Alkali metal fluoride sources (MFs) such as potassium fluoride (KF) have been widely used as a fluoride source in the nucleophilic displacement reaction. However, they have low solubility and nucleophilicity in most of the organic solvents. Bulky fluoride sources such as tetrabutylammonium fluoride (TBAF) were substituted for MFs to improve these properties. However, hygroscopic property of TBAF makes it less convenient for handling as well as its strong basic property can make the side-reaction occur. Recently, novel fluoride sources have been developed to solve these problems. In this paper, we would like to introduce coordinated fluoride sources as a new fluoride sources such as tetrabutylammonium tetra(t-butyl alcohol)-coordinated fluoride, crown ether metal complex fluoride, and various bulky alcohols coordinated fluoride complexes. In particular, bulky alcohol coordinated fluoride source could generated by the controlled hydrogen-bonded of fluoride with alcohols and these fluoride sources have better stability and reactivity with showing low hygroscopic property. The study of these fluoride sources will help to understand the characteristic of [$^{18}F$]fluoride for increasing the radiochemical yield in the [$^{18}F$]radiofluorination.

Since the unprecedented hydrogen fluoride leak accident in 2012, there has been growing demand for customized technical information for rapid response and chemical accident management agencies including the Ministry of Environment, the National Emergency Management Agency, and the National Police Agency need more information on chemicals and accident management. In this regard, this study aims to provide reliable technical data and guidelines to initial response agencies, similar to accident management technical reports of the US and Canada. In this study, we conducted a questionnaire survey and interviews on initial response agencies like fire stations, police stations, and local governments to identify new information items for appropriate initial response and improvements of current guidelines. We also collected and reviewed the Canada's TIPS, US EPA's hydrogen fluoride documents, domestic and foreign literature on applicability tests of control chemicals, and interview data, and then produced items to be listed in the technical guidelines. In addition, to establish database of on-site technical information, we carried out applicability tests for accident control data including ① emergency shut down devide, safety guard, shut down valve, ground connection, dyke, transfer pipe, scrubber, and sensor; ② literature and field survey on distribution type and transportation/storage characteristics (container identification, valve, ground connection, etc.); ③ classification and identification of storage/transportation facilities and emergency management methodslike leak prevention, chemicals control, and cutoff or bypass of rain drainage; ④ domestic/foreign analysis methods and environmental standards including portable detection methods, test standards, and exposure limits; and ⑤ comparison/evaluation of neutralization efficiency of control chemicals on toxic substances.
BACKGROUND: Hydrogen fluoride is one of the 97 accident preparedness substances regulated by the Ministry of Environment (Republic of Korea) and chemical accidents should be managed centrally due to continual occurrence. Especially, hydrogen fluoride has a characteristic of rapid diffusion and very toxic when leaking into the environment. Therefore, it is important to predict the impact range quickly and to evaluate the residual contamination immediately to minimize the human and environmental damages. METHODS AND RESULTS: In order to estimate the accident impact range, the off-site consequence analysis (OCA) was performed to the worst and alternative scenarios. Also, in order to evaluate the residual contamination of hydrogen fluoride in crop, the samples in accident site were collected from 15-divided regions (East direction from accident sites based on the main wind direction), and the concentration was measured by fluoride ($F^-$) ion-selective electrode potentiometer (ISE). As a result of the OCA, the affected distance by the worst scenario was estimated to be >10 km from the accident site and the range by the alternative scenario was estimated to be about 1.9 km. The residual contamination of hydrogen fluoride was highest in the samples near the site of the accident (E-1, 276.82 mg/kg) and tended to decrease as it moved eastward. Meanwhile, the concentrations from SE and NE (4.96~28.98 mg/kg) tended to be lower than the samples near the accident site. As a result, the concentration of hydrogen fluoride was reduced to a low concentration within 2 km from the accident site (<5 mg/kg), and the actual damage range was estimated to be around 2.2 km. Therefore, it is suggested that the results are similar to those of alternative accident scenarios calculated by OCA (about 1.9 km). CONCLUSION: It is difficult to estimate the chemical accident-affecting range/region by the OCA evaluation, because it is not possible to input all physicochemical parameters. However simultaneous measurement of the residual contamination in the environment will be very helpful in determining the diffusion range of actual chemical accident.
The purpose of this study is to assess quantitatively the amount of leaks and the extent of dispersion in case of a leak at a hydrogen fluoride tank container unloading station, and to suggest a safety improvement plan to prevent recurrence of similar accidents. In 2012, Company H leaks 8 tonnes of tank containers with a maximum storage capacity of 18 Ton, causing it to become a social issue. As a result of calculation using Gaussian plume model, the concentration was estimated to be more than 20ppm from the leak point to 1,321 m radius. The leakage of hydrogen fluoride from the company R in 2014 was estimated to be 11.02 kg, of which 2.9 kg was treated by the scrubber. As a result of calculation using Gaussian plum model, the damage range with a concentration of 20ppm or more from the leak source was estimated to be 69 m in radius. As a result of comparing the above two accidents, it was found that the leakage amount was about 987 times different and the damaged site was more than 19 times different. Therefore, it was concluded that it was necessary to control the wearing of the protective equipment, the enclosure of the unloading site, the installation of the scrubber, and the emergency training to avoid the accidental leakage of a hydrogen fluoride from the unloading site.
A number of accidents relating to highly toxic hydrogen fluoride (HF) or hydrofluoric acid (HA) release have occurred over fast few decades in Korea. Thus, this study was conducted to investigate the fluoride (F) concentrations in paddy soil and brown rice from 2 different areas where the soils were exposed to HF and HA. In the first case, the HF leakage accident that occurred in 2012 affected the surrounding soils and crops and consequently, crops (rice) affected by HF were unavailable for forage even though F did not accumulate in the soil. For example, at the time of accident, F concentrations in brown rice samples were $33.0-1,395mg\;kg^{-1}$, while F concentrations in soil samples were $155-295mg\;kg^{-1}$ which were less than the Korean standard guideline values of $400mg\;kg^{-1}$. However, after a year, F concentrations in brown rice were observed below the detection limit ($1mg\;kg^{-1}$), although F concentrations in soils were similar with those in 2012. Also, large amounts of wastewater discharges containing HA occurred in 2013 and some agricultural soils exceeded the Korean standard guideline values for F ($400mg\;kg^{-1}$), but soil-plant F transfer was not observed. In conclusion, it was observed that soil to plant transfer of F is unlikely although HF and HA as gas or liquid form can cause direct damage to plants.

Electrochemical, in situ electrochemical scanning tunneling microscope (EC-STM), and attenuated total reflectance-FTIR (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopic methods were employed to investigate the preparation of atomically flat Si(111)-H surface in ammonium fluoride solutions. Electrochemical properties of atomically flat Si(111)-H surface were characterized by anodic oxidation and cathodic hydrogen evolution with the open circuit potential (OCP) of ca. -0.4 V in concentrated ammonium fluoride solutions. As soon as the natural oxide-covered Si(111) electrode was immersed in fluoride solutions, OCP quickly shifted to near -1 V, which was more negative than the flat band potential of silicon surface, indicating that the surface silicon oxide had to be dissolved into the solution. OCP changed to become less negative as the oxide layer was being removed from the silicon surface. In situ EC-STM data showed that the surface was changed from the initial oxidecovered silicon to atomically rough hydrogen-terminated surface and then to atomically flat hydrogenterminated surface as the OCP moved toward less negative potentials. The atomically flat Si(111)-H structure was confirmed by in situ EC-STM and ATR-FTIR data. The dependence of atomically flat Si(111)-H terrace on mis-cut angle was investigated by STM, and the results agreed with those anticipated by calculation. Further, the stability of Si(111)-H was checked by STM in ambient laboratory conditions.
Anion recognition via hydrogen-bonding interactions could be monitored with changes in UV-vis absorption spectra and in some cases easily monitored with naked eye. Urea receptors 1 and 2 connected with both an azo group and a nitrophenyl group as a signaling group for color change proved to be an efficient naked eye receptor for the fluoride ion. The anion recognition phenomena of the receptors 1 and 2 via hydrogen-bonding interactions were investigated through UV-vis absorption and $^1H$ NMR spectra.
Furfuryl acetate was chlorinated in presence of acetic acid using carbontetrachloride as the solvent. When the chlorination proceeded at the low concentration of acetic acid, the formation of the tetrachloride was more efficient than that of higher concentration. The chlorination done in presence of various Lewis acids such as aluminum chloride, hydrogen fluoride, and borontrifluoride could not give high yield of tetrachloride, but trichloride. In case of borontrifluoride and hydrogen fluoride, the decomposition of the reaction mixture was apparent. The results were discussed in terms of the stability of furfuryl nucleus towards an electron acceptor and the convenient procedure of preparing trichloro furfuryl acetate was described.
Parylene coating was adopted on CdZnTe (CZT) detector as a mechanical protection layer after wet passivation with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and ammonium fluoride (NH4F). Wet chemical passivant lose their effectiveness when exposed to the ambient conditions for a long time. Parylene coating could protect the effectiveness of passivation, by mechanically blocking the exposure to the ambient conditions. Stability of CZT detector was tested with the measurement of leakage current density and response to radio-isotopes. When the enough thickness of parylene (>100 ㎛) is adopted, parylene is a promising protection layer thereby ensuring the performance and long-term stability of CZT detectors.
