Application of QuickBird Satellite Image to Storm Runoff Modeling

  • This study is to apply QuickBird satellite image for the simulation of storm runoff in a small rural watershed. For a $1.05km^2$ watershed located in Goesan-Gun of Chungbuk Province, the land use from the QuickBird image was produced by on-screening digitising after ortho-rectifying using 2 m DEM. For 3 cases of land use, soil and elevation scale (1:5,000, 1:25,000 and 1:50,000), SCS-CN and the watershed physical parameters were prepared for the storm runoff model, HEC-HMS (Hydrologic Modelling System). The model was evaluated for each case and compared the simulated results with couple of selected storm events.

다른 원격탐사 센서로 추출한 강우자료의 이질성과 이에 의한 비선형유출반응에 미치는 영향 (Investigating Remotely Sensed Precipitation from Different Sources and Their Nonlinear Responses in a Physically Based Hydrologic Model)

  • 강우는 물과 에너지 순환에서 가장 중요한 역할을 한다. 이 연구에서는 두개의 다른 원격탐사 센서를 이용하여 추출한 강우자료의 불확실성 (uncertainty)에 대하여 검토해 보았으며, 이에 의한 오차가 비선형 수치수문모형에서 수문인자(유출)를 모의할 때 어떻게 영향을 미치는가를 살펴보았다. 지상에서 관측된 강우 관측을 이용하여 WSR-88D (NEXRAD)에 의해 추출한 레이더 강우, 그리고 IR (Infrared) 밴드를 기반으로 하는 인공위성 강우관측을 비교 검토하였으며, 세 가지의 서로 다른 강우와 현장에서 측정된 기상자료를 입력 자료로 사용하여, 오프라인 CLM (Community Land Model) 수문모형으로 유출량을 모의하였다. 이 연구에서 물리적 이론을 기반으로 하는 CLM수문 모형의 매개변수는 지표면-대기의 수문반응 (land-atmosphere interaction)을 적절하게 묘사하도록 정의되었다고 가정한다. 다른 원격탐사 센서를 이용하여 추출한 강우자료는 시공간적으로 다른 양상을 보여 주며, 수치모형의 실험 결과는 강우입력의 불확실성이 수문반응의 결과에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지를 보여준다. 이 연구는 앞으로 우리나라에서 개발 및 활용가능성이 있는 레이더 강우와 인공위성 강우에 대한 사전 지식을 제공하고, 동시에 수치 수문모형을 수행할 때 수문반응의 불확실성에 대한 정보를 제공해 주며, 결국은 기후 변화에 따른 수자원의 재분배를 이해하는데 이바지할 것이다.

제주도 유출분석을 위한 한계유출 모의기법 개발 (Development of Threshold Runoff Simulation Method for Runoff Analysis of Jeju Island)

  • In Jeju island, runoff has frequently happened when the rainfall depth is over a threshold value. To simulated this characteristic rainfall-runoff model structure has to be modified. In this study, the TRSM (Threshold Runoff Simulation Method) was developed to overcome the limitations of SWAT in applying to the hydrologic characteristics of Jeju island. When the precipitation and soil water are less than threshold value, we revised the SWAT routine not to make surface/lateral or groundwater discharge. For Hancheon watershed, the threshold value was set as 80% of soil water through the analysis of rainfall-runoff relationship. Through the simulation of test watershed, it was proven that TRSM performed much better in simulating pulse type stream flow for the Hancheon watershed.

PEST를 이용한 임하호유역 HSPF 수문 보정 (Hydrologic Calibration of HSPF Model using Parameter Estimation (PEST) Program at Imha Watershed)

  • An automatic calibration tool of Hydrological Simulation Program-Fortran (HSPF), Parameter Estimation (PEST) program, was applied at the Imha lake watershed to get optimal hydrological parameters of HSPF. Calibration of HSPF parameters was performed during 2004 ~ 2008 by PEST and validation was carried out to examine the model's ability by using another data set of 1999 ~ 2003. The calibrated HSPF parameters had tendencies to minimize water loss to soil layer by infiltration and deep percolation and to atmosphere by evapotranspiration and maximize runoff rate. The results of calibration indicated that the PEST program could calibrate the hydrological parameters of HSPF with showing 0.83 and 0.97 Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient (NS) for daily and monthly stream flow and -3% of relative error for yearly stream flow. The validation results also represented high model efficiency with showing 0.88 and 0.95, -10% relative error for daily, monthly, and yearly stream flow. These statistical values of daily, monthly, and yearly stream flow for calibration and validation show a 'very good' agreement between observed and simulated values. Overall, the PEST program was useful for automatic calibration of HSPF, and reduced numerous time and effort for model calibration, and improved model setup.

수정 TOPMODEL에 의한 유출해석과 일반화 (설마천 유역을 중심으로) (Generalization of Modified TOPMODEL for Rainfall-Runoff Analysis of Sulmachun Watershed)

  • 지표하부에 이중 저류체계를 고려해주는 수정 TOPMODEL을 일반화된 지표하 투수량계수 감소함수와 연결시켰으며, 대공극으로의 수직배수 효과, 지표저류 효과, 토양층 내에서의 상대 저류 부족량에 대한 영향을 검토하기 위해 세가지 형태의 지하수 충전함수를 도입하였다. 이러한 접근은 사면 수문학에 대한 30가지 형태의 모형구조를 제공한다. 개발된 모형들은 설마천 유역의 여러 강우사상에 적용되었다. Monte-carlo 모의를 통한 수행결과는 지수함수적 투수량계수 감소형태가 설마천 유역의 물리적인 수문모의에 적절함을 제시하였고, 대공극 흐름을 표현해 주는 재충전 함수가 일반화시킨 수정 TOPMODEL의 예측적 향상에 기여하였다.

관개용 저수지의 일별 유입량과 방류량의 모의 발생 (III) -저수지 모의조작 모형의 응용- (Siniulating Daily Inflow and Release Rates for Irrigation Reservoirs(III) - Model Application to Dafly Reservoir Operations -)

  • This study refers to the development of a hydrologic model simulating daily inflow and release rates for irrigation reservoirs. A daily - based model is needed for adequate operation of an irrigation reservoir sufficing the water demand for paddy fields which is closely related to meteorological conditions. And the objective or this study is to develop a Daily Irrigation Reservoir Operation Model(DIROM) combining the inflow and the release models which depicts the daily water level fluctuations of an irrigation reservoir, and to evaluate the applicability of the model. DIROM was applied to four reservoirs and daily water levels were simulated and compared to the observed data. The model behaviour was also compared with that of a ten - day based model, Reservoir Operation Study(ROS) which has been applied for determining the design capacity of reservoirs. Various combinations of measured and simulated inflow and release rates for tested reservoirs were used to define the daily water level fluctuations. Simulated release rates and measured inflow data resulted in larger errors, and simulated inflow and release rates produced the smallest errors in water level comparison. Two resevoir operation models, DIROM and ROS were applied to the same reservoir and the simulation results compared. The computational errors of DIROM ware smaller than those of ROS, and DIROM was more sensitive to meteorological conditions. DIROM demonstrated its potenial applicability in water management and operation.

폐기물 매립지의 최종복토 구조에 따른 침출계수 변화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Variation of the Coefficient of Leachate as Final Cover Systems in the Landfill)

  • 본 연구는 최종복토 구조에 따른 제기물 매립지에서의 침출계수의 변화에 관한 것이다. (a)는 1999년 최종복토 설치기준이 강화되기 이전, 양질의 토사를 이용하여 50cm두께로 최종복토를 실시하는 구조이며, (b), (c)는 최종복토 설치 기준 강화로 식생대층, 배수층, 차단층((b): Geomemrane(1.5 mm)와 다짐점토층(30 cm), (c) 다짐점토층(45 cm)), 가스배제층으로 최종복토를 설치하는 구조이다. 침출수 발생량은 일반적으로 합리식에 의해 산정되며 합리식 인자중 침출계수에 의해 영향을 크게 받는다. 침출계수는 우수로 인한 침출수 발생비율로 최종복토 구조에 따라 큰 변화를 보이는 인자로서 이 연구에서는 최종복토 구조 변화에 빠른 침출계수를 산정하기 위해 HELP(Hydrologic Evaluation of Landfill Performance) Simulation과 Pilot lest를 이용하였다. HELP Simulation 결과 (a) 구조의 침출계수는 0.36∼0.42로, (b), (c)의 침출계수는 최종복토의 차단층의 설치 질에 따라 0.03∼0.15로 예측되었다. 또한 Pilot Test 결과 강화된 구조의 최종복토의 침출계수는 HELP Model결과와 유사한 0.13의 수치가 발생되었다.

Incremental DP에 의한 홍수시 댐군의 연계운영 (An Optimal Operation of Multi-Reservoirs for Flood Control by Incremental DP)

  • 북한강 수계에 위치한 화천댐과 소양강댐을 홍수시 연계운영을 위하여 Incremental DP를 사용하여 최적운영모형을 개발하였다. 목적함수로는 의암댐 합류점의 첨두 유량을 최소화하는 것으로 하였으며 수리-수문학적 제약조건은 홍수시 댐조작에 관한 법령, 각 댐 및 하도특성을 고려하여 설정하였다. 특히, 2차 홍수에 대비하여 홍수가 끝나는 시점의 수위가 제한수위가 되도록 하였다. 또한 Incremental DP 모형의 운영결과와 Simulation 및 DP에 의한 단일댐 운영결과를 조절률과 이용률의 관점에서 비교하였고, 합류점의 첨두유량을 Feedback Loop를 이용한 Simulation 결과와 비교하였다. 운영결과 조절률과 이용률이 Simulation 및 DP에 의한 단일댐 운영결과보다 다소 낮게 나타났고, 합류점 유량이 Feedback Loop에 결과보다 크게 나타났는데 이는 홍수말기의 수위에 관한 제약조건 때문이다.

CALIBRATION AND VALIDATION OF THE HSPF MODEL ON AN URBANIZING WATERSHED IN VIRGINIA, USA

  • Nonpoint source pollutants from agriculture are identified as one of the main causes of water quality degradation in the United States. The Hydrological Simulation Program-Fortran (HSPF) was used to simulate runoff, nitrogen, and sediment loads from an urbanizing watershed; the Polecat Creek watershed located in Virginia. Model parameters related to hydrology and water quality were calibrated and validated using observed hydrologic and water quality data collected at the watershed outlet and at several sub-watershed outlets. A comparison of measured and simulated monthly runoff at the outlet of the watershed resulted in a correlation coefficient of 0.94 for the calibration period and 0.74 for the validation period. The annual observed and simulated sediment loads for the calibration period were 220.9 kg/ha and 201.5 kg/ha, respectively. The differences for annual nitrate nitrogen ($NO_3$) loads between the observed and simulated values at the outlet of the watershed were 5.1% and 42.1% for the calibration and validation periods, respectively. The corresponding values for total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN) were 60.9% and 40.7%, respectively. Based on the simulation results, the calibrated HSPF input parameters were considered to adequately represent the Polecat Creek watershed.

A study on water quality change by land use change using HSPF

  • Non-point source pollutant load reductions were calculated using the Hydrologic Simulation Program-Fortran (HSPF) model under the assumption that landuse pattern was changed according to land purchases. Upon the simulation of non-point pollutant and areas with high land purchase ratios to select a buffer zone, the Namgang dam Reach 11, Imha dam Reach 10, and the Reach 136 watershed of the main river were found to rank high for the construction of buffer zones. Assuming that the forms of the purchased lands were changed to wetlands, biological oxygen demand (BOD) loads were changed through the HSPF model. No changes of BOD were present in the Namgang dam and the Imha dam watersheds. BOD loads in Reach 136 according to landuse change were analyzed through a flow duration analysis based on the total maximum daily loads of the United States. The flow duration analyses undertaken to examine changes in BOD of main river Reach 136 watershed indicated a shift of 0.64 kg/d from 3.16 to 2.52 during high flow. The change of BOD under the conditions of moist, mid-range and dry were 11.9%, 9% and 4.5%. At the low flow condition, the variation range in the BOD load was from 0.58 kg/d to 0.41 kg/d.
