2D Finite element analysis of rectangular water tank with separator wall using direct coupling

  • The present paper deals with the analysis of water tank with elastic separator wall. Both fluid and structure are discretized and modeled by eight node-elements. In the governing equations, pressure for the fluid domain and displacement for the separator wall are considered as nodal variables. A method namely, direct coupled for the analysis of water tank has been carried out in this study. In direct coupled approach, the solution of the fluid-structure system is accomplished by considering these as a single system. The hydrodynamic pressure on tank wall is presented for different lengths of tank. The results show that the magnitude of hydrodynamic pressure is quite large when the distances between the separator wall and tank wall are relatively closer and this is due to higher rotating tendency of fluid and the higher sloshed displacement at free surface.

필터 분리기를 이용한 여재별 도로퇴적물의 오염물질 제거효율 비교 (Comparison of Pollutant Removal Efficiency in Road Sediment with Media Using Filter Separator)

  • 강우 시 도로에서의 초기 유출수는 유 무기물질, 중금속 등 유해물질이 부유물질에 흡착되어 거동되는 비율이 높으므로 부유물질을 분리할 수 있다면 상당량의 오염부하를 줄일 수가 있다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 도로에서 배출되는 강우유출수의 오염저감을 위해 필터를 이용한 수리동력학적 필터분리기를 이용하여 부유물질을 처리함에 있어 필터별 오염물질 처리효율을 비교 평가함으로서 도로유출수에 대한 오염물질 저감을 위한 현장에의 적용 방안을 모색함에 있다. 사용한 여재는 perlite, 활성탄, zeolite와 이들의 혼합소재를 대상으로 하여 칼럼여과실험과 필터분리기를 이용한 현장에서의 처리실험을 통해 여재별 처리정도 및 처리효율을 비교하였다. 칼럼여과실험결과 대체로 SS는 활성탄과 perlite, 활성탄, 소성한 zeolite의 혼합여재가, 중금속은 zeolite 및 활성탄이 양호하였다. HDFS에 의한 처리실험은 perlite와 활성탄 혼합여재가 도로유출수 처리에 적합할 것으로 조사되었다. 혼합여재에 대한 평균 처리 효율은 여재층이 9 cm, 수면적부하율 192-1,469 $m^3/m^2/d$의 범위에서 SS 48.1%, BOD 31.9%, COD 32.6%, TN 15.5%, TP 17.3%의 제거율을 나타내었고, 중금속인 경우 Fe 26.0%, Cu 19.4%, Cr 25.7, Zn 16.6%, Pb 15.0%로 조사되었다. 도로유출수의 처리를 위한 HDFS의 여재로서는 perlite와 활성탄을 혼합한 여재가 적절하였다.

수리동력학적 분리장치에 의한 교량에서의 비점원 오염물질 처리시 운전변수와 분리효율에 관한 연구 (Operational Variables and Performance of Hydrodynamic Separator Treating Rainfall Runoff from Bridge)

  • A hydrodynamic separator using natural free energy provided by bridge was operated for the treatment of stormwater runoff. The separator was automatically controlled by using electronic valve which is connected with pressure meter. Normally the separator was opened during dry days, but it was closed after the capture of first flush. The results indicated that the average pressure and the flow rate were directly affected by the rainfall intensity. The pressure was more than 3 meters as the rainfall intensity was above 5 mm/hr. The percent volume of underflow decreased as the pressure and flow rate increased, but the percent volume of overflow showed an opposite behavior. The concentration of total suspended solids (TSS) in underflow increased as a function of increasing pressure while it decreased in overflow. The TSS separation efficiency was evaluated based on mass balance. It ranged from 30% to 90% with the pressure ranging from 2 to 10 meters, and it was proportional to pressure and flow rate. The analysis of water balance indicated that around 13% of total runoff was captured by the separator as a first flush, and this runoff was separated as underflow and overflow with the respective percent volume of 29% and 71%. The pollutants budget was also examined based on mass balance. The results showed that the percent of TSS, $COD_{cr}$, TN and TP in underflow were 73%, 59%, 7.6% and 49%, respectively.

역세척 Hydrodynamic Separator Filter를 이용한 미세입자 제거 특성 분석 (Performance Evaluation of Backwash Hydrodynamic Separator Filter for Treatment of Micro Particles)

  • 본 연구는 여재를 장착한 수리동역학적 여과분리장치(HSF)와 태양전지 구동형 수중펌프를 조합한 장치의 여재 역세척 가능성에 대하여 분석하였다. 수중펌프는 12볼트 직류모터로 구동되며 태양전지와 축전지로 가동된다. 수리동력학적 분리장치와 펄라이트 여재를 충진한 카트리지에 역세척용 노즐을 장착하였다. 입자물질들은 인공입자들을 이용하여 강우유출수내 입자농도를 모의 실험하였다. 인공입자들을 물에 분산시켜 강우유출수를 재현하였는데 사용한 입자들은 이온교환수지 입자, 실리카젤 입자, 그리고 상업지역 맨홀퇴적물질 입자 등이다. HSF장치는 아크릴 수지를 이용하였는데 여과조의 직경은 250 mm이고 전체적인 높이는 800 mm로 제작하였다. 유입수 SS 농도와 입경, 다양한 수면적 변화를 변화에 대한 역세척 방법별 SS 처리효율을 산정하였다. 전체적인 수면적부하율 범위는 308~$1,250m^3/m^2/day$이다. 태양전지를 이용한 최소한의 전력으로 구동되는 펌프를 이용하여 역세척을 실시한 결과 2대의 수중 펌프를 가동하여 역세척 시 역세척하지 않은 여재와 비교하여 약 18% 처리효율 증가효과를 나타내었다. 비점오염 처리장치에 소규모 태양전지를 활용하여 여재를 역세척할 경우 처리효율을 향상시킬 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

  • Recently, as the high-precision machinery industry has developed rapidly, peripheral equipment has been developed to improve machining efficiency. Peripheral equipment for machining includes cooling units, housings, oil separators, and much more. Oil, such as cleaning and cutting fluids, is used for machining. When waste oil is reused, the contamination of the workpieces and reduction in machining accuracy are generated by the waste oil, including sludge. Therefore, the development of an oil separator is necessary for efficiently separating oil, water, and sludge. The purpose of this study is to analyze the oil separation efficiency and flow characteristics of a high-speed centrifugal separator according to the rotation velocity and diffusion plate. The oil separation efficiency and flow characteristics were analyzed using hydrodynamic theory and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The results of this study will be used as basic data for the development of a high-speed centrifugal separator.

습식 DCT(Dual Clutch Transmission) 클러치 팩 내부에서의 체결 동작에 따른 변속기유 거동 연구 (Study on the Lubricant Flow Behaviors in the Wet Clutch Pack System of Dual Clutch Transmission)

  • This work studies the flow behaviors in the gap between the friction pad and separator in wet-clutch systems. The fluid volume of the lubricant is modeled using the entire system of wet-clutch pack of a dual clutch transmission that has larger outer radius of odd gear shifts and smaller inner radius of even gear shifts. Flow behaviors in the gap of the clutch pad are computed using the gear shift modes that consider the real relative velocities between the friction pad and separator. Flow behaviors in the gap of the disengaged clutch pad are mainly investigated for the wet-clutch system, whereas the engaged clutch pad is modeled with no fluid rate through the contacting surfaces. The developed hydrodynamic fluid pressures and velocity fields in the clutch pad gap are computed to obtain the relevant information for managing flow rates in wet-clutch packs under dual operating conditions during gear shifts. These hydrodynamic pressures and velocity fields are compared on the basis of each gear level and gap location, which is necessary to determine the effects of groove patterns on the friction pad. Shear stresses in the gap locations are also computed on the basis of the gear level for the inner and outer clutch pads. The computed results are compared and used for the design of cooling capacity against frictional heat generation in wet-clutch pack systems.

상향류식 수초여과지를 이용한 영양염류처리 (Treatment of Nutrients Using the Upflow Vegetated Filter)

  • 인공습지는 다양한 유형의 하수, 폐수에 대해 높은 제거효율을 가진 것으로 알려져 있다. 상향류식 인공습지는 10여년 전부터 많이 이용되는 이공습지 공법중의 하나이다. 본 연구에서는 인공습지의 하나인 부들(cattail)을 perlite에 식재한 상향류식 수초여과지(upflow vegetated filter UVF)장치와 수리동역학적 입자물질 전처리장치(hydrodynamic separator, HDS)를 조합한 장치를 제작하여 온실에 설치하였고, 인공하수에 대한 영양염류제거능을 분석하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 (i) 파일겆 규모의 UVF장치의 영양염류 처리능을 분석함에 있으며 (ii) Froude 수에 의한 확대설계시 직경에 대한 처리용량을 도출함에 있다 인공하수의 처리능을 분석한 결과 평균 수면적부하율 $22.7{\pm}9.6\;m^3/m^2/day$ 범위의 운전조건에서 인공하수의 처리능을 분석한 결과 평균 제거효율은 $COD_{Mn}$, TN, TP에 대해 각각 57.5%, 40.0%. 41.5%를 나타내었다. Froude수를 이용한 무차원 상사법칙을 이용하여 UVF장치의 실규모 설계용량을 산정한 결과 UVF의 직경을 3 m로 설계할 경우 75 $m^3/day$ 범위까지 처리가 가능한 것으로 산정되었다.

합류식 하수관거 월류수 및 우수관거 유출수의 수리동력학적 오염부하저감장치의 분석 (Analysis of Hydrodynamic Separators for Combined Sewer Overflows and Stromwater Runoff Control)

  • Appropriate removal of pollutants from combined sewer overflows(CSOs) and stormwater runoff is of primary concern to watershed managers trying to meet water quality standards even under a wet weather condition. Harmful substances associated with particles besides TSS and BOD are subjected to removal prior to discharge into the natural waters. Effectiveness of five major hydrodynamic separation technologies, Vortechs, Downstream Defender including Storm King for CSOs control, CDS, Stormceptor, and IHS, were evaluated in this study. There is not sufficient information for accurate evaluation of the removal efficiency for the pollutants from the stormwater runoff and CSOs. Based upon limited engineering data, however, all technologies were found to be effective in separation of heavy particles and floating solids. Technologies utilizing screens seem to have advantage in the treatment capacity than the other technologies relied fully on hydrodynamic behavior. The IHS system seems to have a strong potential in application for control of CSOs because of unique hydrodynamic behavior as well as a flexibility in opening size of the screens. Size of the particulate matter in the CSOs and stormwater runoff is found to be the most important parameter in selection of the type of the hydrodynamic separators. There exists an upper limit in the solids removal efficiency of a hydrodynamic separator, which is strongly dependent upon the particle size distribution of the CSOs and stormwater runoff.

Performance Analysis of a Hydrodynamic Separator for Treating Particulate Pollutants in Highway Rainfall Runoff

  • This study examined the separation characteristics of particles in the rainfall runoff from paved roads using a ${\varphi}7.5$ cm hydrocyclone. The volume fraction and total suspended solids concentrations in the overflow and underflow from the hydrocyclone, as well as the separation efficiency were determined. The results indicated that the overflow volume increased with increasing operational pressure, but decreased with decreasing ratio of underflow outlet to inlet sizes ($D_u/D_i$), while the underflow to overflow volumes showed contrary behavior. The total suspended solid (TSS) concentration ratio between the overflow and inflow ($TSS_{over/in}$) decreased as a function of the operational pressure, while the corresponding ratio of underflow to inflow ($TSS_{under/in}$) increased. There was no visible difference in the $TSS_{over/in}$ with increasing $D_u/D_i$ ratio, but the $TSS_{under/in}$ decreased sharply. The particle removal efficiency was mainly affected by the particle size.
