• A study has been made of the rccovery of copper (11) by solvent extraction with Alamine336 (Tri-n-oclylamine) as a extractant from hydrochloric etching solutions. The effect of extractant concentrations, hydrochloric acid, chloride Ion concentrations and phase ratio (organiclaqueaus) on copper extraction were studied. Experimental results showed that the concenl~atiano f extractant and the phase ratio strongly influenced the copper extraction, and the extraction percent of capper Increased at higher hydrochloric acid and chloride ion mncmhation. We proposed that the optimum extrachon stages of copper for continuous extraction process by analysidng thc McCabe-Thielc diagram. Stripping of copper from the loaded organic phases wn be accomplished by pure water (H, O) as a dripping reagent effectively. As the tcmpcrature is increased, thc stripping of copper is enhanced.

 • Statement of Problem: Titanium has many advantages of high biocompatibility, physical porperties, low-weight, low price and radiolucency, but it is incompatible with conventional dental porcelain due to titanium's oxidative nature. Many previous studies have shown that they used the method of sandblast surface treatment prior to porcelain application, the researchs are processing about the method of acid etching or surface coating. Purpose: The purpose of this research is to study the effect on bond strength between titanium and porcelain when using macro-surface treatment and micro-surface treatment and macro and micro surface treatment. Material and method: In this study, we evaluated the bond strength by using 3-point bending test based on ISO 9693 after classified 7 groups-group P : polished with #1200 grit SiC paper, group SS : sandblasted with $50{\mu}m$ aluminum oxides, group LS : sandblasted with $250{\mu}m$ alumium oxides, group HC : treated with 10% hydrochloric acid, group NF : treated with 17% solution of fluoric acid and nitric acid, group SHC : treated with 10% hydrochloric aicd after sandblsting with $50{\mu}m$ alumium oxides, group SNF treated with 17% solution of fluoric acid and nitric acid. Results : Within the confines of our research, the following results can be deduced. 1. Group SS which was sandblasted with $50{\mu}m$ aluminum oxides showed the highest bond strength of 61.74 MPa and significant differences(P<0.05). The bond strengths with porcelain in groups treated acid etching after sandblasting decreased more preferable than the group treated with sandblasting only. It gives significant differences(P<0.05). 2. After surface treatments, the group treated with sandblasting showed irregular aspect formed many undercuts, in the SEM photographs. The group treated with hydrochloric acid had the sharp serrated surfaces, the group treated with the solution of fluoric acid and nitric acid had the smooth surfaces, the group with sandblasting and hydrochloric acid had irrigular and porous structure, the group with sandblasting and the solution of fluoric acid and nitric acid had crater-like surfaces. But all of the groups treated with acid etching was not found and undercut. Conclusion: In above results, average surface roughness increase, bond strength also increase, but surface topographs influences more greatly on bond strengths.

 • Clinoptilolite zeolite samples were treated with hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid of different strength and the adsorption characteristics and crystal structures of the original and acid-treated clinoptilolites were studied. By treating with hydrochloric acid, the adsorbed amount increased to 5-fold for nitrogen, to 3-fold for benzene, but for methanol no significant change was observed. As acid strength increased further, there were declines both in adsorption capacity and crystallinity. The results showed that the increase of adsorbed amount was caused by the rearrangement of the pore entrance and cation exchange. A method for determination of clinoptilolite content in natural mineral based on benzene adsorption on acid-treated sample is proposed. By this method, the original sample used in this study was found to contain approximately 40% of clinoptilolite. Using pulse technique in micro-catalytic reactor system, the catalytic activities of hydrochloric acid-treated clinoptilolites in cumene cracking and toluene disproportionation reactions were measured. For cumene cracking reaction, the maximum conversion was observed for the 0.5 N hydrochloric acid-treated sample. It is instructive to note that the maximum benzene adsorption was also observed for the sample treated with 0.5 N HCl. This suggest that the conversion rate was determined mainly by the rate of transport of reactants and the products through the pore structure. In the toluene disproportionation reaction, the same trend was observed. But the rate of deactivation was high for samples with strong acid sites. Since catalyst having higher activity was deactivated more easily, the conversion maximum was shifted to the sample treated with higher concentration of acid, -1N. The catalytic activity of $Ca^{2+} and La^{3+} ion exchanged samples for the toluene disproportion was much lower than that of acid-treated samples. Introduction of Ca^{2+} and La^{3+}$ into the pore structure apparently decreases the effective pore diameter of acid-treated clinoptilolite thus limiting the diffusion of reactants and products.

 • Using rice husks pulverized by rotating knife cutter, the raw rice husk powder was solution treated by nitric and hydrochloric acids in order to separate phytolith from organic constituents. Because of the strong resistance of organic components of rice husk to acids, the raw powder had to be boiled in concentrated acids up to 300 min. By boiling in nitric acid for 60~120 min, all organic components were resolved while amorphous silica Powder of about 20 nm in size and of higher than 99.8% in purity was left behind. Inferior to the nitric acid, hydrochloric acid was not able to resolve organic component completely leaving unresolved matter of about 40% by weight even after 300 min of boiling. From the acid treatments and impurity analyses, it is considered that most of metallic elements in rice husks are combined to organic components that are easily soluble to acids.

 • This study was performed to improve many problems of leaching test of industrial waste sludge analysis. We analyze sludges by variation of leachant, pH and leaching time. The results were as follows: 1. As leaching at pH 5.8 by our leaching test without control of pH during leaching, the leaching rates were very low as below 1%. 2. As leaching at pH 5.8 continuously by hydrochloric acid every 2 hour, the leaching rates were higher than before 1. 3. As leaching at pH 5.0 continuously by acetic acid every 2 hour, the leaching rates were higher than 1, 2. 4. The variations of leaching rate by leaching time were smaller increase after 10 hours than before. 5. It will be recommendable that the pH of leachant maintain constantly during leaching as level of acid rain, and the acetic acid is more effective than hydrochloric acid as leachant.

 • The determination of fluoride and the nutritious calcium in infusion of teas are explained. Tea leaves were pulverized and were immersed in boiling water. The solution was filtered and fluoride, calcium and oxalic acid were determined by the ion chromatography. The quantities of fluoride, calcium and oxalate ions extracted from 100 g of tea leaves were calculated. Tea leaves were also immersed in 0.5 M hydrochloric acid and extracted oxalate and calcium ions were analyzed. The free oxalic acid and calcium were extracted in boiling water and the total ones were extracted in hydrochloric acid. The quantity of calcium oxalate was calculated from the total and the free oxalic acids. The free calcium was estimated to be nutritious.

 • The ion exchange capacity of HDBPDA ion exchanger, {(4,5) : (13,14)-dibenzo-6,9,12-trioxa-3,15,21-triazabicyclo[15.3.l]heneicosa-(1,17,19)(18,20,21) triene ion exchanger: HDBPDA ion exchanger} was 3.8 meq/g. The distribution coefficients of alkali and alkaline earth metal ions in water and the various concentration of hydrochloric acid were determined. Concentration of hydrochloric acid have almost not influenced on the distribution coefficients of alkali and alkaline earth metal ions, but generally, the distribution coefficient was slightly increased with decrease of concentration of hydrochloric acid. The distribution coefficients of metal ions in water are larger than those of various hydrochloric acid concentrations. Also, alkali and alkaline earth metal ions are separated by column ion exchange chromatography using HDBPDA ion exchange with water as eluent. The distribution coefficents of alkali and alkaline earth metal ions were increased with increase of ionic radii of metal ions.

 • The purpose of this study is to improve the experiment of dihydrogen production which was newly added to the 7th curriculum of the elementary science education. For this study, the teachers who had taught 6th grade students were asked about the difficulties they ever had in the dihydrogen production experiment by questionnaire. And the contents of the science textbook and teachers' guide book were analyzed. According to this investigation, the following controversial points were found. First, they didn't have exact explanations about the concentration of hydrochloric acid and the quantity of hydrochloric acid and magnesium in the science textbook and teachers' guide book. Second, the experiment which can show well the nature of dihydrogen was not included because of the safety problem. So this paper presents the ideal condition for the production of dihydrogen and an experimental method to show the nature of dihydrogen. The most ideal condition of dihydrogen production includes 40 mL of 2 molarity hydrochloric acid and 1 g of magnesium. It took 5' 42' on average to gather two bottles (250 mL) of dihydrogen. In this condition it was possible to reduce the risk of accidents and to economize the materials. This paper proposes the experiment of dihydrogen explosion with a test tube and a film box which is not included in the 7th scince textbook. If teachers show the experiment of dihydrogen explosion with a test tube or film box to students at a class, it will be more interesting for students. And they will be able to help students to understand that dihydrogen can be gathered.

 • One of the most important elements of the management of chemical accident is threat zone estimation of fires, explosions and toxic gas dispersion based on chemical releases. The threat zone estimation is going to be standard of emergency response for the first defender and base line data of off-site risk assesment (hereinafter referred to as "ORA") and risk management plan (hereinafter referred to as "RMP"). Generally, ALOHA form EPA(U.S.) and Kora(from KOREA MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT) has been used for the off-site consequence analysis in Korea. However it is hard to predict accurate consequences rapidly in case of emergency. Hydrochloric acid is a multipurpose raw material used in many industrial applications such as chemical, metal and food industries. It is usually treated in concentrations from 10 ~ 35 %, and release accident have occurred frequently. In this study, we have developed a simplified estimating method and equation to calculate threat zone easily in case of emergency due to release accident of hydrochloric acid.
