A study on the operation method of safety device of rotating quick coupler (회전 퀵커플러 안전장치 동작방법 연구)

  • Excavators are construction machines used for digging soil, transporting soil, dismantling buildings and clearing the ground at construction sites. There are various attachments attached to the arm end of the excavator and used for various operations. There are the most common types of buckets attached for excavation and other types of attachments used for foresting, road cleaning, snow removal, and waste disposal. When multiple types of work are done at the same time, several attachments must be replaced and a device called a quick coupler is used to reduce replacement time. Although a quick coupler reduces the replacement time of the Attachment, it is necessary to attach safety devices to prevent unintentional detachment of attached attachments during the operation. To prevent the attachment from leaving or falling regardless of the operator's intention, support is installed in the hook of the bucket pin and controlled through a separate hydraulic cylinder to ensure safety. When attaching an attachment, it shall be attached without any action. This study is intended to verify the design validity of safety devices to prevent falls of attachments occurring at construction sites.

The effects of geometrical buoy shape with nonlinear Froude-Krylov force on a heaving buoy point absorber

  • This study examined the effects of buoy shape and Nonlinear Froude-Krylov force (NFK) on a heaving-buoy-type Wave Energy Converter (WEC). Based on the Maclaurin expansion, the theoretical solutions of the NFK were derived for three different buoy shapes; hemispheric buoy, circular vertical cylinder, and truncated conical cylinder. A hydraulic power take-off system was adopted, and the latching control strategy was applied to maximize the extracted power from the WEC. The nonlinear effects of the Froude-Krylov force and restoring force on the heaving point absorber were investigated by comparing the heave Response Amplitude Operator (RAO) and time-averaged power extraction. The results showed that the conventional linear analyses were overestimated by up to 50% under the high amplitude wave condition. The latching control strategy was the most effective when peak wave period of regular or irregular wave was 0.4-0.45 times the heave natural period of the buoy.

Influence of Surface Roughness on Friction and Wear Characteristics of SUS 321 for Hydraulic Cylinder Parts Application

  • This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the impact of surface roughness on the friction and wear properties of SUS 321, an austenitic stainless steel variant produced using the laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) technique, which is a prevalent additive manufacturing method. After the LPBF fabrication, the specimens go a heat treatment process aimed at alleviating residual stress. Subsequently, they are polished extensively to achieve a refined and smooth surface. To deliberately introduce controlled variations in surface roughness, an etching process is employed. This multi-step method encompassed primary etching in a 3M hydrochloric acid solution, followed by secondary etching in a 35 wt% ferric chloride solution, with varying durations applied to different specimens. A comprehensive evaluation of the surface characteristics ensued, employing precise techniques such as surface roughness measurements and meticulous assessments of water droplet contact angles. Following the surface treatment procedures, a series of friction tests are performed to explore the tribological behavior of the etched specimens. This in-depth investigation reached its peak by revealing valuable insights. It clarified a strong correlation between intentionally altered surface roughness, achieved through etching processes, and the resulting tribological performance of LPBF-fabricated SUS 321 stainless steel. This significantly advances our grasp of material behavior in tribological applications.

Structural Safety Evaluation of Stabbing System for Pre-Piling Jacket Substructure under Construction (프리파일링 자켓 하부구조물용 스태빙시스템의 시공중 구조안전성 평가)

  • A stabbing system is an underwater jointing structure for positioning the jacket substructure for offshore wind power on top of a pile foundation that is already installed in the seabed. In this paper, the structural safety of the stabbing system currently being developed in South Korea was evaluated through finite element analysis. For this study, conformity of the finite element modeling technique for a gripper (hydraulic cylinder) was reviewed, and the structural safety of the stabbing system was evaluated based on the stress safety factor under three design load combinations (combinations of vertical, shear, and moment loads). From the analysis, it was verified that the pile foundation and the stabbing system mounted on top of it are structurally safe according to the stress safety factor, and there will be no interference between major structural components (i.e., guide cone and pile foundation) due to rotation of the guide cone at the end of the jacket leg.

Hydraulic Resistance Characteristics of Compacted Weathered Granite Soil by Rotating Cylinder Test and Image Analysis (영상처리기법과 회전식 수리저항성능 실험을 이용한 다짐화강풍화토의 수리저항특성 분석)

  • Recently, in Korea, problems related with unstability of slope or sinkhole in urban area due to erosion of compacted granite soil which was used as a backfill or embankment material have been treated as important issues. Small hole might develop inside of backfill area due to erosion of not only weathered granite soil but also clay, silt, fine sand size particles when underground water flows. Once erosion starts in a soil mass, erosion rate increases gradually to cause rapid destruction. In this study, a rotating cylinder test (RCT) was performed to evaluate the hydraulic resistance characteristics of compacted weathered granite soil under various relative densities and preconsolidation pressures. Meanwhile, an image analysis method was introduced to analyze radius of irregularly eroded sample. It was found that image analysis is an effective means of minimizing the error in calculating a critical shear stress and threshold shear stress on the irregularly eroded sample. Furthermore, in general, hydraulic resistance capacity increases with the increase of relative density and preconsolidation pressure.

Design and Implementation of 3DoF Manipulator with Cable-Hydraulic Driven Actuation for Cooperative Robot with High Output and Low Inertia (고출력 및 경량 협동로봇 위한 케이블-유압 구동 3자유도 매니퓰레이터 설계 및 구현)

  • This paper presents cable-hydraulic driven 3DoF (Degree-of-Freedom) manipulator for cooperative robot with high output/low inertia and enhancing lager workspace of hydraulic manipulator. Hydraulic actuation could be solution to design more higher output manipulator than the one of electric motor actuation due to install actuation source and robot joint separated. In spite of this advantage, the conventional hydraulic driven manipulator using cylinder or vane actuator is not suitable for the candidate of cooperative robot because smaller workspace owing to small RoM (Range of Motion) hydraulic actuator. In this paper, we propose 3DoF manipulator with cable-hydraulic actuation which is more larger ratio of payload-to-weight than the one of conventional cooperative manipulator and larger workspace than the one of existing hydraulic driven manipulator. The performance of proposed manipulator was demonstrated by the experiments for confirming overall workspace task, high payload operation task under worst situation and comparing repeatability between developed manipulator and existed cooperative robots. The results of experiments showed that the appropriate performance of proposed manipulator for cooperative robot.

  • In general, piston pumps are frequently used for concrete pumping. Filling coefficient signifies the ratio volume of a hydraulic cylinder to volume of concrete inside the cylinder. Therefore, it may be considered as a parameter directly affecting the flow rate and efficiency for concrete pumping. However, accurate analyses on this aspect have not yet been performed. In this paper, the data measured from horizontal pipeline pumping tests for 350m and 548m in length was analyzed to identify the relationships of rheological properties of concrete and stroke time with the filling coefficient. In addition, an equation allowing prediction of the filling coefficient from rheological properties of concrete and stroke time has been suggested.

  • In this paper, the stability of the tunnel boring machine (TBM), used in tunnel excavation, according to the thrust force of the thrust jack was investigated. The existing hydraulic cylinder analysis method is fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis, where all of the flow setting and dynamic characteristics should be considered. Therefore, there is a need for a method to solve this problem simply and quickly. To facilitate this, the theoretical pressure in the hydraulic cylinder was calculated and compared with the analytical and experimental results. In the case of the analysis, the pressure generated inside the cylinder was analyzed statically, considering the operating characteristics of the shield TBM, and the stress and pressure were calculated. This method simplifies the analysis environment and shortens the analysis time compared to the existing analysis method. The obtained theoretical and analytical data were compared with the measured data during actual tunneling, and the analysis and experimental data showed a relative error of approximately 23.89%.

A Numerical Analysis: Effects of Hydraulic Characteristics of a Hazardous Zone on the Face Stability in Subsea Tunnelling (해저터널 시공중 문제구간의 수리적 특성이 막장의 안정성에 미치는 영향에 관한 수치해석적 연구)

  • Tunnelling under water table induces many geotechnical problems because of groundwater. In subsea tunneling, reduction of face stability can induce flooding in the vicinity of a fracture zone characterized by high permeability and high water pressure. In this study, the effects of high water pressure on the stability of a tunnel face in a limited zone with high permeability(hazardous zone) are analyzed. On the basis of the 'advance core' concept, the seepage force acting on a hypothetical cylinder ahead of a tunnel face is modeled. This study focuses on the hydraulic behavior of the ground ahead of the tunnel face by three-dimensional steady-state seepage analyses. The impact of the hazardous zone on the seepage force and stability of the tunnel face are simulated and analyzed. In light of the analysis results, it is estimated that the distance from the tunnel face to the exterior boundary limit, which the seepage force significantly affects the stability of the tunnel face, of a hypothetical cylinder is approximately 5 times the tunnel radii. Despite the restrictive assumptions of this study, the results are highly indicative regarding the risks of hazardous zones.

  • The purpose of this paper was to design an effective control system of 1-axis exciter for a seat vibration test of agricultural tractors using MATLAB simulation. The developed simulation model was composed with a hydraulic pump, a hydraulic servo valve, a hydraulic cylinder and load system. Also it was verified by comparing the simulation results with experimental results of actual control system in order to optimize the control performance. And in order to improve its control performance, the designed PID controller in this research was tuned using Ziegler-Nichols 2nd law and zero's moving method of PID controller's transfer function. As the result of these research, the developed position control system was able to control the system's position accurately within 5% errors.
