Self-Tuning Gain-Scheduled Skyhook Control for Semi-Active Suspension System: Implementation and Experiment

  • In this paper a self-tuning gain-scheduled skyhook control for semi-active suspension systems is investigated. The dynamic characteristics of a continuously variable damper including electro-hydraulic pressure control valves is analyzed. A 2-d.o.f. time-varying quarter-car model that permits variations in sprung mass and suspension spring coefficient is considered. The self-tuning skyhook control algorithm proposed in this paper requires only the measurement of body acceleration. The absolute velocity of the sprung mass and the relative velocity of the suspension deflection are estimated by using integral filters. Two-phase Pressure Drop in a Horizontal Rectangular Microchannel (수평 사각 마이크로채널 내에서의 2상 유동 압력강하)

  • An experimental investigation was performed to study two-phase pressure drop of deionized water in a microchannel. Measurement and evaluation of two-phase frictional pressure gradient were carried out using a single horizontal rectangular microchanne1 having a hydraulic diameter of $100{\mu}m$. Tests were performed for mass fluxes of 90, 169, and 267 $kg/m^2$s and heat fluxes of 200-700 $kW/m^2$. Test results showed that the measured two-phase frictional pressure gradient increased with the mass flux and vapor quality. Most macro-channel correlations of two-phase frictional pressure gradient did not provide reliable predictions except under certain limited conditions.

Measurement and evaluation of boiling heat transfer coefficients were carried out using a single horizontal rectangular microchannel having a hydraulic diameter of $100{\mu}m$. Test results showed that the measured boiling heat transfer coefficients had no dependence on mass flux and vapor quality.   • An experimental method for measuring side-necking deformation near a crack-tip is described. It is based on Stereoscopic Digital Speckle Photography and Digital Image Correlation, and it is simple and robust to mechanical vibration inherent to a hydraulic material test system. The validity and accuracy are evaluated through a calibration fur rigid body translation. A case study has been performed for a CT specimen made of a ductile steel and the three dimensional profiles of the side-necked region are presented as the load increases. Also, the details of the procedure and the surface treatment are discussed.

  • The present study aims at establishing the design procedure of regenerative pumps. It is based on the new momentum exchange theory proposed in Yoo, Park and Chung. Salient feature of the present design procedure is that it does not require input of any kinds of empirical design data. Using the design procedure, a prototype regenerative pump has been designed and manufactured to confirm its validity. Comparison between the predicted performance and the experimental measurement reveals that the prototype pump has its maximum efficiency at the design flow rate and that the proposed performance analysis method satisfactorily predicts the machine performance.

  • During the service life of a structure, design complications and unexpected events may induce unforeseen vibrations. These vibrations can be generated by malfunctioning machinery or machines that are modified or placed without considering the original structural design because of a change in the intended use of the structure. Significant vibrations occurred at a natural gas plant cooling structure during its operation due to cavitation effect within the hydraulic system. This study presents findings obtained from the in-situ vibration measurements and following finite-element analyses of the cooling structure. Comments are made on the updated performance level and damage state of the structure using the results of these measurements and corresponding numerical analyses. An attempt was also made to assess the applicability of traditional displacement-based vulnerability estimation methods in the health monitoring of structures under vibrations with a character different from those due to seismic excitations.

  • This paper introduces a process of the development of a vibration test dummy for the posture of inclined seating. Experimental devices was invented to measure apparent mass curves on the contact point of the hip and the back of a seated human body. During the excitation of a rigid seat secured to a hydraulic exciter, force and acceleration signals were measured on the contact points to determine the apparent mass. In order to describe nonlinear characteristics of a human body, seven levels of Gaussian random signal were used for the base excitation. The modeling of the human body will be performed using measured apparent mass curves. The modeling will be done by June and the prototype of the test dummy will be invented in the following six months.

  • According to the developments of automobile industry, the technology to enhance noise, vibration and harshness(NVH) performance has been studying in a point of view of ride comfort and quietness. Especially the use of computer aided engineering(CAE) simulation tools such as finite element(FE) analysis allows engineers to efficiently evaluate NVH performance. This paper presents the method to bulid FE models for full vehicle including engine, transmission. suspension and steering system, also to evaluate vibration performance of full vehicle. The full vehicle model, which is discussed, is correlated with the result of the frequency response measurement in the case of the car shake performance for high speed driving.

  • Fine grid calculations are reported for the developing turbulent flow in a straight duct and a curved duct of square cross-section with a radius of curvature to hydraulic diameter ratio ${\delta}=R_c/H_H=3.357$ and a bend angle of 180 deg. A sequence of modeling refinements is introduced; the replacement of wall function by a fine mesh across the sublayer and a low Reynolds number second moment closure up to the near wall sublayer in which the non-linear return to isotropy model and the cubic-quasi-isotropy model for the pressure strain are adopted; and the introduction of a multiple source model for the exact dissipation rate equation. Each refinement is shown to lead to an appreciable improvement in the agreement between measurement and computation.

Effect of Inclined Wall Number on Heat Transfer and Friction in the Smooth Channel (매끈한 사각채널에서 경사 벽면 수가 열전달과 마찰에 미치는 효과)

  • The local heat transfer and pressure drop of developed turbulent flows in the smooth convergent/divergent channels with rectangular and square cross-sectional areas along the axial distance have been investigated experimentally. The measurement was conducted within the range of Reynolds numbers from 15,000 to 89,000. The channel hydraulic diameter ratios of 0.67 and 1.49 in the rectangular channel with 2 inclined walls and the ratios 0.75 and 1.33 in the square channel with 4 inclined walls are considered. The comparison showed that among the four channels the square divergent channel has the highest thermal performance at the identical mass flow rate, at the identical pumping power, and at the static pressure drop.
