_{12}O){19}$ obtained by firing at $1500^{\circ}C$ for 3 h was 5.3$\m^2$/g, which was significantly lower than 12$\m^2$/g of the sol-gel origin. While a mixture ${\gamma}$-alumina and BaO is known to from $BaAl_{12}O){19}$ at $1200^{\circ}C$, solid state reaction between η-alumina transformed from the Ba-intercalated boehmite and BaO formed from $Ba(OH)_2$ deposited on the boehmite started above $1300^{\circ}C$. This suggests that large sized $Ba^{2+}$ ion occluded in η-alumina considerably suppresses the diffusion of $Al^{3+}$ ion. The surface area of the Ba-intercalated boehmite fired at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 3h was as high as 14$\m^2$/g indicative of its potential applicability to combustion catalysts. But it was decreased to 5.0$\m^2$/g after firing at $1500^{\circ}C$ for 3 h, accompanied by abrupt formations of $\alpha$-alumina and $BaAl_{12}O){19}$ as main products. The suppression of $\alpha$-alumina formation up to $1400^{\circ}C$ also suggests the significant blocking effect of $Ba^{2+}$ ion on the diffusion of the component ions.

  • The effects of a Ni coating on the sensing properties of nano ZnO:Ni based gas sensors were studied for $CH_4$ and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gases. Nano ZnO sensing materials were prepared by the hydrothermal reaction method. The Ni coatings on the nano ZnO surface were deposited by the hydrolysis of zinc chloride with $NH_4OH$. The weight % of Ni coating on the ZnO surface ranged from 0 to 10 %. The nano ZnO:Ni gas sensors were fabricated by a screen printing method on alumina substrates. The structural and morphological properties of the nano ZnO : Ni sensing materials were investigated by XRD, EDS, and SEM. The XRD patterns showed that nano ZnO : Ni powders with a wurtzite structure were grown with (1 0 0), (0 0 2), and (1 0 1) dominant peaks. The particle size of nano ZnO powders was about 250 nm. The sensitivity of nano ZnO:Ni based sensors for 5 ppm $CH_4$ gas and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas was measured at room temperature by comparing the resistance in air with that in target gases. The highest sensitivity of the ZnO:Ni sensor to $CH_4$ gas and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas was observed at Ni 4 wt%. The response and recovery times of 4 wt% Ni coated ZnO:Ni gas sensors were 14 s and 15 s, respectively.

  • Fly ash powders were refined and separated into fine and coarse size by multi-air classification, and each particle was used for synthesizing mullite and zeolite. Mullite was prepared by sintering the mixture of fine fly ash with mean size of 6.5 $\mu$m and $A1_2$$O_3$powder at above $1450^{\circ}C$. Zeolite was synthesized through hydrothermal reaction with coarse fly ash mean size of $56.3\mu$m in 3.5 M NaOH solution at $120^{\circ}C$. The whole range of particle size can be recycled through size classification into fine and coarse fractions, which are used for syntheses of inorganic materials.
