  • Recently in the construction industry there has been an increasing use of increasing replacement of cement with blast furnace slag cement(BS), an industrial by-product, to reduce environment load and production costs, and other increasing uses of BS cement. However in the case of BS being delivered in RMC factories, only score reports submitted when the are delivered are relied upon and ways to test the quality of fineness is inadequate. Therefore this study gave many changes to various cements and BS fineness to test the variations of BS as a cement, then used the correlation between this and the density value in the Hydrometer method to test the possibility for rapid appraisal of quality fineness of BS cement. Results showed that if the one fifth graph of the density and fineness correlation were to be used, a rapid appraisal of BS cement fineness quality would be possible.

  • Due to the processing cost, there were some reports on distribution of unrefined fly ash. Hence, in this research, the possibility of fly ash quality evaluation by measuring the density of various qualities of coal ash suspensions with hydrometer. According to the experimental results, the appropriate test conditions were determined with 1,000cc capacity mass cylinder for 1,000cc of water with 100g of fly ash. From the evaluating performance of various coal ashes, based on a good correlation between fineness and quality of the coal ashes, it was possible to evaluate the quality of coal ash by measuring different density of suspension with hydrometer. In this research conditions, the suggestable measuring time of density variation was three minute for fly ash quality related with fineness.

  • In this research, the density value of the turbid solution is measured by using the principle of inexpensive but easy Hydrometer method for cement delivered to the actual raw concrete plant, By analyzing the correlation of powder aid, we will try to present a scheme that can be utilized as a method of acquisition acquisition inspection. As a result of the analysis, it was found that there was a large difference between the measured powders assisted with cement powder on the report, and the correlation with the actually measured powder aid Hydrometer density value was good. Therefore, using the method of Fig. 3, it was possible to know that the degree of powder quality of cement delivered to the raw concrete factory can be evaluated quickly and utilized at the time of argument inspection.

  • This study was carried out to develop a more convenient way to analyze soil texture by hydrometer. Standard Hydrometer Method(SM), in which at least 7 times of reading is required for soil texture analysis, was compared with two other methods named as Soil Clay Fraction Procedure(SCFP) and Simplified for Soil Texture Analysis(SSTA), in which 2 or 3 times of hydrometer reading may be enough for soil texture analysis, respectively. There appeared to be very close correlation(nearly 1.0) between clay contents measured by the above three methods. The clay content measured by SCFP were overestimated by 0~2 percent than those by SM. Textural classes of 28 soil samples determined by SSTA were identical to those by SM. But, textural classes determined by SCFP appeared to be different from those by SM in 4 of 28 soil samples. Because the measurements of particle size in SSTA is made near $2{\mu}m$ diameter, we can save time and labour to measure the clay contents. Therefore, SSTA could be used as a more convenient method to get the same data as SM.

  • Recently , the hydraulic fill method is commonly used in many reclamation projects due to lack of fill materialss. The method of hydraulic fill i recalmation is executed by transporting the mixture of water -soil particles into a relcaimed land through dredging pipes, then the dredged soil particels settle down in thewater orflow over an out flow weir with the water. The amount of the volume reductions of dredged soil is considered the sum of the overall settlement by descication shrinkage and self-weigth consolidation and the loss of soil particles flow over a weir. In the present study, hydrometer analysis was performed with the soil samples obtained bofore and after dredging to estimate the amount of soil particles residual at reclaimed area and the loss of soil particles , then it was suggested the method of determining the loss ratio of dredged soils from the tests results. The hydrometer analysis of in-situ soil samples showed that the loss ratio of dredged soils is lowest at the nearest point to dredge pipe and highest at the nearest point of out flow weir.

  • To evaluate the reliability of fly ash quality supplied to ready-mixed concrete plant using mass cylinder and hydrometer, in this research, the correlationship between the fly ash properties provided from certification and density measurement with suspension was evaluated. As a result, the reliability of the certification, except fineness and loss on ignition, all properties had a discord. Additionally, in the case of density, fineness, and L.O.I, the relation with the density measured using hydrometer showed high correlation, especially fineness was strongly related with the density measured using hydrometer. Furthermore, according to the comparative analysis with previous research, the fly ash used in this research was similar measurement with raw powder without any refining process, it is considered that the constant error of blaine test or using raw ash sample as a fly ash. In current standard regarding fly ash, the fineness range of class 2 can be changed from $3,000-4,500cm^2/g$ to $3,500-4,500cm^2/g$ for improved quality of fly ash in fineness aspect.

In the present study, practice each three method in order to suggest method of determining the loss rate of the dredged fills. The first sieve and hydrometer analysis were performed with the soil samples obtained before and after dredging and then apply theory of particle breakage, the second compare with the volume of dredged soil between at the dredging area and the target pond and the last compare with weight of dredged soil between before and after dredging at the dredging area and in the target pond for estimating the amount of soil particles residual at the reclaimed area and the loss of soil particles passed through the weir. In addition to compare with the loss ratio between as using Marsal's modified theory of particle breakage and measured weight and volume in the field.

  • The aim of the research is to analyze a feasibility of rapid evaluation method for cement fineness by the relation analysis between density measurement using hydrometer and fineness of ordinary Portland cement. Additionally, based on the commercially available cement product, relation between a series of fundamental properties of cement mortar and fineness of cement powder was analyzed. As an experimental result, the actually measured fineness value of cement powder showed a good correlation with the fineness value obtained by hydrometer while there was poor correlation with the fineness value on specification. Especially, the density measurement in three minutes showed the closest relation with cement powder fineness, thus rapid quality evaluation of cement powder can be possible by using the regression equation obtained from the three minutes density measurement. Additionally, there was a high relation between cement powder fineness with a fundamental properties of the cement mortar such as fluidity, air content, setting time, and strength development.

  • Volume change of the dredged soils is composed of the volume loss of soil particle flowing over an outflow weir with water and settlement due to both the self-weight consolidation in reclaimed layer and the desiccation at the surface of reclaimed layer. In order to estimate the amount of soil particles flowing over an outflow weir with water, the evaluation procedure of loss ratio of the dredged soils is proposed in the present study based on the Marsal's modified breakage theory and the results of hydrometer analyses. To verify a validity of the proposed procedure, evaluated loss ratio is compared with results from the other existing methods. The model test results and those of field test were compared and analyzed. Also, the variation of soil loss ratio was examined through the model test in the lab.
