A Study on the Service Reliability and Power Quality Improvement Using Hybrid Type Capacitor Bank (하이브리드 타입 커패시터 뱅크를 이용한 공급신뢰도 및 전력품질 개선 방안 연구)

  • The objectives of power system operations are to preserve system stability and reliability as well as to supply proper electric power. For an activation of these objectives, voltage and reactive power should be considered. There are a number of types about reactive power sources, and an insertion of shunt capacitor banks are one of the method to support bus voltage adjacent. This paper includes the design procedure to determine the hybrid type capacitor bank configurations on power system to improve stability and reliability. This procedure includes the capacitor bank capacity calculation, reactor type selection, and reactor capacity calculation. The total capacity calculation of capacitor bank is based on the reactive power margin which is calculated through system studies such as, contingency analysis and Q-V analysis. In the second step, the reactor type and its capacity can be determined through the harmonic analysis. This paper shows that the harmonics are decreased by the proposed hybrid type capacitor bank, especially 5th and 7th harmonics.

  • By the enormous increase in mobile nodes and diverse service requests on wireless networks, wireless mesh network(WMN) takes an interest as the solution for such requests. However, lots of issues which should be solved to deploy WMN are still remained. In the network layer, the performance improvement of routing protocols is the major issue of nowadays researches. WMN can be easily deployed by use of protocols for mobile ad-hoc networks(MANET) because it is much similar with MANET in multi-hop wireless routing and which node plays as host and router concurrently. Unfortunately, most routing protocols for MANET have drawbacks such as large traffic overhead and long delay time for route discovery due to the network extension. They are major factors of performance degradation of WMN and most researches are focused on them. In this paper, domain-based AODV which is amended AODV to be applied in hybrid WMN is proposed. The proposed scheme divides a hybrid WMN as several domains and performs route discovery by header layer domain. Therefore it can reduce the distance for route discovery as much as average hop count between domain header and member nodes. From the simulation, domain-based AODV was showed slowly increasing delay time due to the network extension.

Semantic Cloud Resource Recommendation Using Cluster Analysis in Hybrid Cloud Computing Environment (군집분석을 이용한 하이브리드 클라우드 컴퓨팅 환경에서의 시맨틱 클라우드 자원 추천 서비스 기법)

  • Scientists gain benefits from on-demand scalable resource provisioning, and various computing environments by using cloud computing resources for their applications. However, many cloud computing service providers offer their cloud resources according to their own policies. The descriptions of resource specification are diverse among vendors. Subsequently, it becomes difficult to find suitable cloud resources according to the characteristics of an application. Due to limited understanding of resource availability, scientists tend to choose resources used in previous experiments or over-performed resources without considering the characteristics of their applications. The need for standardized notations on diverse cloud resources without the constraints of complicated specification given by providers leads to active studies on intercloud to support interoperability in hybrid cloud environments. However, projects related to intercloud studies are limited as they are short of expertise in application characteristics. We define an intercloud resource classification and propose semantic resource recommendation based on statistical analysis to provide semantic cloud resource services for an application in hybrid cloud computing environments. The scheme proves benefits on resource availability and cost-efficiency with choosing semantically similar cloud resources using cluster analysis while considering application characteristics.

A Scheduling Algorithm for Real-Time Traffic in IEEE802.11e HCCA (IEEE 802.11e HCCA 기반의 실시간 트래픽을 위한 스케줄링 알고리즘)

  • In this paper we propose a scheduling algorithm for supporting Quality of Service(QoS) in IEEE 802.11e HCCA referred to as ASR-DRR and ASD-DRR, which aims at providing improved performance for the support of multimedia traffic. Although We identify the problem of the current IEEE 802.11e HCCA (Hybrid Coordination Function Controlled Channel Access) scheduler and its numerous variations, that the queue information cannot be notified to the Hybrid Coordinator (HC) timely, therefore the uplink delay lengthens unnecessarily. We suggests a simple solution and a couple of implementation practices, namely the Adaptive Scheduler with RTS/CTS (ASR) and Adaptive Scheduler with Data/Ack (ASD). They are both further elaborated to emulate the Deficit Round Robin (DRR) scheduler. They are also compared with existing exemplary schedulers through simulation, and shown to perform well.

Development Possibility of Busan as a Cruise Center (부산의 크루즈 중심지로 발전 가능성에 대한 연구)

  • Asia's cruise industry is growing rapidly with the number of tourists increasing every year. This growth has encouraged intense competition among leading port cities in Asia to retain cruise tourists and cruise lines. The purpose of this study is to analyze the development of the cruise industry around Busan as a hybrid port city and propose new strategies for improving Busan's competitiveness. To achieve these goals, factor analysis and Importance-performance analysis (IPA) are used. The analyses results suggest that the development possibility of Busan as a cruise center is dependent on the improvement of certain factors, including the variety of inland tour options, unique experience, direct service infrastructure, tourist attractions, wide accessibility to other modes, and strong connection to attraction. In addition, the city needs to meet other requirements, including developing various tours, tourist products, and fly & cruise packages and hosting international festivals that can represent Busan and cater to potential cruise customers. Moreover, the city desperately needs to expand its commercial and cultural space by redeveloping its cruise terminals.

Stabilization of ship's heading in AIS of fishing vessel by a hybrid GPS/EM compass (어선 AIS에서의 하이브리드 GPS/EM 컴퍼스에 의한 선수방위 안정화)

  • The ship's heading information of hybrid GPS/EM compass were applied to the AIS of fishing vessel and examined the possibility of accuracy improvement. It is observed 453 each in AIS receiver of land among 3,982 each in AIS Rx/Tx transponder of the test ship at sea, and transmission interval according to the speed of ship is determined the 11.4% good transmitting data of the all information. In results, maximum compass error for the ship's heading of an EM compass was $19.1^{\circ}$. The variance of ship's heading owing to the speed of ship is surveyed. The COG (Course Over Ground) was changed extremely in $180^{\circ}W-179^{\circ}E$ range under 4.9knots, and in $24^{\circ}W-23^{\circ}E$ range over 4.9knots. Finally, using the ship's heading of EM compass and the COG from GPS for the autopilot system of a small fishing boat and the ship's heading information of AIS results in danger on the own ship's navigation safety and leads to make confusion both the others and VTS (Vessel Traffic Service) center. Therefore, the hybrid GPS/EM compass is identified as the best system for a small fishing boat and is allowed to offer continuously a ship's heading information with high accuracy and stability.

A Cylindrical Hybrid Antenna for Shaping Complex Beam Patterns (복합 빔 패턴 형성을 위한 원통형 하이브리드 안테나)

  • In this paper, a cylindrical hybrid antenna which is spatially fed by an off-set linear feed array is described to form complex beam patterns. The linear feed array consists of twelve micro-strip patch elements and forms a flat-topped beam pattern with a beam-width of $90^{\circ}$ in the horizontal plane. The vertical curve on the cylindrical reflector with the linear feed array is shaped in order to form a cosecant beam pattern within the range of $-5^{\circ}$ to $-25^{\circ}$ in the vertical plane. To form complex beam patterns, the hybrid antenna with cylindrical reflector aperture of $140{\times}50\;cm$ was designed and fabricated to be operated within the IMT 2000 service band, and also electrical performances of the antenna were measured and analyzed.

  • By recent development of wired and wireless communication technology, any service can be delivered through broadcasting networks or communication networks. So contents consumers want to receive broadcasting program via any accessible network. Network independent broadcasting system can receive optimized multimedia contents by combining the high-quality multimedia contents transmitted through broadcasting network and the additional contents delivered through communication network. Additional contents can be other multimedia contents, URL of contents, some texts for indicating information of received multimedia, etc. Network independent broadcasting system is in early stage of development, and receivers and the monitoring system for hybrid broadcast are under development. Thus the multiplexing method and demultiplexing method to perform hybrid broadcasting is on study. In this paper, we designed the demultiplexing algorithm to perform hybrid broadcasting system and implemented demultiplexer system based on modulator interface system standard T2-MI of DVB-T2.

Hybrid Algorithmic Framework Using IMU and WPS for Smart Phone Positioning Systems (스마트폰 IMU와 WPS를 결합한 복합 측위 방법론)

  • The drastic growth of mobile communication and spreading of smart phone make the significant attention on Location Based Service. The one of most important things for vitalization of LBS is the accurate estimating position for mobile object. Focusing on IMU deployed in smart phone, we develop a hybrid positioning estimation framework with a combination of WPS. The developed approaches can strengthen the advantages of independent indoor applicability of IMU. The estimation of IMU is efficiently compensated by radio fingerprint based Wi-Fi Positioning System. We put a focus especially on the hybrid algorithmic framework. Compared on the existing approaches of WPS or IMU, we achieve the comparable higher performance on both of average error of estimation and deviation of errors. Furthermore test-bed based on smart phone platform is practically developed and all data have been harvested from the actual measurement of test indoor area. This can approve the practical usefulness of proposed framework.

A Study on Hybrid Recommendation System Based on Usage frequency for Multimedia Contents (멀티미디어 콘텐츠를 위한 이용빈도 기반 하이브리드 추천시스템에 관한 연구)

  • Recent advancements in information technology and the Internet have caused an explosive increase in the information available and the means to distribute it. However, such information overflow has made the efficient and accurate search of information a difficulty for most users. To solve this problem, an information retrieval and filtering system was developed as an important tool for users. Libraries and information centers have been in the forefront to provide customized services to satisfy the user's information needs under the changing information environment of today. The aim of this study is to propose an efficient information service for libraries and information centers to provide a personalized recommendation system to the user. The proposed method overcomes the weaknesses of existing systems, by providing a personalized hybrid recommendation method for multimedia contents that works in a large-scaled data and user environment. The system based on the proposed hybrid method uses an effective framework to combine Association Rule with Collaborative Filtering Method.
