The Characteristics of Strength of Development and Hydration Heat on High Volume Fly-Ash Concrete (플라이애쉬 치환율이 높은 콘크리트의 강도 발현 및 수화열 특성)

  • In this study, the characteristics of strength development and hydration heat on high volume fly ash concrete(HVFAC) was experimentally investigated. Two levels of W/B were selected. Seven levels of fly ash replacement ratios and two levels of silica fume replacement ratios were adopted. In the concrete mix, the water content of $125kg/m^3$ was used, which is less than that of usual water content. As a result, it appeared that the compressive strength gradually decreased with increasing fly ash replacement ratio at the early age, but the difference of strength up to replacement ratio of 50% was little at the age of 91 days because of the pozzolanic reaction of fly ash. The effect of hydration heat reduction on the concrete was affected by the fly ash replacement ratio. When the replacement ratio was over 30%, the reduction efficiency of hydration heat was large.

  • This study, having combined and displaced fly ash known as admixture material that delays hydration reaction with coarse particle cement("CC" hereinafter) collected in particle classification method during ordinary portland cement("OPC" hereinafter), reviewed the hydration heat characteristics affecting the concrete. To reduce hydration heat, the study plain-mixed which used 100% OPC for WB 50% level 1, displaced CC at level 3 of 25%, 50% and 75% for OPC, and by displacing FA with admixture material at level 5 of 0%, 10%, 20%, 30% and 40%, experimented totally 16 batches. As a result of experiment, in the case of flow, the more CC displacement rate increased, the more it tended to decrease, and the more FA displacement rate increased, the more it decreased. As for simple adiabatic temperature rise by the CC and FA displacement rates, it decreased as displacement rate increased, and particularly in the case of FA40, temperature rise amount, $5.8{\sim}7.4^{\circ}C$, was very low. Compressive strength decreased in proportion to displacement rate, however strength reduction increment was shown to decrease with age progress.

Kinetic Studies on Hydration of Akibare and Milyang 23 Brown Rice (아끼바레와 밀양 23호 현미의 수화속도)

  • Kinetics of water diffusion during soaking of two brown rice varieties, Akibare (traditional rice) and Milyang 23 (high-yielding rice), were studied. Brown rice reached at the equilibrium moisture content after 18 hours. The absorption of liquid water by brown rice grain was directly proportional to the square root of hydration time and could be described by the simplified solution of Fick's diffusion equation. The diffusion coefficient was given by the Arrhenius relation: $D\;=\;2.738{\time}10^{-1}\;exp\;(-9,300/RT)$ for Akibare and $D\;=\;4.302{\time}10^{-1}\;exp\;(-9,500/RT)$ for Milyang 23. Hydration rate calculated from hardness change followed the equation of a first order reaction. Hydration mechanism of brown rice was changed at the gelatinization temperature of rice starch.

  • Acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of 3,3-bis(methylthio)-2-propen-1-phenyl-1-one derivatives were studied kinetically in concentrated aqueous hydroperchloric acid(-Ho < 2.23) at $30^{\circ}C.$ The substituent effect, analysis of hydrolysis product, hydration $parameter({\omega} & {\phi}$) from the Bunnett equation and the Bunnett-Olsen equation on the rate indicate that the acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of the substrates below 3.8 M hydroperchloric acid media occurs through A-1 type reaction($3.3 >{\omega},\;0.58 >{\phi} & {\rho}< 0$) mechanism and above 3.8 M hydroperchloric acid, the reaction proceeds A-2 type reaction($0 <(\omega)$, $0 <{\phi} & (\rho)> 0$) mechanism.

  • Compared to the development and manufacturing technology of electronic goods, the development of waste glass recycling technology is relatively insufficient, leading to the acceleration of waste of resources and environmental pollution. Although waste glass recycling technology is being actively developed overseas, waste glass recycling technology is insufficient in Korea, leading to the illegal dumping or burial of waste glass. Waste glass has been confirmed to have pozzolan reaction potential when having hydration reaction with cement. Waste glass is also reported to be effective in reducing bleeding and inhibiting the development of hydration heat by improving the physical properties of concrete and the rheology properties of fresh concrete. Therefore, this paper analyzed the strength characteristics and the effect of alkalic-silica reaction on the expansion of shielding concrete that used waste glass as fine aggregate. Where, suitable admixture materials were used as a measure to suppress the expansion.

  • This research has focused on identifying a significant cause of the pavement cracks and irregularities of roads in Changwon city which have been constructed using steel slag, an auxiliary-based material. It is important to note that the cracks and irregularities yield logistics inconvenience, the risk of traffic accidents, and increased road maintenance costs. X-ray diffraction analysis tests have been conducted in this study on the sample collected by pavement cutting and excavating the three target roads. It is well known that the primary cause of the expansion of steelmaking slag is the hydration reaction between CaO and MaO. While the reaction of CaO is completed within a few months, that of MgO is pretty slow depending on the firing temperature. The test results reveal that the MgO content of the testing samples is approximately 47% of the total average, and that of CaO is around 14% of the total average. Hence, these results make it possible to be understood that the expansion induced by the slow hydration reaction of MgO results in road uplift in the long term, resulting in the cracks and irregularities of roads.

High purity C3A synthesis method and effect of CaCO3 on C3A initial hydration reaction (고순도 C3A 합성 방법 및 CaCO3가 C3A 초기 수화 반응에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, various experimental parameters were investigated for high-purity C3A synthesis. As a results of experiment, it was verified that the calcined temperature was the most important parameter for the synthesis of high-purity C3A. In addition, more synthesis time was needed when large amount of C3A synthesis to achieve high-purity. Meanwhile, the C3A blended with CaCO3 showed different reaction products compared to normal cement because C15 and C30 had monocarbocaluminate as a reaction product at early stage of hydration. Furthermore, the production amount and formation rate of monocarboaluminate formation was different varying with the CaCO3 a mounts.

  • We developed a convenient synthetic route to 3-alkylated 2-phenyl-4-quinolone derivatives (4a-h and 5a-c), which were expected to retain antitumor activity. A series of 2,3-dihydro-2-hydroxy-2-phenyl-4-quinolones (3a-h) was synthesized through dehydration, dealcoholation and hydration using acid-catalyzed one-pot reaction from anilines and ethyl benzoylacetates. 3-Methyl (or 3,3-dimethyl)-2-phenyl-4-quinolone derivatives 4 and 5 were synthesized from 3a-h through the methylation using methyl iodide. Formation of quinolone nucleus was undertaken with p-toluenesulfonic acid (p-TSA) at $90{\sim}110^{\circ}C$ in toluene for 3${\sim}$7.5 hr over the Dean-Stark apparatus. The key intermediates in these preparations are ${\beta}$-ketoesters 2a-h, which can be readily obtained from the corresponding anilines 1a-e by reaction with ethyl bezoylacetates.

Kinetic Studies on the Reactions of NADH Analogs : Effects of 3-Substituents of 1-benzyl-1,4-Dihydropyridines

  • NADH analogs, 1-benzyl-3-substituted (X)-1,4-dihydropyridines 1-4 (1: X = $CONH_2$; 2: X = $CSNH_2$; 3: X = $COOCH_3$; 4: X = $COCH_3$) were synthesized. The second order rate constants for hydration reaction and oxidation reactions by $Cu^{2+}$, $Fe(CN)_6^{3-}$ or methylacridinium iodide (MAI) of the compounds were determined. For all reactions investigated, the rate constants increased with decreasing electronegative character of the 3-substituents of 1,4-dihydropyridines : the decreasing order of the reaction rates was 2>1>3>4. However, the sensitivity of the reaction rates on the 3-substituents differed among the reactions. This was explained in view of mechanisms of the reactions.

  • Concrete bricks and hollow concrete block products manufactured using ordinary portland cement react with salt and carbon dioxide absorbed from the soil and atmosphere in the use environment, causing contamination such as efflorescence. This is due to the reaction between calcium hydroxide, a cement hydration product, and carbon dioxide, producing and eluting calcium carbonate. This study was a preliminary study to compare and evaluate the reduction of efflorescence in concrete bricks and hollow concrete block products manufactured using carbon dioxide reaction hardening cement. The purpose was to evaluate the efflorescence occurrence in products using ordinary Portland cement.
