  • The hydraulic couplings have been widely used in industries, automobile, and power-station drives including ships. A mathematical analysis by which the design and application of hydraulic couplings are made is used in conventional design formulae and general roto-dynamic theories. The fluid flow of hydraulic couplings can be considered to have two component, one circumferentially about the coupling axis, and the other passing fluid from the pump to the turbine in the plane of the coupling axis. Tests have been carried out on the full-scale production coupling. The performance test consists of taking measurement of torque of the fluid coupling for three different amount of working fluid inside with various loads to the output shaft. The purpose of this research is to construct the experimental test equipments and to establish a series of performance test for the domestically developed hydraulic couplings, and to obtain experimental results which can be used to improve the performance of the hydraulic coupling and to solve the practical problems confronted in operation.

  • Belt-conveyer driving systems, which transport coal stored in the yard of a coal-fired fossil power plant to coal silos, experienced severe vibrations. From measurement, it was found that the vibrations showed beating phenomenoa and arose from hydraulic couplings installed between motors and gear boxes. In the present paper, described are results of case studies on vibration troubleshooting for the belt-conveyor driving systems: 1)resonance of the system; 2)field balancing.

  • A thermal-hydraulic code, named CUPID, has been being developed for the realistic analysis of transient two-phase flows in nuclear reactor components. The CUPID code development was motivated from very practical needs, including the analyses of a downcomer boiling, a two-phase flow mixing in a pool, and a two-phase flow in a direct vessel injection system. The CUPID code adopts a two-fluid, three-field model for two-phase flows, and the governing equations are solved over unstructured grids with a semi-implicit two-step method. This paper presents an overview of the CUPID code development and assessment strategy. It also presents the code couplings with a system code, MARS, and, a three-dimensional reactor kinetics code, MASTER.

  • Coupling systems for trains need more complicated buffer equipments than existing systems because the recent tendency of the regulations enforces trains to be safe for collisions even when the driving speed is higher than before. Using hydraulic buffer is an effective way to satisfy the requirement while it causes the increase of the cost for the coupling system. In this study, we introduce the methodology to build a simulation model for the hydraulic buffer, which could be installed into the coupling systems. In the simulation model of the hydraulic buffer, the reacting force is determined by both buffer stroke and speed whereas the elastic buffer model is designed by using only the buffer stroke in other studies. The simulation results with the advanced hydraulic buffer model shows that the simulating results can be close the real experimental results around 10%, and, if we considers friction forces, the simulation calculates the maximum force within 10% comparing to the experimental.

  • This paper investigates coupled thermal, mechanical and hydraulic phenomena in deep rock mass especially for underground heat storage system. Firstly, concepts of underground heat storage were presented and coupling phenomena in this area were illustrated. In order to understand the basic mechanism of thermal, hydraulic and deformation behavior in rock cavern disturbed by thermal gradient about 10$0^{\circ}C$, various numerical experiments were conducted using several codes. The study involves the behavior of fractured rock mass including rock joint. In spite of the limitation of codes modelling fully coupled effects, these codes could be applied in analysis of underground heat storage. The heat loss in rock mass, which is a major factor in heat storage, is insignificant in all results.

  • A three-dimensional thermal-hydraulic code, CUPID, has been developed for the analysis of transient two-phase flows at component scale. The CUPID code adopts a two-fluid three-field model for two-phase flows. A semi-implicit two-step numerical method was developed to obtain numerical solutions on unstructured grids. This paper presents an overview of the CUPID code development and assessment strategy. The governing equations, physical models, numerical methods and their improvements, and the systematic verification and validation processes are discussed. The code couplings with a system code, MARS, and, a three-dimensional reactor kinetics code, MASTER, are also presented.

  • An injection experiment was carried ut to investigate the pressure domain within which hydromechanical coupling influences considerably the hydrologic behavior of a granite rock mass. The resulting database is used for testing a numerical model dedicated to the analysis of such hydromechanical interactions. These measurements were performed in an open hole section, isolated from shallower zones by a packer set at a depth of 275 m and extending down to 840 m. They consisted in a series of flow meter injection tests, at increasing injection rates. Field results showed that conductive fractures from a dynamic and interdependent network, that individual fracture zones could not be adequately modeled as independent systems, that new fluid intakes zones appeared when pore pressure exceeded the minimum principal stress magnitude in that well, and that pore pressures much larger than this minimum stress could be further supported by the circulated fractures. These characteristics give rise to the question of the influence of the morphology of the natural fracture network in a rock mass under anisotropic stress conditions on the effects of hydromechanical couplings.

  • Due to ever-growing advancements in computers and relatively easy access to them, many efforts have been made to develop high-fidelity, high-performance, multi-physics tools, which play a crucial role in the design and operation of nuclear reactors. For this purpose in this study, the neutronic Monte Carlo and thermal-hydraulic sub-channel codes entitled MCNP and COBRA-EN, respectively, were applied for external coupling with each other. The coupled code was validated by code-to-code comparison with the internal couplings between MCNP5 and SUBCHANFLOW as well as MCNP6 and CTF. The simulation results of all code systems were in good agreement with each other. Then, as the second problem, the core of the VVER-1000 v446 reactor was simulated by the MCNP4C/COBRA-EN coupled code to measure the capability of the developed code to calculate the neutronic and thermohydraulic parameters of real and industrial cases. The simulation results of VVER-1000 core were compared with FSAR and another numerical solution of this benchmark. The obtained results showed that the ability of the MCNP4C/COBRA-EN code for estimating the neutronic and thermohydraulic parameters was very satisfactory.
