The sliding mode control is acceptable for Autonomous Underwater Vehicle(AUV), since the dynamics of AUV are highly nonlinear and have several parameter uncertainty such as the added mass terms, the hydrodynamic coefficients. The sliding mode control can deal well with nonlinearity of the system and offers a robustness to controller with parameter uncertainty. Since sliding mode control has the defect of chattering problem, only in ideal case the actuator can respond by control law. Therefore we propose the sliding mode control with non-chattering. And computer simulations illustrate the performance of the proposed controller.
This paper presents a non-regressor based adaptive control scheme for the trajectory tracking of underwater vehicle-mounted manipulator systems(UVMS). The adaptive control system includes a class of unmodeled effects is applied to the trajectory control of an UVMS. The only information required to implement this scheme ios the upper bound and lowe bound of the system parameter matrices the upper bound of unmodeled effects the number of joints the position and attitude of the vehicle and trajectory commands. The adaptive control law estimates control gains defined by the combinations of the bounded constants of system parameter matrices and of a filtered error equation. To evaluate the performance of the non-regressor based adaptive controller computer simulation was performed with a two-link planar robot model mounted on an underwater vehicle. The hydrodynamic effects acting on the manipulator are included. It is assumed that the vehicle's motion is slow and can be predicted with a proper compensator.
In this paper, the characteristics of lubrication and wear phenomena of journal bearing with respect to film parameter and Sommerfeld number variation are investigated experimentally and the design criterion for the hydrodynamic journal bearing is presented to avoid wear and seizure. Experimental work is performed with various rotating speed and load, and lubricant is used synthetic oil and mineral oil. By the results of the experiment, it is found that friction coefficient is decreased as Sommerfeld number is decreased, and that wear phenomenon is observed when Sommerfeld number is below $9$\times$10^{-4}$ and there are much alike in wear properties between synthetic and mineral oil.

This paper presents vibration analyses of hard disk drive (HDD) spindle systems based on the finite element method. The systems under investigation have a cantilevered shaft rotating on hydrodynamic bearings. In particular, the influence of stator's flexibility on major modes has been taken into account in dual ways lumped and distributed-parameter model approfches. Even the latter employs relatively macroscopic elements instead of extremely fine ones Popular in commercial codes. In order to prove the effectiveness of such formulated models, two types of HDD prototypes featuring different hub and stator structures are selected as examples. Compared to the first, the second type has a reinforced stator that would raise the natural frequency of the hub's translational (or sideway) mode. Both free and forced vibration characteristics are computed, and subsequently compared with the experimental data. It is our conclusion that Particularly the Proposed distributed model method is an efficient design tool for state-of-the-art HDD spindle systems.
We investigate the morphology of Active Galactic Nuclei(AGN) jets. AGN jets propagate over kpc $\~$ Mpc and their beam velocities are close to the speed of light. The reason why many jets propagate over so long a distance and sustain a very collimated structure is not well understood. It is argued that some dimensionless parameters, the density and the pressure ratio of the jet beam and the ambient gas, the Mach number of the beam, and relative speed of the beam compared to the speed of light, are very useful to understand the morphology of jets namely, bow shocks, cocoons, nodes etc. The role of each parameters has been studied by numerical simulations. But more research is necessary to understand it systematically. We have developed 2D relativistic hydrodynamic code to analyze relativistic jets. We pay attention to the propagation velocity which is derived from 1D momentum balance in the frame of the working surface. We show some of our models and discuss the dependence of the morphology of jets on the parameter.

A new hydrodynamic mock circulation system was developed, which can test prosthetic heart valves of various sizes in order to obtain valve parameters, such as pressure drop, regurgitation and valve performance index with a high reproducibility. High reproducibility can be obtained only under equal testing conditions, i.e., the compliance, resistance and inertance of the mock circulation system must be constant parameter estimation using actual pressure and flow data was applied to calculate these systemic variables in order to adjust them to create the necessary equal testing conditions.
The methods to determine the hydrodynamic coefficients for the fixed type artificial reefs which were constructed to control ecological system in coastal waters are compared and discussed by model test results. To calculate the wave forces, least square method show good agreement with the experimental results and more stability than maximum force component method or Fourier decomposition method. This modified least square method of weighting the square of measured force turned out to be the most feasible method for maximum force. Using the feasible method, hydrodynamic characteristics for artificial reefs on uniform slopes offshore and breaking zone were studied. They were properly related to Keulegan-Carpenter's number and found larger than previous results. Wave force coefficients for artificial reefs around breaking zone were distributed from 1.5 to 2.5, and the mean value was 2.0. Drag force components were more in evidence than inertia force in maximum force which is important parameter to evaluate stability for high-permeability structures. A formula for the calculation of the maximum force for artificial reefs design is proposed, using structural dimension, water particle velocity and Keulegan-Carpenter's number.
This paper aims at contributing to the field of ship design by introducing new systematic variation methods for ship hull forms. Hull form design is generally carried out in two stages. The first is the global variation considering the sectional area curve. Because the geometric properties of a sectional area curve have a decisive effect on the global hydrodynamic properties of ships, the design of a sectional area curve that satisfies various global design conditions, e.g., the displacement, longitudinal center of buoyancy, etc., is important in the initial hull form design stage. The second stage involves the local design of section forms. Section forms affect the local hydrodynamic properties, e.g., the local pressure in the fore- and aftbody. This paper deals with a new method for the systematic variation of sectional area curves. The longitudinal volume distribution of a ship depends on the sectional area curve, which can geometrically be controlled using parametric variation and a variation that uses the modification function. Based on these methods, we suggest a more generalized method in connection with the derivation of the lines for a new design compared to those for similar ships. This is the so-called the volumetric balanced variation (VOB) method for ship forms using a B-spline modification function and an optimization technique. In this paper the global geometric properties of hull forms are totally controlled by the form parameters. We describe the new method and some application examples in detail.

Linear and nonlinear hydrodynamic force, which acts on submerged circular and eilliptic cylinders in oscillations as well as in advancing motion, are investigated as an initial-boundary value problem using a numerical method, which makes use of the source distribution on the body surface and the spectral method for treating the free surface waves. In the numerical code developed here, the boundary condition at the body surface is linearized. Using the numerical code so attained, nonlinear effects for different forward speeds and of the large-amplitude motion are computed. One of the major findings is that, when the forward speed is large, the added mass has its minimum and the damping force change rapidly around the frequency corresponding to the speed-frequency parameter, $\tau$=0.25, Compared to the result of Grue's [10], who used linear theory to get abrupt changes in values of the added mass and the damping force at the frequency corresponding to $\tau$=0.25, the present study, which takes nonlinear effects into account, shows much smoother variations near the frequency.

The electric controlled marine diesel engine has fuel pump generating the high pressurized fuel for fuel injection to combustion chamber via a common rail. Fuel pump consists of a cam-roller system. Journal bearing installed between a roller and a cam-roller pin is subjected to fluctuating heavy and instant loads by cam lift. First, Kinematic analysis is carried out to predict bearing loads during one cycle acting on the journal bearing. Second, flexible multi-body dynamic analysis and transient elasto-hydrodynamic(EHD) lubrication analysis for journal bearing considering elastic deformation of cam-roller pin, roller and bearing are conducted using AVL EXCITE/PU software to predict lubrication performance. The clearance ratio and journal groove shape providing lubrication oil are important parameter in bearing design having good performance and can be changed easier than other design parameters such as diameter, width, oil supply pressure and bearing material grade. Generally, journal bearing performance is represented by the minimum oil film thickness(MOFT) and peak oil film pressure(POFP). As well as the traditional design parameters(MOFT, POFP), in this study, temperature rise of lubrication oil is also evaluated through the side leakage flow of supplied oil. By the evaluating MOFT, POFP and temperature rise, the optimum bearing clearance ratio is decided.
