  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to assess the dentists' subjective satisfaction with the crestal approach sinus (CAS) kit, a device for maxillary sinus membrane elevation by the crestal approach using a special drilling system and hydraulic pressure, and to summarize the subjective satisfaction of dental implants placed after a sinus lift procedure with the CAS kit. Methods: Thirty dental clinicians who had experience with dental implant placement after a sinus lift procedure with the CAS kit from June 2010 to May 2012 were included in this study. The questionnaire for the evaluation of the dentists' subjective satisfaction with the CAS kit was sent to the respondents and returned. The questionnaire was composed of two main parts. The first part was related to the sinus membrane perforation rate. The second part was related to the dentists' subjective satisfaction with the CAS kit. Results: A total of 28 dentists answered the questionnaire. Among 924 implant cases, sinus membrane perforation occurred in 38 cases (4.1%). Among the 28 dentists, 26 dentists (92.9%) were satisfied or very satisfied with the CAS kit. In particular, 24 dentists (85.7%) reported that safety, cutting performance, and user-friendliness of the CAS drill were advantages of the CAS kit. However, 7 dentists (25%) did not routinely use the hydraulic lifter for sinus membrane elevation. Conclusions: From the survey, it was shown that the respondents were generally satisfied with the CAS kit and that the cutting performance and safety of the drill component were considered strengths of the CAS kit.

  • The purpose of this paper was to present a model analysis-based design process and verification results for the high-lift control system of aircraft. For this, we used Matlab/Simulink, one of the most widely-used physical modeling tools. The high-lift control system can be divided into three domains. (i.e., Electronic control domain, Hydraulic actuation domain, and Mechanical power transmission domain) Based on this division, we modeled each of the major domains and sub-components, and integrated them to complete the complicated system model. During the development process, each model block was tuned by referring to the results of pre-test and parts acceptance tests. As a result, the entire performance model and the developed system were completely verified, through unit components and system integrated performance tests. Finally, we summarize the process and results applied to the design process of high-lift control system and present future work.

  • Mechanical tappet is used to reduce the cost and friction loss compared with hydraulic tappet. But the mechanical tappet doesn't have the ability to control the clearance between cams and valves and is selected by measuring the distance between valves and cams in order to minimize the clearance of valves by considering thermal expansion of valves. So, the valve clearance is nearly zero after fully warming-up periods, but there is valve clearance before warming-up. Especially at cold condition, the clearance is relatively large and can bring about some problems. In this study, the valve motions like lift, velocity, seating velocity and bouncing height were studied at various valve clearance conditions by experiment and analysis. As the valve clearance increases, the ramp area becomes shorten and it causes the valve train motion to have bad effects.

  • The seawater lift pump system is responsible for maintaining the open canal level to provide the suction flow of circulating water pump at the set point. The objective of this paper is to design a 2-stage mixed flow pump(for seawater lifting) by inverse design and to evaluate the overall performance and the local flow fields of the pump by using a commercial CFD code. Rotating speed of the impeller is 1,750 rpm with the flow rate of 2,700 $m^3/h$. Finite volume method with structured mesh and Realizable ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model is used to guaranty more accurate prediction of turbulent flow in the pump impeller. The numerical results such as static head brake horse power and efficiency of the mixed flow pump are compared with the reference data. Also, the periodic condition calculation method for the mixed flow pump was carried out in order to investigate the pump performance characteristics with the modification of impeller geometry.

  • Abundant information about analyses of single steam generator tube rupture (SGTR) events is available because of its importance in terms of safety. However, there are few literatures available on analyses of multiple steam generator tube rupture (MSGTR) events. In addition, knowledge of transients and consequences following a MSGTR event are very limited as there has been no occurrence of MSGTR event in the commercial operation of nuclear reactors. In this study, a postulated MSGTR event in an APR1400 is analyzed using thermal-hydraulic system code MARSI.4. The present study aims to examine the effects of affected steam generator selection. The main steam safety valve (MSSV) lift time for four cases are compared in order to examine how long operator response time is allowed depending on which steam generate. (S/G) is affected. The comparison shows that the cases where two steam generators are simultaneously affected allow longer time for operator action compared with the cases where a single steam generator is affected. Furthermore, the tube ruptures in the steam generator where a pressurizer is connected leads to the shortest operator response time.

  • The function of a vehicle holding device (VHD) is to securely hold a launch vehicle on the launch pad and release the launch vehicle at maximum thrust after engine ignition to allow lift-off of the launch vehicle. During the release of the launch vehicle, to prevent the Ka doing a doing a doing mode, which is the vertical oscillation of the entire liquid propellant, the release of the launch vehicle should be gradual. In this study, for the gradual release of a launch vehicle, a hydraulic system comprising an accumulator and pyro valve to operate a hydraulic cylinder and control the speed of the cylinder with an orifice is introduced. Through a test, the influence of design variables on the cylinder speed is analyzed. Based on this, the design values of the hydraulic cylinder are determined. Through this study, the engineering basis for developing a VHD releasing a launch vehicle at maximum thrust is provided.

  • Purpose: The objective of this paper was to compare test standards regarding the performance and safety of agricultural tractors to identify the differences in test conditions, measurement tolerances, and test procedures. Based on the comparison, some recommendations were proposed for possible revisions or improvements to current tractor test standards. Methods: The test standards and codes of major standards development organizations (SDOs), such as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), EC type approval, and the board of actions of the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratories (NTTL), were selected and analyzed. Comparison of the test standards: The ISO provides references for fuel and lubricants for tractor tests, and the OECD provides additional measurements for calculating fuel consumption characteristics during the power take-off (PTO) tests. The ISO, EC type approval, and the ASABE provide PTO protective device and the safety requirements. During drawbar power tests, seven transmission ratios are selected for fully automatic transmissions, according to the OECD. In case of hydraulic lift tests, ISO 789-2 and OECD Code 2 advise the use of a static lift force, while SAE J283 advises the use of additional dynamic lift capacity tests for a better representation of in-field operations. The OECD, the ISO, and EC type approval determine the seat index point (SIP), whereas the ASABE determines the seat reference point (SRP) for roll-over protective structure (ROPS) tests. Diversified measurement tolerances were among the braking performance test standards. The European Union (EU) has developed daily limits for vibration exposures with adaptations from ISO 2631-1. Electromagnetic compatibility evaluations are emerging of high-efficiency tractors due to the long-term conformance to electromagnetic emissions and interferences. Comparisons of tractor test standards discussed in this paper are expected to provide useful information for tractor manufacturers and standards development personnel to improve the performance and safety test standards of tractors.

  • This paper presents the strength safety of a LPG cylinder, which is fabricated by a steel sheet forming and a welding technology. The strength safety of a cylinder is guaranteed by analyzing a stress distribution of a LPG cylinder structure using a finite element method. The FEM computed results indicate that the hydraulic test gas pressure of $31kg/cm^2$ generates a concentrated local stress near the upper round end plate, which exceeds the yield strength of a LPG cylinder. Thus, the current hydraulic test pressure may be rechecked and revised because this pressure increases the fatigue failure and decreases the lift of the pressure vessel. The normal operation and sealing gas pressures such as $9kg/cm^2\;and\;18.6kg/cm^2$ are relatively safe for a steel LPG cylinder.
